  • Beijing's former bomb shelters are now home to a million or more young migrants seeking to save rent as they forge a new life in the Chinese capital. In this intimate video portrait, co-published with Al Jazeera America, a 21-year-old Mongolian street peddler shows off his underground apartment and shares his dreams of making it big as an actor in Beijing.

As newer generations come, the need for physical traits like big forearms, strong midsection etc. is reduced and instead we are more adaptable mentally.

When you’ll see in some bedspace it will til 3 deck not a double deck and for the others partition only bed a single door cabinet can fit in. At least they can roll freely 😅.Partition cost $275 in a month or more than $300 in a month for single person

Dear Sam, Tell your father that an American lady wrote to you to say that her daughter moved out of her great big house in California to live with a roommate. She lives upstairs and she is always too hot or too cold. But she does not want to come home and work near me. We get along very well but she likes being independent. I guess our children are the same everywhere.❤

I hope this guy achieves his dream. No matter the nation, city, or system outside of Scandinavia and Western Europe, seems like hardknocks rough life just trying to have a meaningful life. Humans and humans on this planet are cruel, in spite that even when it comes down to it, human ingenuity would provide a decent minimum quality of life for everyone--truly possible, but instead we allow or shrug at legitimizing inequality and life sufferings.

This man is so naive... Accept your father's help, policeman is not that bad a profession. Don't struggle so much, use every advantage you can get. You want to make it as an actor, the thing is it is very hard to make it in that career. I like the fact that he is trying to be independent but he is an only child, his family can help, he should accept it and make things easier for him. His stubbornness will cost him years off his young life when he could have a better start in his adult life. I know most of you will not agree with me but I know life is harsh and unforgiving and mistakes that he makes now will only pull him down later. Imagine he will not succeed in fulfilling his dream, he will not go back to his father without a sense of shame which will only make things harder for him. That being said, Know that I am rooting for him as I was once him.

Depends how you see life. Some hold the perspective that it's not about what you have, but what you become. This young man will have solid character, and of he can continue, he will be a strong friend, son and father. Character is forged via suffering.

There is overpopulation and overcrowding. Most of the people who live below the ground are migrant workers who can't afford to live up top because it's so expensive or because they send a portion of their earnings back to their families in the countryside. Sometimes it's a combination of both. CNN did a story on them (it's short, there's not a lot of info out there on the "Rat Tribe"): www.cnn.com/2015/02/17/asia/china-beijing-rat-tribe/index.html

One thing I don’t understand is why don’t they buy a gallon of paint and paint the walls? It would make the space look cleaner and bigger actually. Paint isn’t very expensive either. Anytime I’ve gotten a house and something looks ugly or old I simply paint it or fix it for a few dollars and it makes the space feel a hundred times better.
