    "Mild Hybrid" as a fancy Start-Stop system is just about the best description of these 48V systems...

      Don't ignore the fact that you also get a power boost at low RPM's.

    Sorry, but volts is NOT energy. You can get the same amount of energy in a 48 Volt and a 600 Volt system.

      Not true since to aquire the power of a 600 volt battery running on 1 Amper means a 48 volt battery would need 12.5, lastly a hybrid 1.8 uses nickel batteries producing 51kw while a 2.0 Toyota hybrid does 82kw.
      So a Toyota hybrid battery can produce up to 80000 watts while a mild hybrid ranges from 500 watts to 1000 watts, max output of a mild hybrid is 20 amps (48 volts)(1kw) while a Toyota hybrid max output is 133 amps (600 volts)(80kw)
      A Toyota hybrid battery produces up to 86 horsepower while a mild hybrid does .3 to 1.2 horsepower
      (No thermal loss included)
      For a mild hybrid 48v battery to push 80kw it would need about 1,600 amps which is impossible using the largest wires possible for a car.

    On the test cycle, a *BMW 520d MHEV emitted 1 mg/km of NOx,* a Camry Hybrid produced 4mg/km... just saying
    Note: I'm not biased as I like Toyota hybrid and love the new Camry hybrid. I do own a BMW 320d with mild-hybrid technology, it's very impressive and the engine is off 35% of normal driving and doesn't have a eCVT but has a nice 8-speed automatic. Some diesels pollute a good amount of NOx but most modern ones do *NOT.*

    Mild hybrids where the engines do all the work. The same as a hybrid. Because the electricity generated by a hybrid, is from the petrol engine. Anything that doesn't plug in gets energy from petrol or diesel.

    "In any system of energy, Control is what consumes energy the most.
    No energy store holds enough energy to extract an amount of energy equal to the total energy it stores.
    No system of energy can deliver sum useful energy in excess of the total energy put into constructing it.
    This universal truth applies to all systems.
    Energy, like time, flows from past to future".

      Well for starters he calls it a Toyota Hybrid system. It's just a hybrid system and not unique to Toyota. The other thing is that Toyota are also releasing mild hybrids so everything is saying about it. Being a Toyota hybrid is incorrect. Then he compares a diesel which is known for high pollution to a petrol hybrid which is not a accurate comparison

    Excuse me but are you in the sales team? 'cause this is the most acid way of trying to present this fact. I've had a Auris and I can tell you that in the crowded town that live was consuming around 12 liters of gas / 100 km. I've changed with a Focus 1.5 L mild hybrid and, on the same city it's consuming 10 L / 100 km. And I can prove it, if you need. Interestingly, the transmission it's also automatic, not CVT but I can assure you that it's very comparable with it and with quite more torque. On the highway it's doing a lot better. I know that it's a different class but, man....I could agree that you want to make a commercial to Toyota, still, you don't need to be so subjective. Mild hybrid it's not so bad, I've tested both, and until Toyota will give me a car that goes below 12 L / 100 I'm sticking with the Ford that has won for years the engine of the year. By the way, 600 volts it's not the power. Power it's voltage multiplied by the current. If you want, I can teach you, I'm an engineer and I don't work on sales :)) .

  • @florin-titusniculescu5871
    @florin-titusniculescu5871 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    why, oh why did you have to start with equating energy with volts. not even watts. or watthours ... really, all the cells in every battery ever made is about 1.5V. then you just stack them up and make 12V, 600V, 3kV, anything inbetween, whatever amount a motor needs. the energy in these batteries, when fully charged, is directly proportional to their sheer weight. basically, you carry your energy as weight. and a 1000lb battery can take you around Ireland on a full charge, but a 1000lb load of petrol can take you around the whole Europe. that's also because the battery weighs exactly the same in any charging state, full to zero.
    that said, an energy recovery system, i.e. a mild hybrid, should've been and might've been standard in any petrol car since 100 years ago. the technology is that old.

    Some slightly misleading comments in this video. I have just bought a brand new 2021 Suzuki Mild Hybrid 1.2L Ignis here in Spain with a newly designed 10 Ah lithium ion battery. Car is fully loaded, manual transmission, petrol and cost 16,800 euros out the door. On my 1st full tank I got 58 mpg. Cost of replacement battery is approx 600 euro and has a 5 year warranty. The car is also available with an automatic trans (CVT). Now, if you do the math and figure in the cost of buying a Toyota Hybrid in Ireland, long term, I believe the Suzuki is a much better value for money. I remember when my Father bought a Toyota Corrolla in the 80's...that's when Toyotas were still actually affordable...funny how there was no price comparison in the above video. I don't know anyone who can afford a new Toyota hybrid.

      You can fuel-up a gas electric hybrid, like the Toyota Prius, at every gas station. The gasoline engine and the brakes are charging the battery. There is no need to plug it in. There are plug-in hybrids, which give you the option to charge the battery also at charging stations. This is different from all electric cars, like the Tesla, where range can be an issue. Electric charging stations might not be everywhere available, and charging an all electric vehicle takes more time than getting gas for a regular car or a hybrid.

    The hybrid era will be over in the next 10 years. It is a transition technology, nothing more. The actual future is in pure electric vehicles, powered by batteries, or for large vehicles (lorries, coaches etc.) a hydrogen fuel cell. At present, the only justification for a hybrid is if you need to do regular journeys that exceed the range of an EV, or you live in a home that cannot support home charging.

  • @simonreeves2017
    @simonreeves2017 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    All hybrids are dead technology anyway, the last death throws of combustion engined vehicles. Basically if the car has a liquid fuel tank that you put petrol or diesel in, then it is dead technology. Toyota are picking over the bones here, why? Because they have been caught napping in EV development. Like BMW did with the i3, Toyota got all smug about the Prius and its eco credentials, then just walked away saying 'job done'. The Prius and the i3 are both great cars, but they were the beginning of the process of change for Toyota and BMW, not the end.

  • @ZucaCabraDaPeste
