I had the original King Hiss figure as a kid. This new one is really nicely done. I like the extra articulation. Really cool figure. But Rattlor is my favorite 🙂
The original King Hiss was one of my favorite MOTU figures growing up. This one, the only nitpick I'd have, just like you mentioned, perhaps the brighter color scheme; but honestly (at least as captured by your camera) doesn't seem too bad (like I thought was the case with Man-E-Faces to a certain degree or quite considerably with Leech, for instance). I also find the articulation added quite an improvement from the vintage one; too bad, as you mentioned, they didn't add articulation to the snake mouths but surely that was to keep this figure's production cost effective.
I totally agree. It's only the torso I find mildly disappointing (the body snakes a rather lost on this one) but overall I think it's a better better figure, the original never really did it for me.
@@pjgathergood6987 Out of all the Snakemen, Hiss probably translated into Origins the best; while he sort of lost his gimmick as well, he at least comes out better for it on the account of no longer having those goofy little noodle arms out of his human disguise.
I'm glad you're reviewing these again, Dan. I think this is a huge improvement on the vintage figure but sadly King Hiss has always been a goofy figure so we just have to accept him for what he is 😆
Im happy with how they handled the gimmick of King Hiss in Origins. I had the original (And the Motuc version, which broke during a fall and got scrounged for custom parts) I was wondering if they were going to keep the old shell version or do something along the lines of how they did this
I'm not a customizer, but I'm pretty sure a black or green wash would tone the yellow down and bring out the details. Probably should have ben sold that way. Even if it wasn't applied significantly or constantly that would look better.
while it does *look* better in snake mode - there is absolutely no "action feature" here...every kid collecting Origins with this figure "hang on while I take 2 minutes to unplug the arms, torso and head and plug in a new torso, arms, and head - bet ya didn't see THAT coming! Surprise surprise!" The loss of the actual feature ruins the whole surprise attack element of this figure, which of course, is the entire *point* of this figure.
I always felt the snake head on the weapon should be facing out toward his enemies not in toward him. I like the fact the armor is soft plastic so I can just swap in when I make Prince Adam in Snakeman uniform from Eternia War
You can make it face outwards. Just stick the thumb in first while facing it forward, then clip it into the hand. You can go on my page and check out my origins display and pause it on Rattlor and see how I did it. Hope this helps.
It is a little weird how bright MOTUO figures tend to be compared to their vintage originals. Just look at Evil-Lyn and her dayglow yellow skin instead of orange. I feel like the designers think the old figures got darker with age and are using their childhood memories of the line being brighter to over compensate.
I wish the snake form matched the colour of his gloves, like the vintage figure. It should be more of a tan or brown, not bright yellow. Aside from that, this is an excellent figure, his human form is a massive upgrade from the old toy.
I’d have to personally disagree, 200X’s design for King Hsss looks way more imposing. I just love how they made him look like a pharaoh, which you know, not a bad aesthetic to go with for an evil king from the ancient past with a snake motif.
I’ve always like the concept for King Hiss, it’s a cool idea, but I just never like how it works out in toy form for some reason? I guess “made of snakes” is too complex a visual for a static action figure for me…
I love the articulation & interchangeable parts. Much better than the original design. And this snake form looks much better than the original especially in size. But I agree I prefer the tan color to the snakes than the bright yellow. And I’ve always liked his human form look as well
I’m gonna have to agree with Dan about the color too bright yellow and the size being too big… I guess I prefer my vintage figure over this design… but the rest of it is still awesome.
This is going to be a tough call for me on how to display.... maybe just have his armor draping so it looks like he shed it off... gah! Forget it. I'm going to have to get two. 😄
King Hiss was a favorite as a kid. Somehow He-Man always got fooled every time :) That armor overlay is a little questionable, seems like it might not be very durable. But everything else about the execution seems great. Now anybody can be a snake!
So when you were a kid did you pretend the human look of King Hiss was just a costume? I pretended it was organic and that he literally shed off like a snake to reveal his other form. Also I decided that Hiss didn’t really wear the human skin to disguise himself and again I thought the change should be more organic and therefore more gross. Hiss to me would be human while in a more relaxed state like at his base plotting and then when going to battle or just because his got angry he would trigger the change into his snake form making hIm much more deadly and aggressive.
Non-articulating snake mouths is the problem with the snake form attachments. Once again Mattel stops short of awing collectors. That's a simple thing that makes a huge difference.
Love the look of this guy! I never had the vintage King Hiss, so there's no nostalgia for me really, I just love any snake or reptile themed character/figure. Mine is currently sitting in my pile of loot at BBTS, I'm waiting on a few more to hit before I pull the trigger. So... question for you Pixel Dan, or anyone else who can help here... how does the yellow on the snake form of King Hiss here compare to the Pighead figure's legs? I have an extra Pighead that I was going to customize, but now I'm thinking I could use his lower half for the snake version of King Hiss so I can have both versions without having to buy two of deluxe figure (higher price point and all). Are the colors close enough? Just curious, thanks!
Origins King Hiss imho is considerably better than all iterations of this character especially vintage it just looked so off when you remove the armor. I just felt he was poorly designed. Origins at least with the arms especially makes much more sense to me anyway.
I don't like that soft armour. I didn't open any of my MOTU Origins figures, so I don't know how it feels under fingers or whatever it's fragile and easy to break, but I wish it's a harder plastic
I confess King Hiss has always been a character I've never much cared for - partly because I never thought he looked "iconic" enough to be a faction leader (with He-Man, Skeletor, Hordak etc., you kinda look and know straight away what they "are"), and as you rightly point out at 6:19 Dan it's always been hard to realise Hiss's concept in toy form. The vintage figure I always felt looked a bit too goofy and like a statue (due to the play feature); so after being disappointed on Origin's skipping over original action features with the likes of Kobra Khan and Rattlor, mostly I LOVE what they've done with King Hiss. It finally brings the character to 'life'. It's a shame they've gone the whole strap-like way to do up his torso cover, the really spoils the look IMO, they'd have been much better going with a clip as with vintage Jitsu, Mekaneck's armor, etc. The snake form mostly looks really good, but the torso lets it down; the extra "side snakes" are lost in it all and they'd have been better doing them like the vintage figure. At least some extra paint decals or even a light wash would have brought them out a bit. Woulda been nice to see the big snake head with an articulated jaw but I guess that would push cost up. Despite those niggles it's still the first time I've particularly liked a King Hiss figure; Will likely pick this one up when I see it at the right price. BTW Dan, I like when comparison time compares all different versions, especially with the likes of Hiss who was realised quite differently in 200x (and to extent, Classics). Jus' sayin'! 😁
Great figure! The yellow is too bright though. Best looking human form so far, the classics one was good but his bulky Armor and weird leg articulation was off putting
I disagree I don't see him " goofy" I say he just great 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 @ least you got one I've been looking for him but so far nada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😫😖😖😖😖😖😣😣😣😣😩😩😩😩😩😩
I absolutely hate it. There are so many awesome gimmicks in MotU and I was really hoping when this line started that they’d do better about trying to recreate them…but we get crap like this.
I absolutely hate your comment. There are so many kidult man babies crying about origins not being vintage when vintage are still available. 😂😂😂😂. But we get crap comments like yours.
Hated the Original as a kid. That stupid armor that came off an teensy weird snake guy inside....I remember trading him for another Buzz Off , even tho I had two already 🙄

I think the yellow looks great. I think this is a massive upgrade from the vintage version
I think this King Hiss is way more appealing than the original. Everything about it....the stance, the arms and the proportioned head.
I totally agree. It's only the torso I find mildly disappointing (the body snakes a rather lost on this one) but overall I think it's a better better figure, the original never really did it for me.

Huge Improvement over the Vintage one ⭐️

Vintage King hiss’ head always reminds me of Paul Dano, I’m glad its still carried over
Great looking Tulsa Doom figure.
I'm not a customizer, but I'm pretty sure a black or green wash would tone the yellow down and bring out the details. Probably should have ben sold that way. Even if it wasn't applied significantly or constantly that would look better.
Woohoo! My all-time favorite MOTU character and toy, can't wait to get mine. I love the Snake Men and Hiss is just awesome.
I absolutely love this line! Great review as always. If you haven’t seen Mr Home Arcade’s videos with the origins, you are missing out!
How did the MOTU line from the 80’s have better paint apps than these new figures?
while it does *look* better in snake mode - there is absolutely no "action feature" here...every kid collecting Origins with this figure "hang on while I take 2 minutes to unplug the arms, torso and head and plug in a new torso, arms, and head - bet ya didn't see THAT coming! I hope we get the Snakemen army builder from classics in that 4 pack that got leaked. I know that the snake trooper are two waves away.
You forgot to do a comparison with the Origins and Classics figure

6:21 that‘s why I‘m waiting eagerly for a Tweeterhead Legends version of him. 😁
How is everyone getting this and Thunder Punch He-Man already? Every website pre-order pushed them back from November 2022 to February 2023.
Silly-looking? Its MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. That is how the line works and I love it.
I wish the snake form matched the colour of his gloves, like the vintage figure. It should be more of a tan or brown, not bright yellow. Aside from that, this is an excellent figure, his human form is a massive upgrade from the old toy.

Great review to end the year! Looking forward to mine arriving in January sometime!!! Happy New Year and Good Journey!
I love the articulation & interchangeable parts. Much better than the original design. And this snake form looks much better than the original especially in size. But I agree I prefer the tan color to the snakes than the bright yellow. And I’ve always liked his human form look as well
My Hiss and TP He-Man arrived this morning
I really do not think he looks goofy in his snake form, it is way better than the original to me.
Snakeform looks supersilly with those huge arms
Happy New Year !
King Hiss is my second favorite snakemen design
Great figure overall ✔️
Thanks for an awesome review, happy New Year everyone!!! 🎉
I love how bright and goofy he is!
We need them to show up in stores.
I have seen 2 so far at the physical store of @Target
Why are the snake staff heads pointing toward the wielder? Strange design choice they could’ve rectified
Awesome 😊 happy New year
I’m gonna have to agree with Dan about the color too bright yellow and the size being too big… I guess I prefer my vintage figure over this design… but the rest of it is still awesome.

Has anyone seen these Snake Men figures at retail?
Thanks for the review! Best King Hiss figure ever!!!
I hope I can find this. Still looking for a Mantena.
IMO the worst execution was the 2000 version with the flip up human form.
HISS Looks great. Cant wait for mine.
King Hiss was a favorite as a kid. Somehow He-Man always got fooled every time :) That armor overlay is a little questionable, seems like it might not be very durable. But everything else about the execution seems great. Now anybody can be a snake!
Love the figure, but I just think of corn with his color and patterning.
Hopefully it won't be an Exclusion (Exclusive), it's an improvement on the sarcophagus vintage version.
I think this is the first time I've liked the toy form of the snake body. I actually find his human face to be a bit goofy.
It looks like corn or tdk from suicide, squad two
So when you were a kid did you pretend the human look of King Hiss was just a costume? I pretended it was organic and that he literally shed off like a snake to reveal his other form.

I Agree with you 100% on this Review (DAN)....Awesome Fig....Can't wait to get mine :)
just picked one up on amazon very affordable
Non-articulating snake mouths is the problem with the snake form attachments. Once again Mattel stops short of awing collectors. That's a simple thing that makes a huge difference.
This King Hsss is the best!
As always great review
Would you have chosen Ghostbuster, Transformers or TMNT to make the last video of the year 2022, that next year 2023 will be better greetings 💪🏻🇦🇷
Mekaneck and the Ground Ripper huh?...Since when did mini-comics come with vehicles? lol
My king hiss is in loose but I am taking care of my masters of the universe that he is in perfect condition : no scratches 👍😊
The origin line will never be worth anything ,,,it went to retail, the toys are worthless
This is an upgrade from the original figure for sure.

Still have my original one. It's great. The way the body shell is opened... Origins one can't beat that.
I don’t think motu figures are being shipped to the uk anymore
Origins King Hiss imho is considerably better than all iterations of this character especially vintage it just looked so off when you remove the armor. I just felt he was poorly designed. Origins at least with the arms especially makes much more sense to me anyway.
My favorite snake man is furytongue, right ? 👍

He was king piss in new Mexico
Imagine he vs Serpentor... Then Cobra Khan vs Cobra Commander.... Lol

I'm disappointed! Poor King Hiss!
Brutal hiss
I might give mine a black wash to make the details pop and to break up all that yellow a little bit.
I paid $18 for this and I’m not even gonna tell you the shipping. 😂 😒
barbaro and snakes
🤘😎
One of the best figures in origins line....
lookout serpentor lol
No sir, I do not like it.
Good for you
@@masonj4779 thank you so much. That’s very nice of you. Happy New Year! 🎆
I feel like this guy is just begging for a brown wash.
He's no original Moss Man. Lol.
SNAKE TEELA. I hate the idea of turning characters into SNAKE MEN. Hopefully they will not bring back that stupid idea. Not for me.
Hated the Original as a kid. That stupid armor that came off an teensy weird snake guy inside....I remember trading him for another Buzz Off , even tho I had two already 🙄
He’s got the 40 inch pythons brother!
