+Lewis Grace She certainly was very nice when we went to meet her and, I agree, I don't think all the abuse directed at Liz or any of the other candidates helps. We need a grown up debate.

Can't shake off Frankie Boyle's take on her: "Liz Kendall, with her permanent air of an office manager who has just come back from a course, couldn’t lure a voter out of a burning building - and her whole campaign is based on changing Labour to be whatever people who hate it want it to be."

I'm the real anti-austerity candidate... because I'm the one that's going to beat the Tories, kick them out and get us a Labour government" A horribly cringeworthy soundbite that indicates how vacuous her beliefs are.

  • @-rothschildocracy-6640
    @-rothschildocracy-6640 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Anti-Austerity means eat the young to pay off the debts of the old. The old will be dead before our Trillions of £'s in debt will be due to be paid. The old want their benefits by cooking and eating the young and making it impossible to compete. The current system should not have been propped up so aggressively after 2008. Young people would have done far better off if a proper correction was allowed to take place. Young people have not been the beneficiaries of the debt-money that they ultimately will have to pay off
Let austerity cleanse the system. We are mainlining economic heroin for the duration we run up a deficit. People need to experience true reality in order to snap to their senses and go out and start building skills again!
Manufacturing will never return to this country for the duration we have a welfare system, I guarantee you that. Let an absence of printed money correct the system to the new reality we've faced for 10 years.

Owen gives me hope for the future. He is a decent and fair person, a rare quality these days. This is the caliber of person Labour needs to attract into Parliament. I know he won't stand, but I reckon he will give inspiration to others of similar values and abilities, to get involved in the mucky business of politics.

    • @PrincipledUncertainty
      @PrincipledUncertainty 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

***** Gaining an Oxbridge education is hardly a bad thing and his Dad was a shop steward and his Mum an IT lecturer. Hardly McJobs but at least he isn't some Etonion, like those running the Tories. His family have been involved in Socialist politics for generations, not exactly the history of some out of touch elitist. I have no doubt he has got things wrong, as for deliberately spreading misinformation, you will have to back that up with an example.

Good on Owen for breaking down Liz's ill-thought out politics and public image front. Baring her teeth when she's forced to contend with the shocking reality of her leader Tony Blair. How can anyone be for affordable housing and higher wages and at the same time support mass immigration and open borders? High demand = low wages and high property prices and high rents. Yes, you could tax the crap out of the richest people, but do that and most of them will just transfer their wealth abroad or move to a cheaper country, as they always do. I've asked this question 10 times already, I still can't get an answer.

As much as it's good to interview people with a broad range of political opinions, I can't help but think listening to Liz Kendall's opinions on policy is a waste of time (in that, she doesn't really seem to have any definitive ideas. Also, the whole not condemning Tony Blair thing...pretty mad)
Why not interview some politicians who aren't as hounded by the national press post-election like Maggie Chapman, Patrick Harvie, Leanne Wood etc? Also, with the anniversary of the referendum coming up, why not try and get Salmond? It would be good to see him have a proper, in-depth political discussion instead of just being a bit of a hard-arse to the Tories.

This is how good journalism works - you ask challenging questions and give the interviewee a proper opportunity to respond. Liz Kenbdall comes over as a far more reasonable person in this interview than she does in a lot of the mainstream media coverage. She's still wrong - but I wish other journalists would give Jeremy Corbyn the same respect as Owen Jones gives her.

Good honest interview and friendly exchange of ideas. Thanks for this, we need more debate like this and less insult throwing.

You didn't ask here about her pledge to reverse some of the Tory Governments trade union legislation.

I was pleased to see this. I don't think Kendall is unlikable, but I do think her policies are wrong. I also think she's come across as patronising at times, lecturing the party, which has amplified the backlash against her. I wish you had taken her more head-on on some of her statements and positions Owen, especially with regard to welfare.

She really is a lightweight. Most unconvincing. The sort of responses one hears in a pub.

One more thing. There are plenty of good reasons for wanting to vote for Jeremy Corbyn but one is being able to watch him against Cameron at PMQ's every week. I cannot wait!

Today, in July 2024, she is the most frightening part of the Labour party, being by far the most dim-witted, right wing, empty headed minister of the new cabinet who competes with the worst of the previous government. Mark my words - she will outdo Priti Patel in unpopularity very soon. She should join Reform because that is where her policies will be aligned.

Liz's main problem is all this triangulating and not her policies. Plain speaking would serve her very well.

Are you Liz? Are you the anti-austerity candidate? Or are you just using this to try and get some support like Jeremy Corbyn has.

    "I think people want change"
thats why Jeremy corbyn is so popular amongst labour voters and so feared amongst establishment politicans like liz kendal

Love how she never addressed the issue of Scotland and whether her policies will win back the voters. Same old, same old.

It's a crying shame that she's been discriminated against because of her sex/gender. There's enough shit on her from her awful and uninspired policies to keep her out of the picture, why focus on her looks rather than her principles, you know, what actually matters?
