The picture at 4.59 of a ‘plasty dolly’ as we called them is actually one of many listening booths in the EMI record factory in Hayes, UK, where young girls listened to the pressings for faults caused during the press procedure. You might think it was the job every teenager dreamed of but in fact it was the ultimate in boredom. I worked in the Works Laboratory just yards from where this picture was taken. I’m 85 and it brought back some happy memories.
