Hi! Just came across your channel. You seem like such sweet, loving parents and have two beautiful boys. God bless and look forward to seeing more content from you!
Theres a key important reason why Jewish people only adopt Jewish children into other Jewish families. Keeping cultural heritage during such an immense change greatly lessens the trauma and supports their identity.
Mockavel Velli thanks for sharing. As much as I think heritage/culture helps in some ways like identity, it still comes with a lot of trauma and confusion in other ways for sure (at least in our case😢). I plan to share our custody story soon.
Bear and Cubbie Ohh I thought you adopted Koreans from South Korea, and that you guys were Korean-Americans so you'd be better equipped to impart Korean culture and speak Korean to them.
Mockavel Velli haha no you are right! Luca was adopted from Korea and Cubbie was adopted here in the US but is Korean as well. I guess what I was saying is that I originally thought being able to speak Korean and the fact that we looked like Luca would help him transition better but it wasn’t the case. He still endured a lot of trauma regardless. It’s been a continuous learning process on our end for sure.
I am shocked that ANYONE questions your choice to adopt a Korean child, either from Korea or from the states. Those critics sound like they are ignorant.
Thanks much for stopping by! Cubbie is his nickname. Since he was adopted domestically, I used his nickname on social media until we got through some stuff but then it just stuck:)
I am a Chinese adoptee in a trans racial family and I really appreciate all you have done for your kids! I grew up in schools that weren’t diverse and until I took a heritage trip to China I really appreciated my ethnicity which makes me glad you have considered your children knowing their identity growing up! I also have a question as well: for me I didn’t have any medical history coming to America, was that a difference between your domestic and international adoptions?
Jai hi there, thanks for sharing. Although I’m not adopted, I grew up similar in the sense that my schools were not very diverse. I’m happy you were able to feel a connection to your heritage with your trip. As for your question...were you asking in terms of family history in medical records, or in terms of my sons themselves? I’ll try to answer both. For Korea, a law change several years ago requires birth parents to ‘register’ and fill out some background info, so although limited...I do have some info on our oldest son’s family history. As for his personal medical history, we have documents on his immunizations and health checks while there also. I think now a days, they are able to document things a lot more efficiently than in the past. This was a similar case for our youngest son with his domestic adoption in the sense that we have some (limited) family history but I had access to his personal medical info. I don’t know if this is the case for every adoption but this was our experience. Hope that answers your question Jai. Take care!
Hi there! I'll be honest, adjustment for him was harder because he was more aware of the changes since he was older. But I do know some friends who adopted kids of similar age who had an easier transition. Although we attached fairly well in the beginning...we went through a lot of waves of emotions, especially our first year together. When Cubbie came, we thought Luca was in a good place with us but it did set us back and caused a lot of hardship so it wasn't the easiest road but we are steadily moving in the right direction. (This is the short version). I am hoping to share more of our story with Luca's adoption and Cubbie's adoption one day.
This is really helpful and I’m so glad that you are posting these videos! My husband and I are adopting from Korea and recently got matched yay!!! I would definitely love to chat with you about the coming home and grieving process because that’s what scares me the most. We are so happy tho and are looking forward to this new adventure 😊
Abigail Aguirre thanks for the kind words! And omg congratulations on being matched! That is so exciting! I think you’re already ahead of the game just by acknowledging there will be grieving so you’re doing great! It is definitely a hard thing and I plan to talk about our experiences one day soon. Wishing you all the best! If you ever want to connect, feel free to email me: love.bearandcubbie@gmail.com or you can DM me on Instagram @bearandcubbie

Families adopting are God-sent. Who else can give love and care to a child

Bear and Cubbie Thank you so much! That sounds much better that in Korea nowadays they really look into that!
I do have a question about Luka, since he was older when he got adopted, how was his adjustment period? Did you guys connect immediately?
