- Terence the Tortoise comes to visit! Let's paint a watercolor and pen and ink land turtle just for fun! This is my painting for Day 2 of #worldwatercolormonth2024. About my brushes
I have always bought my favorite brushes from Drawell direct from Japan. They are handmade in Japan. Drawell will ship readily to anywhere in the world. Turtles are aquatic. Tortoises live on land.
We have 2 tortoises living in our backyard. Since it’s winter here, our garden looks like a jungle. They love eating hibiscus flowers, so I think I’ll try to draw them in their own setting.
Diane, you and your tutorials made me believe that I can draw! :)

When I was a child, a long time ago, we had a very large tortoise as a pet. My dad brought him home from the pub. Sadly the nasty kids next door dropped a rock over the fence and broke his shell and he died. I still remember him quite clearly.

We are also Breaking Bad fans. We rewatch occasionally and have our favorite episodes and characters. Here in Montana we do have turtles, and many have very beautiful shells. Native Americans have spiritual connections with them noting a particular number in the shell design which I can’t think of off the top of my head. Love the hint of a smile on his face and the colors you chose for him along with the soft background. Your line work is wonderfully well done adding definition and detail. Thanks. ❤

Here in the United States we understand that a tortoise is a land animal and a turtle requires water in their habitat

Oh my, he is darling! I tried drawing him but much harder than it looks. I can't seem to get the curvatures right on the shell. Oh well. You did a great job. Love the soft colors.

Nop, no native tortoises in Australia, only in wild life parks - maybe, don’t know for sure. We always had tortoises when we lived in the UK they would hibernate in the compost heap, emerge in the spring and munch just about anything. Great job on your painting👌👌
Thanks Jane, I thought I had heard that there were no tortoises in Australia so thanks for the confirmation! They were a popular pet when I was a child, and likewise we used to help them to hibernate in a box in the winter. Happy days!

What if one is on the Google plan? Quit it and join Patreon? By the way, it is my understanding that turtles go in the water, and tortoises are land animals only.
That was my understanding too. But it seems that in America a lot of people call tortoises turtles. And yes, if you want the additional benefits that we can’t offer on TH-cam, you have the option of switching from TH-cam membership to Patreon membership.
