      +Owen Jones Please ask Liz how abstaining in the welfare bill counts as fighting against it? As it turned out, all of the Labour MP's could have voted no and the bill would have not passed. Due to there being so many abstainers including Kendall, Burnham and Cooper, the bill passed. Abstaining does not count as fighting against the Tory's.

      +SJW101, the political gamer Students who refuse to hear opposing views or allow their respective universities to host political debate they see as "offensive". Many of my fellow students seem to think that banning conservative speakers from campuses by no platforming them because they have the strange notion that they don't see those views they don't exist.
      Of course, such extreme politics like this ensures that these views cannot go unchallenged because no one can debate them, so echo chambers are formed where these views become even more polarised and potentially even dangerous (see Britain First etc).
      TL;DR I guess, so called liberal students are acting illiberally because they can't face opposing opinions that diversify and make politics interesting.

    the best way the government can control rents is by being the landlord. All this tinkering with capitalism never works. Landlords will just sell their houses if rent controls come in. Basic socialism vs social democracy. Ownership of the means of production vs reforming the capitalist means of production.

    How can you speak of "austerity" when your country is still (over)spending more than it takes in? In fact, all countries complaining of "austerity" still run deficits - Greece supposedly doesn't, but those figures haven't been verified, and since they cooked the books to get in the Euro(millions), I trust'em about as far as I can throw'em.. Does that make 90% of all households champions of "austerity" since, you know, they not only don't spend more than they make but, hey, they actually usually run a surplus, i.e. savings..?
    Just give me that "you can't compare a country to a person or a company" tripe... If it was all that different, countries wouldn't go broke now, would they?

    • @gigahoe42
      @gigahoe42 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very, very few countries have run a surplus ever in modern times and if they have it was normally for 1 year at a time.

    • @vulpesinculta3238
      @vulpesinculta3238 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +gigahoe42 That might be a major flaw in the current system.

    • @gigahoe42
      @gigahoe42 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Vulpes Inculta I agree, but under this system if you run a surplus you're effectively wiping off that value from the country. I've seen economists explain this, although I don't pretend to fully understand it :p

    • @Kropotkin2000
      @Kropotkin2000 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +jjrdias Firstly, George Osborne isn't serious about reducing deficit spending. He would also be a complete fool to do so, as it would cause an economic downturn.
      Why? Because a government deficit is a private sector surplus. If a government taxes more than it spends, than it takes money out of the private sector--and that means less consumer spending, and less investment by businesses.
      The only exception where a country can viable run a budget surplus is if it has a large enough trade surplus, as then new money comes in from abroad. it's about sectoral balances--the private sector balance, the government budget, and the trade balance. They roughly have to equal to zero.
      In the case of the UK, "austerity" is more of a pretext to attack welfare and public services than an economic strategy. As Osborne has slashed spending on the poorest and most vulnerable, he's spent more, and taxed less in other areas, thus maintaining a deficit and keeping the economy "growing"--at least for the rich.
      You'll find that most households do not actually spend less than their incomes. Most households are net debtors, particularly mortgage debt. Household debt to GDP is near 100% in the UK, business and finance sectors have even larger debts. The UK is one big private sector credit bubble.
      Governments typically do not go broke either. The only times they do is when they have external debts denominated in a currency or resource they do not issue or control themselves--like Greece.
      So, indeed. You cannot compare a country to a person or a company. It isn't tripe, and I hope I've gone some way in explaining how it isn't.

    Any vote for Labour or the Conservatives is a vote for the destruction of this country, austerity or not:
    Net migration has reached 330,000.
    The foreign born population has exceeds 8 million people.
    You are witnessing the death of the United Kingdom. This level of migration is unprecedented in our history. We can't control our borders and neither of the two major parties are willing to take any action.

    • @PeterGrayIsAwesome
      @PeterGrayIsAwesome 9 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      +Robert Mugabe Migration isn't a problem. The only problem is people's attitudes towards migrants and foreigners. This is becoming a globalised world, and thinking just in terms of a country and one nationality is outdated now.

    • @PeterGrayIsAwesome
      @PeterGrayIsAwesome 9 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      +Mark L So because I welcome people from other cultures and countries, I don't judge people on ethnicity and nationality I hate myself? Migration is a GOOD thing. More people = more tax money = better public services. The only way it can be bad is if it is mismanaged, like it is today with our current government.
      Also, if people need help and we have the facilities and wealth to give them health, it is only right that we do.

    as race relations minister, this creature tried to spit in the face of free speech and silence debate on immigration in the house of commons. little wonder then that the worst race riots in the north for over a facade happened on his watch.
    as did the tragic case of Victoria Clumbia (sic). A victim of terrible child abuse and neglected by a system presided over by, you guessed it, this vile sludge.
    He then topped that off by getting drunk, (at our expense) during a cricket match. Verbally abused a policeman while screeching, 'do you know who am?', as if he's some sort of celebrity. For this Tony B. liar gave him 500 grand of our money then let him gracefully retire. Nice work if you can get it.
    Recently he spearheaded Ed Miliband's leadership campaign. that turned out well.
    This cretin is a walking disaster, only skilled in self enrichment. everything he does ends catastrophe. No one with any sense would put him in charge of a broom cupboard.

    Austerity works. As long as the markets are free and there are no subsidies Austerity will work and has. Look at Warren Hardings handling of the Depression of 1920-1921. Harding cut spending in half, yet the USA recovered in 2 years. Incomes for all groups increased a substantial amount. Austerity when done properly works. Now when you have closed markets, lots of red tape and high taxes, but spending going down then of course it will fail. But Market Liberalisation and tax cuts are the way to go when you cut spending.

    This is exactly the kind of person we need to rule the new Europe we live in, in order to help us deal with our differences through integrating policies.
    I stand for Sadiq, we can either reject the wave of immigrants forthcoming including those who have already been here for a long time or accept that a new globalised world full of cultural diversity is a reality we all are undergoing so that we can find solutions to this by collaborating.
    Furthermore there's also the issue of global warming, and because of that we must stay together more than ever and for that to happen 21st century politicians are needed, welcome Sadiq!
    (I'm spanish xDDDD)

    A muslim mayor isn't brave. London hasn't been an English city for a while, the islamic republic of Londonistan having a muslim mayor isn't a surprise.

      I take it you don't live here then. I live in Tower Hamlets which is the most densely populated area of the country and has one of the highest proportion of Muslims and I never feel in the minority as a white bloke. Even in parts where it is predominantly people of asian decent I never see any issues, we all just get along!

      +gigahoe42 Then you've been accustomed to crawling. To looking down when a group of South Asian men walks by. To ignoring the noises, the smells, the groups hanging around or walking around. The criminality, the decay. That is not a sign of tolerance, it is a sign of submissiveness and it makes me absolutely sick. Get a spine, man.

      Vulpes Inculta Wow, that's a truly horrible reply! "ignoring the noises, the smells" what's wrong with other culture's food and music? East London has always been an area of diversity whether its people from the subcontinent or Jewish immigrants back in the day.
      " the groups hanging around or walking around" - what's wrong with people hanging or walking around? Is it ok if I see a group of white people doing that?
      "criminality, the decay" - you obviously don't know much about East London. There was plenty of crime here before any other cultures were present, and its actually tons safer than in the past.
      So I guess you know jack shit about what you're talking about.

    you should talk to George galloway he is running for mayor as well and he has better policies - you should check it out Galloway for mayor . alondonforall - also he said in another interview going against corbyn - changing your words - unreliable - getting loads of investment from business developers - that means that they have influence on him so he will easily drop things. zac goldsmith would be no defferent to boris- who didnt really do anything . best option is galloway as he is experienced - he has been mayor before - research about him and u will choose him.- he wants free travel for students which is really cool personallly as student
