  • Finally after 11 months of ups and downs, and 1.8T awp is done the correct way .. hope you find this swap educational.. stay tuned for my 1983 Volkswagen, GTI VR6 2.8 swap next we are getting it done .

    currently 1.8 swapping my '84 Rabbit, really concerned with the manual tensioner from s&p, you had any further issues with the new one? Is there a washer between the engine block and the 8mm spacer? I think im missing some hardware.

      Hello, I did have a issues with S&P tensioner so I ordered one from eurowise or another company I don’t remember, but I did blow my head on the engine with the S&P tensioner and thank god I had another head . There is a spacer you need to keep the timing belt straight. If you did not get that from S&P email him and tell him . You need that or you will see your belt get chewed up. If you see that then the tensioner is installed wrong and get a new belt.

I also bought the swap kit from s&p but was really unhappy with the manual tensioner included after seeing the hardware. considering purchasing the manual tensioner kit from Integrated Engineering, but the S&P engine mount will interfere with the smaller roller mount. Hard to justify buying a tensioner and spacer for $200 but damn I do not want timing issues.
      LPS probably has the best solution, but again, would interfere with the S&P Engine Mount.
      If i can find the higher quality spacer and a higher quality tensioner that would be ideal. I'll make a post if I find one.

      So on the TDC shop United ECU it’s making 180HP but on my madness tune she making 230HP easy 1 2 3 gear are insane and turbo makes more boost at low rpm ..
