Poor Desmond was accidentally shot by a friend when they were riding around in a car. The large mausoleum was very unwelcoming. But the cemetery was amazing to wander through with you. Many thanks from Australia.
The plot with the flag. The couple buried there died the same day. He was 1923-2010, and she was 1924-2010, both December 9, 2010. It seemed he was a doctor and devoted his later life to taking care of his invalid wife. He refused to leave her side when there was a fire in their home, and they both perished.
"We're in" right along side of you Ron!! I love anything to do with cemeteries, but the old Mausoleums are SO cool. How nice of you to say some of their names again, they may not have been said in a long while. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, thanks again!
I grew up in Memphis, and now live in Chicago. Thanks for bringing me back home :) If you haven't already, I would highly recommend a trip East to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, MA. Some incredibly old headstones there going back hundreds of years. There's a section there called "Authors Ridge", and there you'll find the likes of Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau. A beautiful cemetery that's very fitting of the name Sleepy Hollow.
The young soldier Desmond--his grave touched me. So young. There's no greater honor for us Americans then for a soldier to give his life for us. Bless you Desmond.
They had the Memphis Belle bomber on display at Mud Island sometime in the mid 70s I think and I got to see it up close, those guys had balls of steel man! They have my highest respect! Thanks for the video!
I saw it on Mud Island and spoke to the veteran who stood ‘guard’ back in the late ‘90s. They were raising funds to get a building erected to protect it.
I remember that mausoleum very well I remember seeing Elvis being brought into that mausoleum after his funeral on TV in 1977. Great storytelling on Margaret Polk and the Memphis Belle ♥️♥️✝️✝️💕💕💐💐🌹🌹

Could the castle-like vault be a winter storage for the deceased to rest? Winters don’t allow for easy burial with snow and cold temps making it tough to dig. I’m from Massachsetts originally and those keeping vaults are no longer used but some are still around.
The empty mausoleum was used to keep bodies during freezes when the ground was frozen. Once tractors were used to dig the grave, this was not an issue and the vault abandoned and left to decay.

Wonderful story. I didn't know this. Thank you for doing so much research on these. I have had a stroke and have forgotten so much, I appreciate good research.
I had the great privilege & honor to see the Memphis Bell at two different Air Shows. It's nice too learn about the woman who was the real Bell. That plane did many missions & brought her guys home every time. Did you know Actor Jimmy Stewart ( it's a Wonderful Life) flew Bombers in WWII? Also very sad to see the news that a WWII fighter plane & a WWII Bomber like Memphis Bell collided in air at a Air Show recently 😢 There were No Servivors! 13 people lost their lives. The fighter plane hit the Bomber!
The Dayton Air Force Museum is amazing and massive (I'm originally from Dayton but have been living in Hawaii for almost 16 yrs now) Ive not even walked all the way thru it but I do remember seeing this one. I totally recommend a visit if your in the area. Well worth the visit! Def make sure you have at least 3 hrs as there's no way one can get all the way thru it in less time (unless u rush thru it but then u won't enjoy it as much)
@10:37 to your left, you are in the area (on the left side of the hill) where Elvis' mother (Gladys Love Smith Presley) was originally buried. There are photographs online that show Elvis visiting her on that spot. If you look you can see the cement foundation of the original statue that was eventually moved and still stands at Graceland. Elvis would visit the cemetery a lot in the 60s.
Poor Desmond was accidentally shot by a friend when they were riding around in a car. The large mausoleum was very unwelcoming. But the cemetery was amazing to wander through with you. Many thanks from Australia.

I always wondered about the Memphis Belle. Thank you taking us here. Your special trip for the young boy was such a moving story. He was so loved and his monument is beautiful.💜💞💜
I saw the "Memphis Belle" this past weekend at the National Air Force Museum in Dayton!! Looks great and the exhibit is awesome!
Very interesting story. Thanks again for another wonderful video.
I love all the videos you do. I’ve seen almost all of them, sometimes I comment other times I don’t. I must say I love reading the comments it most times adds to the story the history of personal encounters or from the areas. Thank you Ron, I wait all the time for your new videos you truly add to my day.
Love your channel, I always loved even as a child wandering through a graveyard looking for history and stories. It was always so peaceful, thanks for your journey and stories

Wonderful story. I didn't know this. Thank you for doing so much research on these. I have had a stroke and have forgotten so much, I appreciate good research.
oh gosh Debbie, I hope you feel ok....take it slow, we will be here for you! 😊
Another amazing video and adventure! Thank you for taking us along, and your attention to such great detail!
Interesting
Now that place is fairly run down. So sad.
I love Faces of the Forgotten. Please keep up the good work. Thank you.
I am glad that I found this channel!
