kizo82 his snatch is just so fucking dominant... when I saw him hit 220 it looked like an opener, maybe a second attempt. I’ve said similar, and most people scoff and say no one will ever total 500kg but I am not so sure. I think he could add 10kg to both lifts and his bests total exactly 20kg less than 500kg (220kg snatch, 260kg C&J)
Can he add 20kg to his total? I believe he can. Is it likely? No... but it’s not impossible. I’d say 20% chance approximately. Everything has to go perfectly, but let’s take a look at what he’s got going for him: Most weightlifters in the lighter weight classes peak around 24-30, whereas historically, heavyweight lifters peak slightly later at approximately 27-33 start declining in their early thirties, some maintaining to their mid thirties but this is somewhat rare for all weight classes. It is just a hypothesis, but I suspect the reason the super heavyweight class has more longevity and/or a later peaking age on average is because they do not have a maximum bodyweight to worry about surpassing besides for practical reasons such as leverages and mobility. They can continue to add strength through muscle gain (hypertrophy) for longer workout maxing out their frame. Lasha is 25, so it is fair to say that he is a few years from his prime and that he has at least 2 Olympics left, 3 if he remains injury free. If he can put 2 kilos on each lift per year, by the time of the 2024 Olympics, he will be at the peak of his prime (31 years old) with theoretical maxes of 230/270 if things go perfectly for him. That being said, he is one of the most consistent lifters out there. I can’t think of a single competition I’ve watched him in in the last few years that he hasn’t gone 6/6. This is the most likely route to hitting 500kg in competition, IMO, at the 2024 Olympics or in a high level competition somewhere around 2022-2026.
His performance in 2020 will be telling as I have never seen him struggle to make a snatch. Some of his C&J’s have been close, but all his third attempt snatches look like he has more in the tank. Until I see him fail a snatch, I think he has more than 220kg in him even now, he just has to attempt it. I don’t know if he’s ever hit higher numbers than 220/260 in the gym. It would be interesting to know if he’s ever hit a jerk about 260KG taken out of a rack, because his clean looks effortless. I don’t expect him to ever fail a clean and jerk on the clean. So if he’s jerked more from high blocks/rack, I suspect he can lift it during a full C&J... the main variable is not whether he can clean it, it’s the energy expenditure used in cleaning it. But again, he looks like he’s almost power cleaning these weights. Absolutely insane. He is something else.

Until I see him fail a snatch definitively or even make a snatch barely (something that looks like a true max), I think he has more than 220kg in him even now, he just has to attempt it.

With most weightlifters slomo footage you see their squat deepen when they catch the weight at the top of the snatch. Lashas squat didn’t deepen at all, he catches that ridiculous weight perfectly 😍
