Thanks so much for watching UBT FAM!! Let's get better today. If you haven't yet, be sure to watch our free training here: ultimatebaseballtraining.com/hitting-on-demand/
Thank you so much, I’m on a high level team and started out hot in the beginning of the season then I started to have issues with timing and I was late on everything. I’ve watched this video and I have been raking.
A question more specific to young (9-12U, 50-60 MPH pitches) - if you mirror the pitcher so that when the pitcher strides the leg and lands the front foot, and the batter lands the foot about same time, then batter will be waiting (with the foot down) for the pitchers' arm to come around and throw and then the ball to travel. Wouldn't the batter be waiting at static position too long? What is the ideal time that the batter's front foot land (as the ball is leaving the pitchers hand? 1/2 (or 1/4) of the way to the plate?
This video was perfect timing! Just heading to the cages with my son to work on timing. Moving from coach pitch to kid pitch 9U takes some work on timing.
Thanks Coach, I am finally going to get to play baseball on a team again here in Japan of all places after a extremely long layoff. I need to REALLY focus on my timing. Thank you for the tips. I am going to just binge watch your videos. I need every advice I can get .
This method would have my son a little out in front in 12u travel ball. Normally, starting the load around the time his arm comes up to throw would have him on time more often than not. Thanks for the vid coach
thanks coach i’m just getting back into playing after about 10+ years and ur videos been reminding me of all the little things i forgot about. technique technique technique
Same bro. Just joined an adult baseball league. Haven't pitched in 10 years. I only lasted an inning, walked 5 batters, felt super stiff, and I rushed everything. Was so nervous, I didn't keep base runners in check. I had fun though. Just gotta get back to the basics and it will come back!
Hi Justin, thanks a lot for your very helpful videos. Since I follow you, I'll be became a much better player. Iam from Germany and the pitchers in our league are often very slow, the fastballs are around 70-80mph. What would you doing here? I just start my stride often, when the pitcher releases the ball, because I have much time, but Iam still early on swing.
Thanks for all the videos Coach J. I played catcher all my career and also a utility player so I understand every aspect of the game and coaching comes very easily to me, but as for being a coach for 9U boys your videos help me with being able to put into words they can understand when I explain things to them
I’ve had success getting my hitters to think of it as losing slowly into a coil. You can start when the pitcher does just don’t take that momentum forward too early. When they bring the leg up and begin to move towards the mound then slowly begin your coil and then unload.
Hey great tips!! Even for players like Mike Trout or Matt Olson those strong guys if they don’t get the timing right they won’t hit the ball far. So this really helped, have a game on Sunday, thank you!
Hello! Thanks again! I’m usually really early and hit it on the end of the bat the ball’s a lot of times fair and far but not as good as it can be like if it were on the meat of the bat so thank you for this! ⚾️⚡️
Coach Justin thank you for teaching me the easy way to get on-time more often now I won't be able to miss the ball very often, I'll be like one of the greatest hitters in history
Here's another tip as to where the location of the pitch will be- watch the pitchers release point, his forearm/ hand position or arm slot just prior to releasing the ball. The batter can get a real good idea that given where that position is, you can determine and be ready for a strike or ball actually "prior to" him the releasing the ball to the catcher.
Do you think batters should change their position in the box depending on the pitchers velocity? I've had coaches tell me things that seem counterintuitive, like stand further forward to faster pitchers. Thoughts?
Nick Gibson, Listening to some major leaguer hitting coaches, a hitter should always stand in the same place in the batter box. This allow for the hitters to always see the same breaking point of different pitches over the plate. It make sense to me.
I tried this, this last weekend without watching this video. I was way ahead. Depending on the load usually on the peek of the knee or as soon as the hands break works best !!
Hey I just wanted to say these videos help me a lot and that in my game today I made a lot of good plays and hit a dinger and timing helped a lot thanks!😄👍
I had a question on hitting I’ve been with 2 trainers and my old one use to tell me when I swing to to try to get on top of the ball kinda like your chopping a tree but now with my new one he tells me to get more under it and have more of a golf swing I just feel like the golf swing will screw up my whole stance and stride but is the lower golf swing the correct way to swing
Personally as a right handed pitcher I don’t do my motion back I just bring my knee up fast and keep that fast pace so I get a good nice hard throw right we’re I want it to, I’m only 13 and I throw my 2 and 4 seam so hard I already get movement on my fastballs
I totally agree with timing is everything, a lot of the concepts with Dancing with the pitcher mirroring the pitcher all of that is correct and I completely agree. I just never heard you touch on the point where the batter stands in the box as this is too part of the timing. With faster or slower or junk ball pitchers standing in the Box and the front middle or back is very important very crucial part of hitting. Also, I'm definitely not trying to down your video as I subscribe and watch them. Just some positive/constructive criticism.
All little league coaches should watch your videos and show there players where to find your videos for themselves. You do an excellent job please keep it going
I have been in baseball for 45 yrs ... The logic he is sharing is flawed. Timing is Tracking, The visual breakdown of what the ball is doing is key. So being able to time a fastball or a changeup is a false statement. Younger Coaches seem to over simplyfy or over complicate.... The issue with timing is not really timing ... Its visual , Its a visual key of where to swing which determines when you swing. Inside pitches you go quicker. Hitters with the best Hand Eye Coordination also have the best "timing" because they see what the ball is doing and then they can get their hands to the right contact point .... Fact is while you might be Mike Trout, try to show some humility there Mr. 3000 !!!!! Some folks are coming up learning the game AND at 9 years old I've trained my son to a 50 mph fastball and that's without using a 2-4 seam throw. But yes, we are now working on improving the hitting game now. So no, I'm be far no couch potato .... LOL
@@thomasthorne4010 gimme a break. You were trolling me thinking that I wasn't a player. Want to make your kid a better player? Don't listen to most of the instructional videos online. They're garbage. You only learn by trial and error and lots of functional practice. Give your kid plenty of BP off live or almost live pitching. Have him hit mostly pitches on the outer half of the plate because that's what he'll see in the game. If you just groove fat pitches in for him to crush, he won't get any better.
And then dancing with the pitcher can only do so much when a pitcher throws u off and doesn’t even raise he’s foot up to pitch man baseball such a hard game 😭
I appreciate the effort with the secondary camera, however it's very low quality, or cropped in too much, taking away from the experience of the actual video. I would ditch it - or find alternative. 👍
this is not good, or right...if you're matching your load/unload timing with the actions of the pitcher you just as well get your cell phone out and watch a video...you don't make your commitment to a pitch until the pitch is located in path, the rotation is observed and the arrival is deciphered from there...that will tell you where and when to move the dynamics of your body and bat...sorry to see such a dilutionary video on the ''art'' of hitting....

Good stuff buddy!
This is one of the hardest parts of baseball, no matter how great your power and swing is it all starts with timing. Nice video
Agreed! Everything starts with timing. Thanks for tuning in and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Coach you should do a video on how to throw the ball straight to another fielder and reduce throwing errors!!

Well said mate, thanks for the video!
Do you have any tips on how to stop looking at strikes and hitting outside pitches
#1 rule in baseball is anticipate strikes. So if your anticipating strikes its impossible to look at them cause you will be crushing them instead
