  • While Apple's technical specification stated that the SD card reader is designed to work only with photos and video capture using a digital camera, here I show you how to transfer your own videos (with compatible format and codec) using the SD card reader when they are not recognized normally.
    iPad/iPad 2 Supported Video Format
    •H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
    •MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
    •Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format.

    Problem Solved:
    My problem getting my narrated videos and pictures from the iPad Mini 4 was one big problem.
    It seems Apple doesn’t like “Drag-N-Drop” or “Cut & Paste”.
    I could get the pictures and videos from the SD card on my Mavic 2 Zoom OK. I just plugged my USB “C” cable into it and the USB-A into the computer…. No problem there.
    When flying I like to narrate the flight so there isn’t just minutes of dead silence. I haven’t used a video editor in years. It takes so much time and you never seem to tweak it the way you want it.
    I first ordered a USB card reader with a pigtail that had a Lightning plug on the other end. I found that this is a one-way street. You could import pictures but not export them. I sent the thing back ASAP.
    Then I went to a computer store and bought another thing that had a lightning connector on one end and a built in USB/64gig storage device on the other. I downloaded the APP. It first said “this will not work in your region of the world” and that message went away as fast as it appeared.
    I downloaded the app and it said “No External Storage Found”.
    WHAT DO YOU MEAN ??? IT’S ON THE OTHER END!
    After reading the instructions they did not relate to the device so I took it back and got my $ 43.00 refund.
    I stopped at another brand name electronic store and went to their endless aisle of thumb drives, SD card readers. I found this thing called PhotoFast®.
    I opened the box… no instruction of any kind.
    I plugged it into my iPad Mini 4 and it told me which APP to download. I did and it said to download another APP which I did.
    I found my pictures and videos on the iPad and tapped on ‘select’. There wasn’t anything saying ‘continue’ I knew I had fallen into deep pit of Asian ‘figure it out your self’. I hit ‘select all’ again and up popped a menu asking if I wanted to copy all to the external storage. I was going into shock as I selected ‘copy and do not delete the pictures’.
    I saw it count down 1,2,3,4 etc. Finally all the pictures from my iPad Mini 4 were transferred to the 64gig storage.
    I plugged it into my Windows computers and there they were. I copied them to my 4 TB hard drive for safekeeping.
    I went back to that brand name store and got another device. With my luck the store will be hit by a falling meteorite and I won’t be able to find another one. NOW I have all my narrated pictures on my Windows Computer.

      +Matt Hamilton Films It may be that the iPad re-encoded them, which causes them to appear at a much lower quality. So you may want to encode them to the specification (refer to Apple's web site) of video supported by iPod, before transferring them, you could have a better result.

    say i import jpeg+raw using the card reader.. for use with Lightroom Mobile, for example. When I'm done working on them on my iPad and they've been updated on my main LIghtoom on my desktop, then how the hell do I delete the RAW files off the iPad? I'm assuming what I see in Camera Roll is just the jpeg.. if I delete the jpeg, will it automatically delete the corresponding RAW file as well? NOBODY seems to have an answer to this.. and it seems kind of stupid if you bog up your iPad with large RAW files and there's not way to remove them.

  • @liutony4872
    @liutony4872 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The sdcard was pre-formatted into either FAT32 or exFAT or even older FAT file systems conventions. Also, each device/camera manufacturer add their own files/directories to the sdcard to store certain meta-data that the camera generate, their purposes are undocumented and unclear, if you delete those meta-data files problems will shows up. It would be better for you not to rename or modify any file on the sdcard at all. In my experience, the sdcard medium and the file system is pretty fragile and not very reliable. By comparison, the eMMC (internal storage) on any phone or tablet is way way more reliable than any sdcard medium and is fairly cheap. Hopefully one day the manufacturers will wake up and start using SSD which 500G SSD is about the size of chewing gum and ditch those unreliable and expensive sdcard.

      Thanks for taking the time to write. You need to read more carefully. The title says "Using Apple Lightning to SD memory card reader", which is a completely different product from the iPad., there is nothing about iPad.

    • @josephstalin8442
      @josephstalin8442 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no way to transfer from iPad to sd card with the cable. On apples website where they sell it it only says it can be used for reading not writing data. You probably should have read more carefully.

    OMG... What a dumb problem to have... I have a trail cam that takes pictures and videos... I also have an android phone with an SD card adapter. It works perfectly for the pictures and videos. However my android phone is expensive, and I didnt like to take it out hiking in the woods. Much higher chance of getting a busted screen, soaked, or mud all over it, and there is no cellphone service there anyways. So my wife gave me her old iphone 5c that has been sitting in a drawer for years. I got myself an SD card adapter, and the pictures show up just fine... but no videos... Turns out the pictures save by default as 8 characters, but the videos are 7. So watching this video, I stuck the SD card into my computer, renamed a video the trail cam took to 8 characters, stuck it back in the iphone. BAM. it works on the iphone now! However I cant make the trail camera change its naming scheme. So I cant use the iphone... Either take my android or buy 2 SD cards and swap them each time I go... stupid... GREAT VIDEO THOUGH! At least now I know...

      OMG!!!! UPDATE!!! So I thought I could outsmart the camera... So I renamed one of the videos to VID9999 to see if it would force the camera to tick over to VID10000 and I'd have my 8 characters... Well it DID trick the camera into thinking it had 9999 videos, but instead of going to VID10000, It created a new sub folder under DCIM and started back over with VID0001!!!! I cant win... GAH!!!!

    Sometimes I laugh on how people comment, I mean something like this "good lord get on with it man". HaHaHa!!! but actually to deal with such a video like this one, all you have to do is click on the youtube video gear settings and then change the Speen from Normal to: 1.25 or more. and you'll see the difference.

    • @conceptedge
      @conceptedge  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Soccerboy61902 Yes, you may, but you may only upload without conversion those format with the exact specification supported by the iPad. You can find them on Apple's web site. For example, in this video, I copied a VGA (640x480) AVI file. However, for the most recent MPEG4 videos, the encoding requirement is specific and the iPod is picky about what can be played.

    • @conceptedge
      @conceptedge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, unfortunately either you change the file name in a computer or have it directly from the camera as most cameras will name the files 8.3 format.
