Watch 8, Seller 2. That is pretty much a fair assessment of this one. The Cooper does what it sets out to do and feels like it will last a decade or more to match the battery. The seller? Not the best experience I've had on Ali, put it that way. Cheers, Jody

Extra awkward is when they usually begin their reviews stating that they may have gotten the watch for free but that their opinions are aaabsolutely unbiased. As if that guarantee makes much of a difference.
In some reviewers defense (myself included) growing a youtube channel is expensive. Getting freebies is such a financial relief for many cash strapped smaller channels that it can't be resisted. I was well aware freebies can stir jealousy, so make sure I say what I see. I've lost continued relationships due to being honest about a product. Hope that helps. 🙏
@watchmewithwatches Absolutely. But pointing out one's objectivity and unbiasedness is pointless. Just state that you got the watch for free, and get on with the review. As long as the review sounds fair and honest, all should be well.

Aliexpress has generally been good to me, but when it came to my most expensive purchase, San Martin gave me a pretty terrible after sale experience after sending me something different to what I ordered
I've heard a lot of people complaining about getting the wrong order for Cooper/Qimei watches. I guess I got lucky, I ordered the Qimei "Vietnam trooper" watch with the Seiko VH31 movement. I must say, the watch hasn't left my wrist in months. I guess it's hit or miss.
I always wonder on these "off-off-brand" watches if one can really trust the water resistance claims? 300m seems to be a LITTLE more difficult to achieve than a $100 watch should be able to easily pull off(?)
Most base their rating on the o-ring size and screw case threads and just assume everything else will hold. It's not as if they're actually testing/certifying them. It's a fair assumption (provided, of course, their manufacturing tolerances are decent) but the part one should be worried of is the crown gasket, not the case-back. I'm very skeptical any of those will hold more than 10 bar without a screw-down crown.
Going by the hydraulic press channel, if a Vostok built with the old Soviet machines can withstand, what was it, 500m+ in practice (at least for a short period) I'd assume a watch made with modern tech should do 200m. Or at least be reliable in the pool because let's no kid ourselves.
@@Alias_Anybody There is a big difference in testing for WR in a lab under static, gradual pressure increase in close to ambient-temperature water until it fails vs. repeatedly submerging a watch into the sea (dynamic pressure, thermal shock, density difference etc.) and actually using it for a prolonged period of time to tell the time. Most watches rated at 20+ ATM would not be able to withstand daily use for diving to such depths, but then again most humans couldn't either. I would not rely on anything without a screw-down crown from a reputable manufacturer, and with regular service intervals, even for recreational, ~40ish m dives, let alone something more challenging.

Dynamic pressure and temperature differences HUMANS can withstand are pretty minor for a watch compared to the static pressure. Long Island Watches did some calculations a while ago.
If it withstands 20 bar the only thing you'll ever have to worry about are unscrewed crowns and material degradation.

These watches have been around for at least 4 years. I originally bought one from a seller on FB identifying as the Owner of the company. Nothing but issues. A year later a company in China was dumping these on the market for less but most were QC rejects. Every contact with the groups selliing these back then (that I know of back in the day) were bad. They sold on eBay forever and then disappeared. Sad to see all of the same selling nonsense going on with the current sellers. Glad you at least got a working one!
I remember exchanging a few messages with the “owner” from Facebook posts (I’m in the U.K. as was he). He left me feeling something was a little off and I didn’t order one. But I recall the price being quite high for such a generic watch.

Yes, you’re right. It’s based on a CWC SBS Diver. The only CWC that is still an actively issued watch from this 50 year old company.
I got one of these when advertised for $59 AUD and it was delivered quickly and without problems. For the price it is brilliant. For the full price I would probably still buy it now I've seen it.
That's a 'monin case', no where else being homaged. I got the QM version a year ago, or so. ... and the crown was too small while the crown guards where up too high. Bezel action was terrible. BUT the lume was actually impressive!!

AliExpress stole $340 from me. Long story short I ordered a San Martin to my home in New York. Four months later it still hadn’t arrived. I went through the awful customer support process and they closed the case before ever giving me a refund. I had to get my money back by telling my credit card company that I never got what I ordered. Will never buy from AliExpress again
I will recommend all people in VOEC countries to stay away from AliExpress. My last two orders haven’t been labeled with the VOEC number, resulting in double taxation. Actually more, because the total sum of the goods specified on the package included the pre paid tax. So tax upon tax, and a 15$ fee on top of that.
The seller is responsible for refunding the pre paid tax, but if you even manage to get through to their “expert team” and send all documentation they ask for, they will simply claim the documentation is incomplete and close the case. They won’t even tell you what they need, or giving you any chance of replying
Aliexpress is pretty decent for postage, even when it's free you get informed of progress every step of the way, something you don't get with the Royal Mail when you pay for extra service on delivery.
I'd love to know more about just how durable people find their pvd coated watches. I've stayed away so far, since gold plating I know to wear off. But PVD is supposed to be more resistant. But is it? And if so, how much? And if you'd apply a hardening coating on top, would that also effectively protect the PVD layer?

Hi Jody, I have had a couple of these Cooper/Quimei watches from other sources, I really wanted the look of the CWC Navy diver but could not afford the real deal, These just did not cut it for me with their mineral crystals so got moved on, The best I have found which has now satisfied my wanting this military look with cost in mind and sapphire and decent build quality is an MWC, it cost around £240 so much dearer but it has not been off my wrist, I really recommend it.
so why did you not just replace the crystal with a sapphire, which only cost around £5 ?

Two of my old mates from the TA, joined the Marines, and then went on to the SBS.
I had a similar experience with the Heimdallr Official Watch Store for a Baltany watch last 11/11 sale. They lied about shipping the product first time, when I complained to AE that 14 days past and the item was never tendered to the shipping company the next day something shipped (it sure was not a watch) It was a hideous cloth strap with a short note saying they ran out of stock and I needed to contact AE to request a full refund. I got the refund but they still showed that same Baltany watch in stock the entire time after I purchased it.
AliEx would help themselves if they changed some policies, like something is not considered shipped until the carrier picks it up and if their ratings were more transparent. That store has a high rating but when you read the store's reviews they were full of the customer gripes of the garbage I experienced.
Honestly, if you (Not Jodie specifically) are going to buy a CWC clone... You deserv some headache! Support the real deal. CWC is a great company.

The Casio Duro would be another one to recommend in this price and style.
The aliexpress choice sale is wild right now, I bought a pagani world time bezel GMT for like 90USD. The one you featured with the Seiko NH34 movement, I'm confused how they are even selling it so cheap, I got the watch yesterday so its not a scam
Jody - they did exactly the same to me - I ordered one directly after your original video and they cancelled it a couple of days later saying they could
not supply the watch. All went quiet for a week then I messaged them as to when I was going to get my refund. They sent me a pic of an orange dialled bead blasted one so I said send that instead. I ended up paying 67 AU$ which is a bargain even if it wasn't the colour I really wanted
Thanks for this great and timely, follow-up review, Jody! I was one of the people that tried to grab up this watch based on your pre-sale review, and for some reason, immediately falling in love with the particular case shape and aesthetic (probably my first watch purchase ever that was based nearly entirely on appearance alone). I put it in my cart, and waited for the sale to start, and... was very disappointed when the price spiked at that time.
However, I kept it in my 'short' wish list, and kept an eye on it. And, what do you know, twenty days ago it came up on sale again at that price (€ 42,89 in EU, including VAT), and I ordered it immediately with the Cooper branding, bead blast case, gladiator hands, as in your original review. There was... substantial... wonkery with Qimei communicating unclearly, making me think the price listing was somehow a mistake on the part of AliExpress, and that the watch wouldn't be shipped, which did leave me wondering if this all was indeed some cynical ploy on their part to game the system in some way. It might be. However, the watch did ship. And it arrived four days ago. And it was the correct watch. At the advertised price.
My packaging was identical, aside that the faux carbon fiber earbud case was sterile, which is kind of a shame, the Cooper logo would have been cool, but whatever. The provided NATO strap is... adequate... to the task of holding the watch on your wrist, ideally for exactly as long as it takes to replace it with something of better quality. Which is actually just fine with me, as certainly at this price point I'd rather the cost go into the watch itself, not the strap. The second hand alignment to the minute markers on my dial is... adequate. The bezel was kind of loose and wobbly and sloppy, with a fair bit of back play, and the bezel insert was misaligned by approximately half a minute, enough to notice. With some judicious applications of heat and pressure to the insert, and dental floss to the bezel, both those complaints have been... adequately... fixed. For the price I paid, which wasn't much, such quality issues should not be unexpected, or really, unacceptable.
All that said, I still have the watch on my wish list, as, at that price, I'd like to also get the Cooper branded PVD case with plongeur hand set, which in theory would allow me to mix and match with case/movement-dial swaps between them, to have any of the four variations. So, make of all that what you will, but the watch, to me, inhabits a very strange price point. On the one hand, if you can get it at the "killer deal" price, it's just that, a killer deal. However, I'd be VERY hard pressed to justify paying any particularly higher price for it, considering there's considerably better spec'd options out there in the more common seeming ~€ 100 range they're typically asking.
For me, this watch is either a killer deal, or no deal. But it's certainly been a hell of a ride.
Jody I got one for that low price posted to me in Sydney about 6 weeks ago. Been a pretty good watch except the bezel action is a bit crunchy in spots.

I bought the same Cooper watch after watching your video a month or so ago and paid £38 with tax and shipping around aus$71 and it arrived really quickly and I love it, the day after I bought it I noticed that the price had doubled! But I have no regrets at the price I paid, Im actually wearing it today :)
I bought this watch just before sale, it was on special deal sale for 39 usd. It came fairly quickly with no charge for the shipping. And when I unpacked it... It was (and still is) great! Truly five stars product, I can recommend it to everyone, even if you buy it for 100 usd. I choose one with orange minute hand, PVD coated, precise movement (+2 sec/month), quiet, solid quality feel, loom is good. Just bought few additional straps for it. I was lucky I guess! 😀👍
I ordered mine from Qimei in March for £39 (sandblasted finish with orange sword hand) and received it with no problems.

I ordered the same watch several months ago and I believe it was the same seller. They sent me the stainless NON-PVD instead of the one I ordered. They offered to let me return it for the correct one but I decided to keep it and give it to my nephew for his birthday and reorder the PVD Submaster. On the second try they did send the correct one and I've been very satisfied with my purchase. I have been a little reluctant to place another order with this seller.
This seller is a gem (sarcasm). They do bait-and-switch and for a Miyota 2115 quartz lmao. Good thing they don't ship to my country otherwise I'd been pissed.

I've bought a few watches from the Qimei watch store, and have had good experiences. I actually bought the $59 watch a day before Jody's earlier video dropped, and it arrived in the mail a couple of weeks later. All good. I also bought a Benrus type II homage (which is all the rage at the moment) from them, which is also great. These are often on sale for low $100's Aussie. They added a very nice sapphire crystal with good AR for only an extra $20. Great deal.
Ahh yes a Monnin case watch! I wish more companies would do these. I pre ordered the one Momentum makes, but it wouldn’t even ship til July so I cancelled it. Scurfa version of Monnin case are also sold out. Sad day. I do have a MWC all blacked out though 😎
I had a similar experience with the Ali sale. I tried to buy a steeldive model (4 of them) and Ali cancelled my order saying there was no stock. You are right it is

At least this is a 20mm lug width, compared to CWC's offering of 19mm. 😅
No you are wrong, the CWC diver comes with a 20mm lug width. I have had many. It is the G10s that have the 19mm lug width, despite them saying it’s 18mm.
Nice looking watch - shame about the Ali Fiasco. Unfortunately a couple of times the "too good to be true" has been hit. AliExpress can be pretty good most of the time though
This is exactly what happened to me when I ordered this watch. At first they told me I would have to wait a month for restock, then they offered me the version without “Cooper” on the dial, reluctantly I accepted a new version rather than having to wait and it was agreed by me and the seller. However, after a week my order was cancelled with no communication and I got a refund without tax. So it cost a few quid for stress and rude customer service and I never got that cool watch. Very disappointed.
Not bad for $85, but if the strap is rubbish add another $20 for a decent one and if you're going above $100 there are better options. For example, if you want a 'stealthy' black watch and you get a bit lucky, you can grab a Timex Navi XL automatic for ~$120 (that's how much I paid for mine) and I'd argue that it looks far better, plus it's an auto (Miyota 8215 only, but still), plus it actually comes with a usable leather strap.
I saw the cooper watch, at the sale price. And I looked at the ali listing, and it was at the higher price point.
My disappointments with ali are few, but they are there.
Good warning. Personally I don't especially like the look of the watch but can see the attraction of a "hey lets go to the pool/beach right now watch". My solution is a titanium Citizen eco-drive on rubber. Always ticking, washes off clean, 100m WR has lasted fine for my swimming/boogie boarding over 20 years & it weighs very little, wears great. Probably cost me around what you paid for the Cooper.
Interesting, I'd heard some scuttlebutt about some Ali vendors raising prices suddenly during the sale, but hadn't connected it to Qimei.
I actually got this watch as well, off the back of your sale rundown video. My first Ali watch, and I figured if it all went wrong at least I'd not lose out on much (money or watch-wise).
I did manage to get it at the actual sale price, not the bumped one. But then a few days after making the purchase, the seller contacted me to say they were out of stock of the dial in the listing, and could I pick another one? Having duly done so, I sat back to wait and wonder whether it'd ever reach me (aside from the vagaries of Ali itself, it also meant navigating South Africa's rapidly failing postal service).
To my surprise the watch did indeed show up... and to my further surprise, it showed up with the dial that they'd told me was out of stock. Wins all round!
I think my experience and yours might indicate that this was common or garden variety incompetence, as opposed to any nefarious intent. Just some folks really not nailing the fundamentals.
The watch itself is nice though, aside from the strap. The strap is the worst.
I have bought a lot of Aliexpress watches as well only one such experience ... Pagani once sent me the wrong watch that I ordered but in fairness quickly responded and then sent me the correct watch when I opened a dispute on Aliexpress.
Qimei also does Benrus Type I and II homages, and at one point they offered optional sapphire upgrades for them at a reasonable price. After seeing your experience with them however I don't think I'd trust them.
Would look great on a black rubber divers strap I reckon.
Jody! I bought the watch based on your video, but came back a couple of days after the sale started and did see it at a higher price. Still found it resonable at 85 usd and ordered. Got it a month later. Got the one I wanted, though you would like to know. Overall I'm happy. For me its like a mil-spec Duro.
If the strap is rubbish and you are going to chuck it in the bun, what difference does it make if the hardware is color matched?

I'd be curious to know how often folks get the wrong item shipped. I finally took the plunge and ordered my first watch from Ali a few months back and, yup, wrong watch sent. I'd ordered a sterile Hruodland and got a branded dial instead. Not a deal breaker but a bit irritating.

I had a similar problem, I put the Cooper in my cart before the sale as were supposed to and when the sale started I went to checkout it changed from $58.46 AUD to $117.69 AUD so I thought I'd leave it for a day and then it went up to $129.70 AUD and then it disappeared from my cart completely, so I didn't bother after that. I thought I'll have to wait for Jody to sell his to get it at a great price 😀
for that case shape just go with the Momentum SeaQuartz 30, unless you wanna pay up for the CWC diver. It beats buying from Ali and all these chinese knock-offs

There are some nice watches on Ali, I'm always cautious in ordering. I just don't want to spend good money on a lemon. I also don't want dozens of brands in my collection. Some red star, sea-gull, cadisen, starking, sugess, look nice. Do I bite the bullet? Or walk away cautiously?

I just tried to buy a TAG homage watch off AliExpress. Received a different watch to that selected when ordering and band clasp wont close & lock. Strap falls out of clasp. Seller denying any issues and wanted pictures and video of problem but then they say video size too large. I then tried replying to seller’s website without any video and only a few words and email was still rejected as being too large. . Sellers seem to be scammer
I tried and failed 3 times to buy this watch from the same store and also had the same price increases. They took my money on all attempts only to offer different style of the watch. I gave up and won’t be using them again. I spoke to the actual owner of cooper watches and was informed that they didn’t have them for sale from the seller anymore and that there were issues with said company.
I’ve had dealings with this vendor before. Got a saved message where he harassed me basically. Got my money back. He had some unique things to say about the actual cooper watches.
Us$88 for quartz watch?? I bought Boderry Field Watch titanium with Miyota automatic movement a week ago for us$76.
Bought my first watch from AliExpress about a month ago and have ordered another 15 or so since then. Have had a cpl of bad experiences though and Aliexpress are awful when it comes to disputes. The Skmei store are a disgrace to do business with and i would recommend any of you to stay well clear of them

I remmember having this in the cart to wait for the sale to start and when it started the price had gone up again so never got it. Think i had it in the cart for 40dollars and i think it said something like first time price but when the sale starts that was gone.
Based on a CWC diver, I've got a black SBS version and its great. Not $100 though. Cabot Watch Company

I managed to get the black PVD Cooper at 40 USD with orange hands. But the grey one they cancelled the order.
Now they are impossible to get, at least at that price. Don't know what happened. If it was a mistake or just a limited offer.
Just bad luck..i received the the pvd one i ordered for £35.it arrived in one and a half weeks to the uk and im well chuffed with it😊
One brand I won't buy from. Pagani Design. Lying buggers they are and was a nightmare getting a refund from them and some really scummy games they played. I'm convinced without your help Jody they would have jipped me.
I bought a Pagnani bond watch it came perfect. No hassles yes the straps are pretty much junk but the watch is still one of my favorites. Maybe I got lucky 🤔
What happened to Moose Strap Co.? They have been sold out of everything for a long time.
They "shipped" my order but it was eventually refunded by Aliexpress for an invalid tracking number. I messaged the store and they said it was out of stock and that they would give me a discount to buy one at the same price. Ordered again later and was told I'd get no discount but they'd throw in another strap....
CR2032 battery, same as the Ronda 715Li giving 10 years. That's why the case back is thick.

Recently purchased the sand blasted Cooper quartz, it arrived quickly, but is loosing 30 mins a week, thats outrageous for a quartz, not holding my breath for seller to replace!
That's outrageous for a quartz. Have you tried replacing the battery yourself? Might be easier that the breath hold.
