I remember driving by a bunch of those VWs in Colorado on my way to Denver. Last time I drove that route they were gone, I wondered what they did with them. Imagine if VW had invested that 35 billion in EV development instead of paying fines for cheating. They would be in a much better position today.

With Tesla demonstrating that even its brand-spanking-new LFP megapacks aren't immune to thermal runaway in Australia yesterday, forcing a whole town to stay indoors with doors and windows closed to limit exposure to toxic megapack fumes, many components of which have as-of-yet-unknown safety data sheet properties. I wouldn't be surprised if many government decided to roll back their EV incentives due to EV fires being exceedingly toxic and still impossible to extinguish.

A couple of years ago, these (diesel) emissions made me upgrade the interior/cabin air filter to a hepa/activated carbon type. The difference is very large; i strongly recommend it to everyone driving around in heavy (city) traffic. The amount of polution from accelerating cars, vans, light trucks, etc. is insane. Take care of your health and change to a high quality cabin air filter!

      @stefan2796 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@adamesd3699 There are several brands with a focus on filter products.
I would opt for a well known/"A" brand and for an activated carbon type of filter. Just HEPA quality doesn't prevent bad fumes/gasses entering the cabin (personal experience). But HEPA quality is always (much) better than the standard cabin air filters most workshops use to replace the old one.
Personally i prefer Mann, but (for example) Stark or Meyle could also do the job.
Replace the filter every 9-12 months (you will notice when the activated carbon is completely consumed). Changing the cabin air filter is not a lot of work.

The reason VWs and Audi cars were worth a lot less than new ones is that they are not very reliable. After about 60-100k, the plastic hoses and connectors become very brittle and easy to break. And that is just the connectors. It is a shame really because diesel engines can last longer than gasoline engines. But the scandal was a big mess. I think there were and are political implications for Germany-US trade relations.

Funny that you talk about graveyards or salvage yards. Salvage yards here in the USA won't take any teslas. They are too much of a fire risk. one salvage yard owner took a tesla and a few days later it started a huge fire that the local fire department couldn't put out. When it finally burned out, it restarted the next day. The fire department forced him to dig a hole and bury it after that. Fire departments will now charge thousands of dollars if they have to go to a junk yard to put out a Tesla fire.

    • @casperhansen826

Hi Sam, greetings from the U.K. Terrible waste, as other commenters have stated, so many people could benefit from these vehicles; which whilst not perfect, would be a big improvement over much older diesels out there still running and polluting. VW has lost the plot since the turn of the century, 1990’s VW cars were the cream of the crop. VW forgot that they are an engineering company, and became lead by accountants and marketers. The result is disastrous!

Nice speach, but e.g. Swiss customers after a lately published law suit information even do not get any refund being cheated by Volkswagen group. Even worse I used to be in PE/OE in 1994 and asked the heads of German Education Responsibles of Industry and Universities/Highschools 7 questions on 8 systems qualities. At Volkswagen 3 out of 8 qualities had really bad figures. So we warned the company that they will have a real problem becoming more and more obvious in coming years. 1994 was long before Dieselgate as a culmination point of an internal value problem caused mainly by the families Porsche/Piëch and since the early days of VAG. After war a long range of string puppets had to run the company but the structures never changed. Even when the initial Beatle started to fail and the future of the company was not so sure. Then famous cost cutters came into play to only make the products as good as necessary and more and more adressing ‚believers‘. Few years they had a high run and made many acquisitions because also of governments support and quality of German workers and engineers. With the pressure however more and more rental workers from the east fixed the cars and engineering had more and more different problems they could mainly hide thanks to media influence and corruption. In the meantime other manufacturers got more and more competitive products, some had even better products. So Volkswagen wanted to stay on top everywhere at any price, also the truth about reality. They lost what we call relationship truth and functional justice as a non grounded management asked for the impossible up to the point where tier one suppliers like BOSCH and engineers in house of VW, Audi mainly responsible for engines lost personal integrity. That Renault supplying engines also to Mercedes used the same tricks seems for me clearly stem from cooperation with BOSCH as they would not have shared such issues with VAG directly. Also BOSCH in many occasions seems more interested in business and control of markets than in truth about realities so that fitted well together for cheating the authorities and ALL other serious players that also lost their markets! Punish some string puppets and pay fines however is not enough and for no company anywhere. Stellantis/PSA had e.g. as the first company ‚clean‘ Diesels according to the rules but they were expensive so they have also been punished by misbehavior of an unfair competitor. This must have more severe consequences than for just individuals and keep in mind that all those managers got millions for not doing the job towards the LIFE of as many as possible but just to keep the job long enough before being fired!🤔🤥😵‍💫🤮

China (and other countries) will just dump ICE cars here because even after our emission standards come into effect, they are inadequate. Inaction by successive Australian governments has made Australia the ICE dumping ground of the world - another reason why we don't get a wide range of electric vehicles here (ie they would rather get rid of their ICE vehicles that they can't sell elsewhere due to emissions standards practically everywhere else).

I say auction them all off, get approval for use, the health department can help aprove as tested as like new or not drivable, nobody makes those anymore anyways. People could use a car for a few grand plus shipping.

It’s no human right that anybody must have a car to drive around. It just makes no sense to sell cars that poison us ALL. It would be killing ourselves and even Africa and Australia must get rid of that dirty technology. The companies however must recycle all that crap laying around because also that polluted our environment. Also China will pay a high price for their EV graveyard and also it’s real cause. Also there the ressources must be recycled at any price! We owe that to our children and next generations!

I think all those cars that are not going to be sold I have no need for them to be over here they should be turned over to a shredding place and then shredded 100%. And although shredding should be given to Elon musk to turn into cars that we would actually drive.... Or some day maybe fly

@0:20 _rusting away?_ They're in the driest desert on this continent.
They take years and years to develop any rust.
The window seals will crack and fall away letting the dust blow in before there's any rust.

For these to be responsible for last 10yr "rise" in cancer. These vehicle's would have to be worse polluters than those that came before them.Think you'll find thats not the case. There the same polluters as those before them.

How much more polluting to the environment was this solution than simply allowing the vehicles to keep running with their increased emissions? They could have put all the wasted money towards airborne particulate related health issues. Dumb dumb dumb.

Breaking the max legal pollution limit by up to 400% each car so across the world they should have been taken off all roads and scrapped immediately with far more fines and criminal company broken-up and sold off as their actions 2006-2020 was deliberate. Biggest industrial crooks the world has ever seen.
