Congrats on your new role! I am currently studying UX and developing my portfolio. It's definitely scary to think about searching for a new job during this economy. But your videos are giving me hope! So thank you so much for that! And please, film a video of interview questions and tips. It'd be super helpful!
I am so excited to see you grow even more as a UX designer, congrats on the new role!!! Also thank you for sharing your entire interview process and emotions and keeping it real
I’m still working on my capstones for my UX course. Lacking motivation to finish up the case studies too, but need to push thru it so I can start applying for the positions
Hi Mimi, new sub here! Congratulations to you! I am two months into simply attempting to make it as a UX Researcher. I can completely relate to your journey from your prior video. What you had to go through to get that senior position, I can only fathom! I'm very happy you got the new opportunity you were looking for and that your efforts paid off. Nothing except enormous success is what I hope for you. Also, if it's not too much to ask, if you do decide to create a video with interviewing tips, would you mind sharing some of the questions you prepared for in the extensive document you had briefly mentioned?
hi mimi! i was just watching your past videos on ux design as i’m interested in entering the ux design career, and this vid came up just in time! hope you’re recovering well from covid and thank for sharing your updates w us!
YOU GO GURL! And thanks for your interview tips :D you’re honestly I feel like the only one that gives us reality hits of the UX design journey and I love it!
Congrats on your new position!! 🎉 and thank you for the tip to ask about job security - that’s definitely been a concern of mine while job searching. I had a company that I was interviewing with freeze hiring too, so I’ll definitely be sure to ask about this next time. I also would love to hear more of your interview tips!
Congratulations girl! 🎉 So happy for you. Job searching and interviewing is it’s own animal, I went through not too long. But I also came out the other side so, I’m ecstatic for you!
Omg, I absolutely love your blogs because I feel like I can absolutely relate to everything. Thank you for sharing your experiences and being able to be vulnerable with us. Seeing your optimism and positive energy even after all the obstacles has given me so much strength to keep moving forward. I've been having such bad imposter syndrome because I'm transitioning my job from a Senior UI designer into a Senior Product Designer because I absolutely love the UX aspect but I've been getting so scared and self doubting myself. 😔
Conjuration on your new job!!! I love watching your video and I know you work so hard to get where you are and I am just so happy to here you go a new job!! I wish you all the best and I would love to hear your tips on interviewing.
maybe i'm a little too late, but i just finish my bootcamp and my portfolio. looking forward to send applications and getting those interview call and i'm so glad that you made this video it's really helpful :)
Congrats on the new job! So excited for you! I related so deeply to your last video and I’m very happy to see how it’s turning out for you. I actually just started DesignLab Foundations this week after watching your videos for a while and finally finding the courage to do it. Of course would love to see an interview tips and tricks video from you in the future!
Thank you for sharing your experience, and congrats for the things that you are reaching. YES! Please, I want to get those interviewing tips and tricks!
This was a great video and the first video I have watched of yours! Subscribed! Congrats on your new role. Thank you for sharing these tips and trick as well as being vulnerable and honest as I know it can be scary. I have some time before I apply for a ux role but this info def seems timeless no matter the economic state as job security is always important. Def took notes!
"are they gonna find out I'm a fraud?" I find it interesting that most people when trying out something new ask themselves this question. I think sometimes we have the tendency to not see our own potential and project it onto others and scare ourselves out of a great opportunity. Could it be......self-sabatoge???? I'm glad you keep pushing!!!! Most people quit right after asking themselves this question alone. I hope your career takes off the way you imagined it to.
Would you be willing to share your interview study guide or your slide decks with us? I'm on the brink of applying to a few positions, but answering questions - esp behavioral ones- get me spooked. Love your honest videos. Congrats on your new role!!
Hi Mimi… just had a second interview with a company. I honestly feel like I was set up for failure with this one. I specifically asked if there was anything I should prepare or bring with me to my second interview and was told “nope. Its just a meet and greet since the HR managers really loved you.” And then i got there and was expected to walk through one of my projects on the spot…. Needless to say I have not heard back from them and its been an entire week. I always get to the 2nd and 3rd rounds and then no offer. Ive been applying for 7 months and Im so discouraged.
During my study we had to work for one semester (6 months) in an outside company. It was really a horror to find a company. It took me in total a year to find a company which wanted to take me. I kept it as a side job and now they couldn't renew my contract because of the current situtation. The biggest problem I'm facing is my portfolio. I don't have so many impressive works to show and there is rarely a company who wants to try a risk and invite you to an interview. I'm really scared about searching a new side job now since I have experienced how long it can take...
Congrats on the new position Mimi! I've been debating if I want to transition to UX Design after college and I really enjoy watching your videos to get insight on the industry. If you have time could you please make the interviewing questions video :)
The situations is not getting any better in 2024. I have been wanting to pivot into tech for so long but the market is not good for freshers right now. Practically no jobs. I am firm about traditional degrees now as they always provide a backup plan and also the transferable skills required for other roles.
Hey! I love watching your videos but mostly admiring your courage and will to share these very personal, vulnerable but gladly successful stories with us. I haven't had watched your previous video so I paused this and went to see the other one. I could almost feel a bit of your anxiety when you were about to read an email 😫, but the editing and storytelling of your videos is also just... 👌✨. I hope you do great in your next adventure and thank you for so valuable tips!
Heyo Mimi, I'm a newcomer here so I don't know much about what's happened outside of what you described in the video, but huge congrats on your new role and I hope that in addition to the new challenges and stimulus, you'll be in a space to recuperate and prosper mentally and physically. ^^ There are some questions I'd like to ask as someone who wants to become a UX and UI designer as well and is currently enrolled in a 3-year Bachelor of Ideation Design course here in South Africa, but I shall save that for after I check a few more videos to see if it hasn't been answered already!
This is so great. I'm trying to leave my current role (and, as luck would have it, making a video about it) and it's not been easy. But I graduated college in 2020 so really it hasn't been easy the whole time 🤷🏾♀️
Congrats Mimi on the new position! As far as imposter syndrome, I just heard a podcast that mentioned if you don't have imposter syndrome you may be a psychopath (LOL) so get uncomfortable & embrace it! you're not a psychopath 🤣🤣
What kind of questions do you prepare for before an interview and how do you know what they will ask? Also, how do you present your portfolio? Love your videos, Mimi! They're so helpful! 💕
I would love if you shared the document! You have done a lot of effort to create it, so if you aren't willing to share it, I completely understand! Congratulations on this new chapter of your life.
This is my spam account lol but YES pls give a full video on interviewing tips and your process! You are so helpful and amazing and I really appreciate your videos!
Wooooooowahh. Congratulations!!! It's always alwaysss when you have some sort of breakdown that you get your breakthrough! Never had a doubt! Make sure to CELEBRATE if you haven't already!
Thank you!! Ahh I can’t believe it’s coming out next month, I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact that Chadwick Boseman is gone 😢 hopefully it’ll be good!
Thank you so much for the tips Mimi! And congrats on making it through, I admire your perseverance! Are the companies you applied for all tech and is it a much bigger company or a mix of startups - mid etc? Wondering if there might also be any relation between company size and hiring freezes or that just happens across the board
Hi! I did not apply to any startups, mostly companies that were pubic and mid sized but not FAANG so I can’t speak confidently if there’s an association there. Great question!
oh my god everyone is working in AI now, we really are going to have a fully automated society... you might feel excited but remember your job might be replaced by AI as well... literally seeing ton of people being replaced by AI lately
Yes please do a video on interviewing tips
Congrats on your new role! I am currently studying UX and developing my portfolio. It's definitely scary to think about searching for a new job during this economy. Yes hun, been waiting for the hot tea 🐸☕️ Congrats!
Much success to you. Sorry you had covid 4 times.
I only heard about ux design recently. I had watched your video that was suggested to me.
Thank you for your honesty 🌻 it's so easy to just look at the success of someone else and forget about the journey it took to get there.
Thanks for watching, Eloise 💕💕 means a lot!
Happy for your new adventure. Yes please, interview tips would be helpful!
You’re very relatable and realistic. Refreshing.
