Alan Young, the voice of Scrooge McDuck in the 87 series, came from England. His parents were Scottish, which means that technically, he is a Scottish actor playing Scrooge McDuck. Tennant was born and raised in Scotland, and I do not dispute his accomplishments, especially as Scrooge McDuck. (Also, in a convention stage reading of the script for McMystery in McDuck Manor, Tennant reads the lines of both Scrooge and Flintheart Glomgold, marking the first time that a true Scotsman played both roles. It is glorious!)
Although I strongly suspect, in a bit of possible irony, that Keith Ferguson might have some Scottish blood going back a couple hundred years. I mean come on, his last name is *Ferguson* after all… Might be wrong but it would be funny if true; especially as unlike the 1987 series, they adapted Glomgold’s Afrikaner heritage as opposed to his being a Scotsman.
Ducktales 2017 is just a massive accomplishment, honoring every source relating to the characters and serving as a celebration of the Disney Afternoon.
A fantasies show that not only (slightly) works better than the original series but also builds upon the multiple series from the Disney Afternoon line, and i love it!
You know when you feel like "this was made for me"? DuckTales 2017 is that for yours truly. I grew up with the original show and the Disney Afternoon, and, being a swede where Carl Barks and his successor Don Rosa are a huge deal (Carl Barks even has a street named after him here), I grew up reading and loving the comics, which are still some of my favourites. So a series that not only pays tribute to the Duck-Universe AND the Disney Afternoon, but expands upon it, adds depth and so much fun it's just gold for me. And of course, it feels so great to see one of my all-time favourite characters, who I've known from the comics is, despite his bad luck and short temper, a badass fighter with a big heart and love for his near and dear ones, finally given the respect and treatment he deserves. These Ducks Don't Back Down. And that's why I love'em.
10:14 As a Puerto Rican myself, I know what you mean. Also, Webby has come full circle as her original design was based on April, May, and June Daisy's nieces. In fact, Bradford call Webby "April" in the finale. Also check out "The Legend of the Three Caballeros" to see the only time the nieces had a major role.
This show had a lot of great achievements throughout its 3 seasons but I’ll always say it’s most glorious was finally bringing Della duck to life as a flesh and blood character and paget brewster was absolutely amazing and to this day I can’t listen to the moon theme from the ducktales video game without adding the lyrics to Della’s lullaby and I know I’m not alone
Why is original Scrooge hard to watch? It’s a parody of the 1%. If anything, the satire is now more relevant than ever. That said, I didn’t mind his change in character. This whole reboot indeed wrote the book on how to do a reboot right!
Yea. That bugged me when he said that. Like, I learned about money and economy just from watching the OG. Plus it took place in late 80s "Greed is Good" and all that which made it even funnier to me
I hope that if there's another attempt at DuckTales, we'll get a better take on the Triplets and a guest appearance by Mickey Mouse. He's long overdue to appear in the DuckTales universe.
You Only Crash Twice originally aired on the April 2020 weekend No Time To Die was set to release…had we not been in the early days of the COVID pandemic
Is it fair to say that David Tennant is the first legitimate Scottish person to play Scrooge? Alan Young was born in England, but he spent part of his childhood in Scotland, and his parents were Scottish. I would say he's of mixed nationality, but you can't really deny his Scottishness.
That said, when they gave Don the limelight he was absolutely fantastically portrayed. I mean, I would have preferred that Tony Anselmo also provide the “normal” voice for Donald the couple of times it had; much as I love Don Cheadle, it felt like pointless stunt casting. But that’s literally my only gripe with that aspect of the show; everything else is down in the, “We needed a Season 4”, part of the criticism. Then again, I firmly believe that Gravity Falls should have been given 3 more episodes in its final season so what do I know about development of a show?
One thing I really want to congratulate this show for is the character Faris Djinn. He’s not a main character but I love him, and as an Arab American it’s so refreshing to see an Arab who’s a good guy
I freely admit I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about this reboot, but the first trailer gave me hope, and when I heard David Tennant was going to be Scrooge, I knew I had to check it out. And I was not disappointed! I love this show from start to finish!
I really like the Ducktales reboot. Just as much as the classic series. My favorite reboot character was definately Webby Vanderquack. I wish she and/or her friends Lena and Violet would have a spinoff of their own.
This is one of those shows that, in terms of being compelling and entertaining, never lost steam. The only thing I can really complain about is that the series finale had so much going on that it could have filled a fourth season, which I would have welcomed greatly.
I do like this show, I wish the promised spinoffs would come but 🤷 Anyway, I noticed people who didn't like the series finale. Which is fine, it did feel rushed, but I did like it. I liked it more than the SVTFOE finale that's for sure.
While I did have my issues with season 3, absolutely amazing finale aside (Mainly due to how rushed it can feel, at least to me, especially with how they were gonna have a fourth season before Disney pulled the plug), I still love this show (And how they did my boys Scrooge McDuck and Launchpad justice). Kinda bitter how Darkwing got shafted but hey what can you do! Nice review ERod, one of my new fave Honest Reviews of yours alongside TMNT 2012 (Really curious on your thoughts on Rise and Mutant Mayhem)
The Triplets were the main thing that this reboot got wrong. In the comics, Huey was the leader, Dewey was the brainy one and Louie was the loyal one. Huey should have been the superstar wannabe and Dewey should have been the brainy nerd. Also, the show's writers split the boys up too much. The Triplets were created to be a team, and that should never be forgotten. Also, Dewey was obnoxious. I little of that kid went a long way.
@@detectivewobbuffet2778 Here's my hot take: the Triplets personalities on Quack pack were actually better. I hope that DuckTales 2017 is the last we ever see of "It's all about me!" Dewey.

As someone who didn’t grow up with the original Ducktales I do feel the remake kinda downgraded was launchpad now I know the original was a bit of a doofus but the remake I feel kinda made him a bit dumber(like the episode he doesn’t know what Halloween is). Plus once Della came into the series outside of the Darkwing Duck episodes they didn’t really need him much anymore given she’s able to fly the plane. Though like I said I haven’t seen all of the original Ducktales so if I’m missing something please let me know.
