    Another great lesson,
    I want to ask if it is OK to say something like : 'saya nak roti kosong'
    In English we would usually say "Can I have a roti"
    If we said "I want a roti" it would be considered quite rude.
    Once again, thank you, you have got a hardcore following of students so please keep posting...

      Hello Michael, it's a good question. I think I will make my next lesson about asking for something politely.
      To sound more polite, you can replace 'Saya nak' with 'Tolong bagi roti kosong'.
      Tolong = Please/Help and Bagi = Give
      While Malay culture does place heavy emphasis on politeness, if you say 'Saya nak' in the right tone, it can come across as polite.
      I'll elaborate in Lesson 43 on Tuesday :D
      Thanks for the question! And thank you for watching :D

    Hi Ms. Sierra! can we use "nak" "hendak" and "mahu" interchangeably?

    • @sierralisse8897
      @sierralisse8897  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      rea alcantara Hello! Yes, you can :D Although 'nak' is the most used word. 'Mahu' is used only occasionally and when Malay people use it, it sounds like 'Mau'. Just get rid of the 'h'. If you say 'Mahu', it sounds quite formal, like 'Hendak'.
