I got a box Palma and it’s amazing. For someone who is an avid library user, wants something small, and customizable… this device is for me. It may not be for everyone. I don’t want to be stuck in the Amazon ecosystem and I also need something smaller.
On caveat on the battery life - The more you use this device like a tablet (think of it as an iPod Touch, but running Android and focused on books/documents instead of music/videos), the more the battery will drain like a tablet. This isn't a negative, especially if you're looking to cut back on your screen time and app usage. I've set my Palma to turn off wi-fi and Bluetooth whenever I've put the device to sleep, which makes a big difference on battery life.
I like Amazon Kindle and using it in bathroom. Actually , I haven't been interested in these kind of E-ink Android devices before I watch this video . But I'm thinking that big e-ink eye-friendlly screen , looks is cool and being able to use many reader-apps more than kindle is great. Honestly , I wanna try it now.
Yeah I wonder why other brands don’t just put android in their devices! Maybe it needs more power/CPU but it definitely opens up more possibilities for users to discover how it can fit into their lives.
message/call is just an I app but they need to add more hardware to be able to able to use cellular. Sounds like a lot of people in the comments wanted cellular but I would rather have a cheaper non-cellular that I can just tether or use wifi with. or maybe they should have made both versions!
@@YukaOhishi Issue is with banking apps. We need to use same number as we use with bank account. So at least they could have different version of same phone, like max version with 7 inch and cellular connectivity. Or they use max version without sim and this one with sim. It is really good compromise between dumb and smart phone.
I had to return my Palma because of some software bugs and slight ghosting. Is your Palma Display good? Otherwise i loved the device and probably will buy a new one.
what a great chance they missed... I just want an e-ink black and white phone without social media, that I can only install apps like whatsapp and telegram on. I don't use imessage, sms, etc. like any American. All of Europe uses whatsapp, signal, telegram. Is it so hard to see this fact?
Black and white e-ink phones already exist! Just look it up. No, it doesn't need to be a phone. It's a small e-reader, which is exactly what many people want. How can you say they missed a chance when you don't even realize the apps you mentioned can be installed on things that aren't phones, including the Palma? If it's an android app, it can be installed. Please do just a little research.
So it's not dumb, it's not a phone, it doesn't take pictures well, and it's less functional as an ebook reader than almost any other ebook reader. So who is this for? If it took a sim card and could make calls this would be a great phone. But as a stand alone ebook tablet: it's just one more thing to carry in your pocket. I mean it sounds like they're trying to pitch it as a pocket-sized ebook reader that you can just take with you? Which is a cool idea but the problem is, without a sim card that just makes this one more thing you have to carry in your pocket.
Exactly, I would daily this device to keep my screen time to minimal if it had a sim card. But if I had to carry my smartphone around to keep it functional, it kinda takes away the entire point of having it. I am looking forward to have an iteration of the device that can work standalone to finally ditch my smartphone.
Its for people like me. I dont want to carrie a kindle in my pocket. But like to read on the train or bus. Happy to have this next to my iPhone. To read books, news and tech stuff. Also having it like a calendar and clock on my desk when I’m at home. And using it to ssh into linux systems and do admin stuff having it with my phone is my ultimate cyber deck. Adding a portable foldable keaybord touchpad to it. And I have a full on call system in my pockets. With great battery life. Not hours, days of battery life. Lets root it and use it to even more fun stuff! Maybe the next version will even have a sim card maybe I also will buy that. Its for people like me.
kinda misleading title, it's not a phone at all, no sim slot (I know you mention it at 0:45 ). If a sim would be included, I'd be their first customer, but like this it's an phone-sized ereader, which is meaningless imho.

yesss! I really like that I can install any app and not get stuck in an ecosystem.
Just got mine so I’m very excited to read and discover just what it can do so thanks for the overview you’ve given me lots to think about
The boox Palma and my pocket books are everyday constant companions. Greetings from Costa Rica
That thumbnail though 🙌✨
Thanks! It’s actually a still from a video but I think it turned out nice!
@@YukaOhishi it most definitely did 💯🥳

I respect that👍

Ok. Fits my bag. So I can leave my big kindle and just have this instead.
Exactly!
Good one! Thank you for the review,
Thanks for watching😊
I love it.
If they added a Sim card and basic message / call function this would be a hit lol

Oh no! My display is good so far! For ghosting, it doesn’t happen but when I do a full refresh on the left button it goes away.
@@YukaOhishi thank you that helps a lot

all of the world uses whatsapp except america but this phone was build there with just american users in mind such a shame

Hi, what Android version is this and how is it running Google Gemini?
It's Android 11 but it's running Gemini. The chip seems to be able to handle it!
