The Patreon screen is now outdated, I've removed mp3 downloads and changed things up quite a bit but obviously can't change the video without completely reuploading it.
I wish FromSoft would've kept making music for the levels themselves. Sure, the boss themes nowadays are bombastic, but I would've loved something to set the mood. Shrine of Amana for example just has barebone music, but it already gives it such an eerie feeling. Wish more places had that.
@@bup6340 Yeah, i agree to an extent. i think some areas in the Souls games are sold by the oppressive silence, but others would be better with a light track. I grew up playing Eternal Ring, but never got to the other games of that era of FS.
@@themattbat999 Yeah, some areas gotta be quiet. Absolutely agree. It's also a big point as to why places like Majula stick out so much: music is so rare outside of boss fights that you appreciate it more. But my desire for background music overpowers that :P
@@themattbat999 By far. I love Majula a lot. Generally, the idea of having areas that aren't just caverns or anything has made me so happy. I know it's called "Dark" Souls, but when I see some sunlight, even if it's dim, it just makes me happy.
That moment when you resurface almost had me in tears. So many memories came flooding back from when I was like 12. Idk why this popped up but I need to play this again in any form. Thank you for this.
I adore atmosphere of this game... Also the amount of secrets and backtracking this game has makes it so interesting to explore. Tho I didn't finish it, too hard in late game ":)
This is one of the soundtracks out there that really shines after playing the game. The music is very intentionally tied to the emotion of the area you are exploring. Thanks for the mix!
As someone who struggles with anxiety I cant express how much mixes like this one, the soulsborne ones, persona 3 and silent hill mean to me. Thank you very much and I hope you keep making these 🙏
dude , the nostalgia , the feels , i really love this game !!! there no better feeling than to clime the tower from bottom to top in 1 seamless run with the music changing and dodging enemies like a super ninja mage soldier , i honestly believe that DS1 pre anor lando is the closest thing to this game
Bro is that intro actually in the game?? unironically that blew me away, this game is DRIPPING with atmosphere... I kinda wanna play it now. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they brought back kings field especially after armoured core 6 released
Yes it's in the game, and the best part is this is after a few hours of meatgrinder underground dungeon exploration. In King's Field 4 you are always descending deeper into the titular Ancient City. Around 4-6 hours in when you're starting to understand just how gnarly the dungeon is going to be and you start to think there's no escape, until you find a staircase that just keeps going up. It freaks you the hell out at first, but then the brutish droning ambience subsides and you're treated with that melancholy forest, and it's beautiful music. Yeah, you should play KF4
Definitely recommend. I'd recommend playing Dark Souls 2 first personally; there's tons of parallels between 2 and this game that'll make you appreciate the Ancient City more.
i started playing kings field 4 only because of music and not gonna lie, i loved it, none of the souls game can't compare with amount of atmosphere kings field 4 has. I highly recommend to play the game, pc2x is the way to go.

the graphics and age of this game only adds to the otherworldly feel and atmosphere of the game, things that will probably never be done with today's graphics.
That track is so weird, it doesn't fit all with the rest of the soundtrack. Even the area it's for, I wished they made a dark gloomy track like the rest of the game's areas
I wish I could play this game so bad, I recently played through Lunacid on steam which is very similar to this game and it made me want to plat KF even more
I had a more soulful gaming experience when I discovered and play this than later FromSoft games. I went a bit backwards from Souls-like back to the prehistory of FromSoft, not knowing what to find. Controls were janky, things are outdated, but it was worth it. Why do old games have such atmosphere modern games cannot give me even with tons of graphics and remastered sound?
demons souls is another earlier fromsoft game with fantastic atmosphere. A great question you pose at the end of your comment though, I wish modern games even newer fromsoft ones could even slightly match the level of atmosphere some older titles have.
@@_dibbs It's true and I love it. I played recently the PS3 version of Demon Souls and loved the atmosphere. I am now trying the remastered on PS5. It's all right so far, I am not certain if they cached up with the atmosphere, maybe older graphics add to that more. However they made Tower of Latria different, the singing was only when approaching a certain cell, and now you always hear it, I don't like that. I think I am gonna replay the PS3 version again when I finish the remastered.
@@darkbugo7212 yeah the atmosphere is definitely worse in the remake; sound design, soundtrack, and art direction as well. tower of latria definitely takes the biggest hit in the atmosphere department. but oh well, these things happen when a different studio remakes a beloved classic (especially a miyazaki game) but at least the gameplay and level design is untouched and they added some new stuff. i recommend watching "The Demon's Souls Remake Is Inferior To The Original" by Ratatoskr if you want to find out why a lot of huge fans of the original prefer it to the remake.
25:15 This is such a beautiful shot along side the music. When people say the graphics have aged poorly but the art style is timeless, this is what they mean. btw anyone know where this shot taken is in-game?
I miss the idea of just having full on songs playing while exploring areas, not just slight background ambience. Compare elden ring's area themes to the ones in kf4, the areas may look similar and empty due to technical limitations but every song sets the atmosphere so well. Especially holy forest, temple of healing, mansion of the howling winds and dark reality are my favorites. Silence doesn't equal lonelier atmosphere
I miss the days when more games would thank you for playing. You spend all those hours, maybe weeks, of your life, getting frustrated, dying, feeling sorrow and joy. Not just a thanks for spending the $30, it's for taking the time to play through the art the developers spent years making with all their hearts. It feels so good to be appreciated. It makes me tear up. 🥲

The transition from the Ancient City to the Mansion of Howling Winds is so smooth I didn't even realize they were different songs
I need to play this game one day. Old FS had a very different vibe. So haunting yet majestic.

My lastest favourite dungeon synth album.
