But after 8yrs up and down the west coast not making shit it was time for a change and I found myself still playing on the water but getting paid immensely better as a working member of the Local 34 Piledrivers, Divers, Bridge, Wharf, and Dock Builders Union. I wasn't lucky though. I get to live missing these people every fucking day. Wondering if my minds quick thinking might have saved em. All those men were better than I and I'd trade my life for any of them in a heartbeat

Been watching Deadlist Catch from since the beginning of the show so many years ago. So sad watching these guys knowing that all will die except for 2. May they rest in peace and the survivors have peace in their lives
Two of the men shown here on deck were lost. Art and Brock and Cpt. Gary up in the wheelhouse. So damn heartbreaking. Crabbers are straight warriors. R.I.P sea soldiers!
I work on freezer trawlers here on the North Atlantic since I was 20…I’m 55 now and can’t remember a time when hard hats and vests were not worn out on deck.
After watching 16 seasons of Deadliest Catch this video better demonstrates what the work is really like without the flashy editing and intercutting weather from different parts of a trip. That’s a busy deck and they are working six-man. Imagine removing two-or even three like the show suggests? I’m not a crabber but have worked in industries where safety standards increased considerably over 20 years. Deadliest Catch featured three boats that all went down for the same reason: capsizing due to the load and/or ice: Big Valley, Destination and Scandies Rose. But there have been several more that were not featured on the show. Either Alaska or the feds will likely mandate new standards soon. The pots & rigging ice and the vessels go down so fast that getting into survival suits and safely off the sinking deck is a matter of seconds, not minutes. God bless all those lost at sea. Personally I’m not a huge fan of government overreach into everything but something has to change or we’ll keep adding lost vessels and worse, lost young men, who should’ve lived another 50 years. Heartbreakingly sad. When we watch these guys (and now gals too) work these decks let us remember who it was to whom Jesus said “follow me.” It was fishermen.
