I just bought a 1993 Cabriolet to fill the empty hole in my heart left when I sold my 1986 GTI 30 years ago. These cars are not just means of transportation...They are time machines that take you back! Great Video!

You nailed it! I wasn't into cars but pulled the trigger on a 92 cabby that according to the seller "just needed a tune up", yeah right, but honestly I couldn't be happier learning how to fix it and driving it.

Good review. There’s a ‘90 model sitting in a car lot down the road from me and it’s calling my name. $2500 is very high but it’s had some mods done so I’m checking it out next week.

Those Cars when in good condition actually have very good brake power(specially with 15" and good tyres) even for today standards, check motor week test and compare values with new cars, I know from my own experience.
The thing is that those Cars are old and most of them no longer represent what they used to be when new.
My opinion, I do not agree with some points on the video, because you are probably based the opinion in that car only, but I loved your vídeo, keep on the excellent work. Sadly we live very far away, otherwise I'll be happy to invite you to test my 91 cabriolet rivage spec, I use it like you do, full send it, but its in a very good condition.

That car sounds lovely! I'm always happy when I hear about more of these being kept on the road.
And I agree, I feel a little bad about how I portrayed this car as the next owner figured out its fuel pressure regulator was bad and it was holding back quite a bit of power.
I do however miss the car dearly aha They're so much fun and I really enjoyed every time I got to drive it so I am looking for another one! We've since picked up a 1995 Cabrio that we're going to drive for a while, but I don't feel it has quite the same special feeling that this Cabriolet had.
Once I find a Yellow or a white Clipper Cabriolet in good running nick, I might make a follow-up video aha
Either way, thanks for the comment and watching! Happy cruising in your VW!

You can easily get these to handle better than the GTI. Stock they are fine as well as long as the components are in good working order. My 91 will have better springs and sway bars installed and good brakes. I will lower it a bit to drop the center of gravity. One need not have a wobble mobile.

    • @200degrees

I like it! I liked how it was, there's something fun about how it always felt like I could drive it on the limit, but if I was building one (Jason Camissa has a really nice one with a 16v swap and upgraded suspension that I'd model after) I certainly think I'd go cabbie before a hard top, just because it's more versatile and can handle the same.
      Cheers!

I snatched up a clean 2000 Cabrio. The Cabriolets were a Shit Show. Even nicer ones needed work. The Cabrios held up better. Found a GL to to avoid power tops or windows. Has some nice features like a power deck lid I use constantly and door locks, alarm. Top like new. Super stoked.

@@200degrees Cabrio is too rounded - I like the squared lines of the CAbriolet - bought a graphite '87 Wolfsburg Cabriolet off the dealer showroom floor in 87, sold it in 2000, regretted it, and in 2003 bought a red '92 Cab.

My heart tells me I want the 88 with its iconic style, loveable chracter and heritage. Logic tells me the 95 drives with more refinement and acts more like a useable daily car, somewhere inbetween I'll have to decide which one to keep!

    • @200degrees
      @200degrees  3 ปีที่แล้ว

That's fair, for the early 90's it wasn't bad, not the fastest by small car standards, but not the slowest by far. But for driving around now I found it was a workout for the car to keep up with the traffic I encounter daily. This isn't a bad thing because I find it very entertaining to be able to use all the power all the time, and I actually started taking the cabbie more than my motorcycle because it's more fun to be the slow car on the road than the fast one in traffic, but I think that's where I came to call it slow. 30 years on speed has moved away from it.
