- This week saw every day's training being disrupted due to a heavy dumping of snow and its aftermath.
This presented a series of challenges to which we found solutions so our training could go (nearly) to plan
FairPlay getting all the runs done despite this weather! I usually try to avoid the treadmill but was forced to give it a go recently and actually quite liked it. It’s good to be able to control the pace and intensity so neatly and easily 👍🏻
Yes it is good for that OCD x of this and y of that. I wouldn't do more than 10% of volume on it though unless forced to.
Proper running weather! Well done both on still getting it done in spite of the conditions. Really good to see your S&C John. Like you I've felt much springier by doing more of it 🙌
It's a revelation the jump box.
Well done to you both.
Really positive week. Terrible conditions but the show goes on.
Thank you. Yes especially so early on in training. Didn't want to become derailed early.
Good to see your community of runners there. I bet the head clearance on your treadmill setup might not work for me :) Weather down south not quite as cold and no snow but had to be careful for some icy patches. Now got manflu again!
Hope you feel better soon Tim. I had flu for around 10 days and only just getting over it. Managed a short run today of around 3 miles/5K but felt hard work and heart rate well above normal at quite a slow pace.
@@geoffclarke3796 sorry to hear you have been poorly as well. I was out for about 2 weeks after the "battle" of Battersea Park with John but never really felt completely A1 since and now back to square one and will have to have at least this week off.
Haha yes we'd have to punch a hole in the ceiling. These viruses can take weeks to shift.
8 days of training in a row on the indoor fitness bike with no running at all - - Back out at last this morning with a very steady 5kms - Its good to be back !!!
Yes we missed it
Wow looks like you guys had it bad up north. We had one light snow shower in the London suburb where I live one evening but all gone the next day. Good luck with the marathon training. I've just started after 10 days out with flu.
Hope you pick it back up soon.
Yea it’s been a bad week well done both of you on keeping on 👊 Hate the dreadmill myself so had to make do with quite a bit of walking. I’m sure I can class it as zone 1 training 😜 Looking for the positives should have fresh legs for the Brass Monkey this weekend 🥶 💨
Good luck with that. We were going to do it but had missed training with illness and weather so sold the numbers on.
Great training both, the weather looks amazing there ⛷⛷
It was amazing for a day or two...😅
An excellent week considering the conditions, and your dedication knows no bounds 💪 it does look beautiful but dun arf make things difficult !! John, can I ask what u do for a living? I would love to hear you say you’re a History Teacher / Lecturer, but it doesn’t sound like you are - your knowledge is really quite amazing I love listening to your random history bits n bobs !!
Ah yes I was a History teacher for several years. Thank you for your support. History has always been my passion from a young age.
Impressive effort getting all the training done! 💪🏻
Thank you
I just decided to get injured, so that's confined me to single mile treadmill runs 😂!
Also, you went to school in that? It was touch and go down south... The frost was quite severe 😉
I shuffle daily? Oh yes everyone must be present no matter what.
Fantastic efforts. Fair play to you both. The snow and ice have decimated most people’s running plans.
I did marathon distance on treadmill. It’s just not the same as outdoor running but did the job i guess.
Blimey that took some doing. Is that your first treadmill marathon?
It's a good job you have that decent treadmill. Do you own any trail shoes, John? 😅
I think I do from years ago. But a bit like asking Lionel Messi if he has a cricket bat 🏏
Very challenging but it will make us stronger 😂
The winter ditty! 😅
Beautiful, but dangerous ❄️
Definitely!
I picked up a pair of Tomir 1's from Nnormal for £87 quid (I figured at that discount even my local shoe store would understand) for the shushy stuff (vibram light is quite good for everything but black ice )
Thanks for the tip. 🙂
I use Kahtoola nano spikes in icy conditions. Road shoes a no no 😀
Thanks, we've not heard of them but will check them out. 👍
What does not kill you, will only make you stronger. Are there any indoor tracks in UK? would be a bit better than treadmill. I'm running in 35c in OZ can't wait for our winter.
There is one, but it's a 2 hour round trip from us and costs quite a bit to use, plus it's only 200m. That would be a lot of laps...Treadmill it is...🙂
Well done you two, very challenging period, just starting to ramp my training up again after weather and lurgy, have a half next month so some catching up, as a matter of interest, thinking of getting a dreadmill, don’t really like them but could be useful in bad weather or when time is limited, what model do you have and is it any good
Thank you. It's the Noble Pro Elite i and it is very good. We've had it a few years and you can link with Zwift.
Just a little tip, don't use running shoes for gym sessions, especially if they have plates in them.
Low stack , non plated shoes are best.
Yes, I do know that, but sometimes forget to take low-profile ones with me when going from work. I did contemplate taking shoes off completely but then just got on with it in them. 🙂
Thanks for the video. What’s your view on training for a marathon entirely using a treadmill?
I wouldn't recommend it for a road marathon as your legs wouldn't be resilient to the tarmac pounding. The treadmill has its place but as part of a mix.
Kudos for achieving so much in those conditions. I chickened out, donned walking boots and went hiking every day instead. It was magnificent albeit less productive. 🏔
We also love a good hike! 👍
