Fishing “old school” style. Dogs must’ve sheared or failed. There’s another video on a channel called “Salmon Slayer” that shows the full deck, six hands working the gear, shot during king crab the year before the tragic sinking. They look super pro and are all wearing every piece of safety gear imaginable including what look like hockey helmets (something I’m surprised haven’t been ubiquitous on Deadliest Catch since day one). The Scandies Rose boat and crew appear to be every bit as pro as any of the featured boats on the show. God have mercy on those lost 3 years ago. And I pray the peace that passes understanding be with those who love them. PS: Scott Campbell Jr’s biography “Giving a Finger to the Bering Sea” is an excellent insight that delves deeper into a crabber’s mindset. More than we learn from the show. I listened to it on audible and gained a better insight into this incredibly unique job. I’ll probably read Sig Hansen or Jake Andersen’s bio next and I’ll never complain about the high cost of crab again. RIP brave souls. Bering Sea crabbers represent the backbone and cajones that built America 🇺🇸🦀
Sad part is they weren’t even fishing yet. They were steaming out to the fishing grounds when severe icing and extremely heavy winds capsized the ship before 3/4 of the crew could get their survival suits on. Those last couple minutes must’ve been more terrifying than one can even imagine😢
It's so eerie watching and listening to this knowing the fate.. thankful John and Dean survived, but absolutely gutted for the remainder of the crew. All did everything right, just unfortunate circumstances.. God bless the lost souls
