I heard so many stories about dogs starved to death after their owners died. They refused to eat and nobody could force them to eat so they had IV treatment but it can sustain their lives only limited time. They simply starved to death....
A soul mate is simply two souls that mate :)
All craving and grasping leads to suffering. Any true 'soul mate' relationships would have transcended this clinging with the two entities enjoying each other's company like rainbows meeting in the sky.

I think about my future Hyacinth macaw a lot and settled on what her name will be, Skye. I chose for how nice it sounds, the feel of it and its many etymologies. I really hope that we are soulmates. I am teaching myself telepathy to explore how we might communicate more effectively as it is far easier to think in a language than it is to speak it. It's wonderful that telepathy has been proven to be real by psychologists.
but there's something called twin flame... twin flame is the ultimate soul mate....

I left for 6 weeks to be with a guy that wasn't my soulmate, while I was gone my13-year old cat became ill.She lost lots of weight,wouldn't clean herself,her thyroid was malfunctioning and her heart enlarged to a dangerous level.She died within 6 months of my return.When I finally held her again,she trembled in my arms for 15 minutes.I found her tiny body one morning,I cried more than I've ever cried,& I painted a picture of her there in the darkness of dawn,using tears mixed into the paint.

I found my soulmate 7 years when I was 16. We have a beautiful 4 year old son and were having problems right now and I pray everynite that he and I will have another chance. I wanted to add, sometimes when you run into someone that is a soul mate, it's not always a bed of rose. I've had relationships with someone that is one of my soul mates, and it was meant to teach me a spiritual lesson. I do agree that people that do have a huge misconception that a soul mate means a life partner.

@Dianep7 I will tell you what helped me. I had a small closet in my house and I used to create a small Altar with Jesus Crist and a battery candle... I brought to this tiny walkin closet many stuff that my husband loved even his dirty tshirt, his racket ball, his water cologne.... Every day I visit the place and prayed and cried but when I left the closet I was feeling ok... it was like I was with him ..but outside life continues..until one night

+Diane Bingham Well that's the conclusion I reached after reading Dr.Brian Weiss's books on past life regression @ one can have several soul mates over a period of time. They are not necessarily lovers, they are simply souls with a strong bond that might have traveled together over several births n hence the feeling of familiarity n instant closeness when you meet certain people.

Does it count as a soul mate if the other understands the way I feel but doesn't seem to feel it at the same time that I do? Is there something that connects souls deeper than just the feelings that were described (not eating, crying etc in their absence)? I have felt these emotions for someone many times but feel like the other person doesn't feel the same way when we're apart. How does limitless compassion for all beings compare to the soul mate experience?
