Next, to keep channel clear. Get forty feet of six inch perforated Corrigated flexible drainage pipe. Place 2/3 of pipe upstream and 1/3 down stream of the dam inside the area that was excavated. Clamp down the upstream portion into the lake (stream) bed.
Thats a nice size beaver dam you tore out but in my opinion the excavator needs to clear out the backside of the dam better before opening it up so most of the sticks and debris don't get washed down the ditch/creek and create problems later on, like when you do it by hand you start on the backside then use the potato rake to start the main water flow, that how we did it when possible and it got most of the debris out of the way of the water flow. Anyway it's always fun to watch you tear these dams out.
Hello. In my opinion, I will never manually remove the dam as thoroughly as an excavator will. It should also be noted that the current of flowing water washes the bottom of the stream just before the dam. Therefore, you should not deepen this place too much with an excavator. But every dam is different, depending on the terrain and the amount of flowing water. Sometimes it is actually the case that with a small amount of water there is a lot of silt in front of the dam, but all this is best seen when you are there 🙂
@@msTECH86 the dams you deal with are definitely bigger then what I used to clear, the dams I cleared where on streams connecting different size lakes, at times if we could get a smaller excavator in the operator would clear the silt and vegetation in front then clear the backside up to the point of the dam collapsing then do the main cleanup, just a good way to get most of the dam onto the side of the banks, the dams I cleared with a potato rake were usually only around 2 meters wide and a meter or so tall, we are also allowed to trap and remove nuisance beaver. Again I enjoy watching your videos because it's something i can no longer do due to my health.

How do beaver dams help the environment? Environmental Benefits of Beavers - King County Beaver dams are like speed bumps in the streams and help slow down the water as it moves through a system. Slower water means less erosion and in some cases less flooding from storms. Ponds also absorb some of the water even if they already appear full, so the volume of water also decreases through a beaver system.A
These ditches and canals were dug in places where there was too much water. If local farmers thought there was not enough water, they could raise the water level with weirs.
So, in situations like this, where vast amounts of water are drained out, are the beavers killed or relocated? Seems like it would be a waste of effort, if they just build back up, lol.

There's a fair bit of study saying beavers and their dams support better biodiversity and make better habitat for wild animals. Just saying.
That can't be true! Break the dams and shoot the beavers!
I guess we'll just forget about all the biodiversity downstream that the beavers kill off by blocking the water supply.
Tell that to someone who owns timber or farm land.
No one likes an angry beaver
True, yet there is a balance. To many beaver dams can kill a forest and farmland with the same water.
I have breached many a dam i dont understand your theory. why no breach it as far away as you can as the water level drops use the closest material to you and build support for the machine. that way it is then possible to remove all the dam dam from 1 side.??????

beavers are good for nature.. it’s mankind that moves in and thinks they own their land.. leave the beaver alone or build them a pond
Number 61 is a little work horse.
If beavers build dams from branches and stick why leave them so near to the site of removal?
There could have been many more sticks taken out of the stream before the dam was removed.
Can we lend support for the cost of those sandwiches ?
Why is it that man thinks he's better at nature than mother nature herself?
