I know that you are probably aware but the formula is exponential. A logarithmic curve would taper down very fast and higher scores wouldn't have much different affect of a lower score.
"and for that reason we're not necessarily excited to see what he can do, we're excited to see what a human is capable of doing" I can't say enough how subtle yet absolutely and extraordinarily profound this statement is. It is the reason why humanity watches all athletics.
exactly there are great weightlifters like 3 time Olympic champion Kakhiashvili, great Chinese athletes and many others... but Lasha is the embodiment of what Human can do at there maximum and I think we might see 500 kilo from him, which sounds impossible but if anyone can do it its him...
You're doing the equivalence of what Iron Mind did back in the day - letting people travel back in time watching the greats, and for that I salute you! This may seem mundane to an outsider, but videos like these are replacing the fables of the glory days - from now on people will actually be able to see for themselves.
I have to say thanks for not only putting out quality video content of lifting but thanks for adding thoughtful storylines to your videos. We need more stories of these incredible athletes and the intriguing and sometimes complicated lives they live.
i love how lasha doesn’t need to complete his 6th attempt, but like we saw at 2019 Worlds, he stays all in. other competitions will omit the attempt because they don’t need to, but not lasha. this level of competitiveness is what you love to see
It’s incredible how his first attempt in each category of this competition was alone enough to surpass the score of any other competitor , and by a distance . We are witnessing an incredible athlete who is going to redefine all records.
Also worth saying that it's not just that the Chinese lifters are in the shadows of their 1980s forefathers, they're also lifting records "for their weight class." Lasha is the only man who is doing weights that no human ever has done. No asterisks, no classes, no caveats. Just him. At this point, once he breaks Taranenko's C&J, he will be the only human being to have lifted the weights he has. Period.
I'd say Lasha on his best ever day will be capable of snatching 230 at his absolute peak. In comp I think the highest snatch we will see is 225. CJ probably 265-270 in comp, not sure if he will total 495-500 ever, but it's fucking Lasha... The dude never stops to perform miraculous feats of strenght.
I think he will be the first with 500. 230 snatch is in his reach. 270 CJ? I think he can do it. He did 264 in WC, which didn't seem too hard for him. I think he can do 275 CJ and 225 snatch and that would be what I think he will aim for. He already snatched 222 kg in training session and he did easy 264 in WC. That means 3kg progress in snatch and 10kg in CJ.
In the '19 worlds, it looked like every lift was lighter and lighter!! Yes, if someone threatened him, I wonder what his max would be. Would he reach a 500 total??
Bought the Believe 500 Lasha tee as soon as it came out, thanks for the great content! I suspect most people won't realize how fortunate we are to have Lasha on the main stage until he retires. The runner-ups to him already put up respectable totals. Slight correction, 4 weightlifters have snatched 215 kilos. Lasha, Salimi, Antonio Krastev, and Aleksandr Kurlovich. These four have snatched 215 in international, drug tested meets. Two other superheavies who have snatched this weight or more, albeit in untested meets, are Evgeny Sypko (216.5, USSR, 1990) and Alexander Levdandovsky (215). There are records of Sypko snatching 216.5, Levandovsky's 215 snatch was in a Soviet weightlifter compilation video, which got removed on YT. Here's a 210 snatch by Levandovsky though - th-cam.com/video/2I2FY2u-9VM/w-d-xo.html
Aren't you forgetting someone? Krastev, Kurlovich and Salimi makes Lasha the 4th man to snatch 215 kg or more. I mean it still doesn't change the point, but just a minor detail. Keep up the great content!
You gave Lasha three 1st attempts in the clean and jerk mate ;P Also, one question, maybe I overheard it in the video but at what weight did Lasha weigh in?
What's so funny is every time Lasha lifts, he makes it look so easy. And as soon as he drops the bar he makes a face that says "jesus fuck that was heavy". Then he adds 10kg and does it again
I understand thet we live in the present, but constantly salivating over anything Lasha does as the greatest thing ever, is not good, not even for Lasha. Here is just a paragraph from Varbanov's interview about impressive lifts he has seen in his time: "Antonio Krastev’s 225kg Snatch with straps, Zlatev’s 190kg Snatch and 230kg Clean and Jerk. Botev, he was like a machine - 210kg Snatch, 270kg Clean. His bodyweight at the time was around 115-120kg. He also had a Back Squat of 370kg for 5 reps and a 1 rep max of 450kg, I believe. We would load the bar with the thin Russian 50kg and 25kg Leoko plates. "
i am pretty sure he can do 270 in the clean and jerk and 230 in the snatch, but he just does not want to push it that far because he is already by far the greatest
215kg is a weight that's only been snatched 15 times in history, 9 of them by Lasha, he is capable of more, you can see it, I don't know what he's waiting for, go out and do a weight only he can do, that's what I'm waiting for
