I don't even shave anymore and I would be proud to own that Straight Razor. Can't say "They don't make 'em like they used to" with you. Awesome work man.

My father taught me how to shave with a straight razor, wish I had his, and would like to show my son how to use one. this razor would be a nice gift for him along with some bonding time for us. Stay safe!

Love the aesthetic of this razor. The smooth wood finish in the handle meets the roughness of the forged finish, meets the precision of the blade. Beautiful.

I really appreciate that you explain science behind the design elements. I’ve always wondered how they maintained the edge on the strop. Brings back found memories of the old time barbershop I grew up with.

This is legitimately impressive for a first time build, I couldn't tell you the number of times I've been watching "restoration videos" and they get to making the scales of a restored straight razor and they make something that looks awful and isn't ergonomic. Your scales look like factory produced ones made by a high end company.
I've never seen a straight with such a thick spine/tang, but I'm fairly positive all of the production razors today are cut out of flat stock, heat treated, and ground out with no forging.
Your shaving technique isn't terrible, but you need to pull downward/upward on your skin with your fingertips to pull the skin taut to get a really close shave, and avoid nicks and weepers. When I'm evening my sideburns I generally pull downwards at the corner of my jaw.

I've used a straight razor over the years and it certainly takes a bit of patience to get to know how to use it, best that they are SHARP SHARP SHARP, makes it easier actually, but also have to be more careful. I would love to have a hand forged and not commercially made straight razor! Sign me up, put my name in, pick a winner! If you look at my profile pic, you can see I have a beard and it's that time of year where its getting trimmed down. Thanks for sharing your skills with us!

Hello..make sure to leave the upper part of the grind to the higher diameter wheel meaning that you grind the full hollow with the small wheel (50mm) but leaving the last mm with the big diameter that way after you put the first edge you are able to come back with the bigger wheel to thin down your edge.
Once that’s done get back to the small wheel and finish grinding and going up the grits of the full hollow.
Be careful never to get past the edge or you will ruin the geometry.
