Instrumental music of my bagpipe tune set, Unreel jigs. I wrote these tunes with a bit of a combination of Scottish music, Irish folk and Celtic instrumental inspiration.

Bagpipes are under appreciated, it really is an instrument of great pride.
Being a grade 4 sr competing bagpiper, agree that the Great bagpipes are under appreciated and need to be appreciated more.
They get a bad wrap because of low quality pipers. unfortunately they are a difficulty instrument to be good at.
But that shouldn't discourage anyone. Haters always gonna hate😅

@Michael Halligan I disagree. Top grade competitors display an incredible amount of physical and musical talent. They evolved a lot from a rough Roman instrument during the conquest of Britannia. Irish war pipes resemble close to what the Romans used

@The Rocktavius try melvin reeds they are a bit harder out of the box but you can shave them down.
@@lelandreid5425 Melvin reeds aren't bad, but I think Shepherd reeds are a little better.
I played for years and lost interest i played a set the other day and the hunger nearly came back
They are a besutiful instrumnent and when played right like here there isnt an istrument in the world can touch them for stiring emotion

This is a very interesting style of playing, I for one would not mind learning this style had I been given the chance to do so in this lifetime, what an amazing thing for a lowly 2nd grade world class out of practice piper to have, just to get that fire back in my belly.

Stunning!! Almost seems like piping crossed with a guitar solo at some points! Amazing. Those birls are like rocket ships! And that cut note at @3:38 where the chanter drops but the drones don't so much as waver....

Blown away-how do you play so clean at that speed?
I've watched this video half a dozen times and only just noticed the G# at about 0:40 in Unreel. That is probably the hardest false note to hit reliably and without crossing noises, and Lincoln Hilton just blasted though it perfectly, so fast I almost didn't even notice it. What a legend! Love your music man!
How is this note played?
@@tiemenbosma3064 The G# false note is played on most chanters by playing a regular high G, except with your left middle and ring finger down on the E and F holes respectively, and usually your low hand is fingering a C. That may be a little bit hard to understand so alternatively, the only holes which are open are the High G hole (under left index finger) and the low A and B holes (under right hand middle and ring fingers). All that being said, the G#, like other false notes on the chanter is unreliable and sometimes just doesn't sound or sounds very out of tune. You'll have to mess around with chanter/reed combos to find one that allows false notes like this.

I would love to hear an extended version of unreel, it would make awesome battle music, but the cheery pieces that follow kind of ruins the vibe. I still love this song to bits and have listened to it like a hundred times. keep up the awesome work.

How Long do you Need To Play so Good ?
Been at it for 43 years and I am still learning. That's something I try instill in my students as well. Lincoln is a phenomenal Piper and you don't get like that unless you work hard and moreover love what you are doing.

9 year old Lincoln: Mom, I think I wanna learn to play the bagpipes. Mom: That's awesome Honey. How much does a set of bagpipes cost? LH: Well I need a Practice Chanter first...they are about $100. And lessons are about $60 each. Mom: Hmm...ouch. OK Honey but you better not get bored and quit. LH: OK mom, I promise. 6 weeks later... LH: Mom, check out my playing...squeak, squawk. Mom: That's great Honey, keep up the good work. 6 weeks later: LH: Mom, my teacher says I'm ready for a set of bagpipes. Mom: Wow, that's great Honey. How much are they? $1500 for a used starter set. Mom: (horror on face) Holy Shit! Are you sure you wouldn't rather join the chess club? LH: Mom, you said "you better not get bored and quit"...well I'm not quitting. 10 years later, Lincoln Hilton is one of the greatest modern pipers in the world. Keep it up LH, you have a fan in the States.

Awesome! It would be nice though to hear these tunes without all that other music accompaniment. As a 50-year piper, I've always felt the pipes can stand on their own. Any additional instruments should take a back seat and be less overpowering.
