I've been using a space mouse for years and I'm at the point where that it's become such an integral part of my SketchUp workflow that if I must use a computer that doesn't have one, I almost feel like I'm missing a limb. It really does speed things up once you get used to it.
I have two, the Pro at work and the pre-Bluetooth wireless one at home (since my desk there is a little smaller). It's definitely a game changer being able to use my mouse while turning or rotating the object at the same time. It's like holding an object in one hand while you mark it up with a pen or pencil in the other. At work, it's also a good way to show off models to coworkers since I'm not picking up and dragging a mouse to get a better view.
I bought my Spacemouse Enterprise after seeing you use it in October 2021. It's a bit pricey for a hobbyist like me, but so glad I bought it. I wouldn't be without it now. I would go so far as to say it's an essential tool.
I've used both the portable spacemouse and now full one. The portable is ok but without a base - hard to use because I was always lifting it off the ground. I hated it for years and eventually just left it next to my keyboard and slowly randomly started using it more and more until I really got used to it then bought the full one... And it's fantastic. I still don't exclusively use it but it's nice to have when I want those controlled movements that you simply cannot do with a mouse and keyboard. I suspect my learning curve would have been much faster if I had one with a base right away. It's an easy recommend for anyone that want to be a pro with SKP or other modeling software.
Highly Recemented!! I bought one b/c of watching your videos. It was one of the greatest tools for my computer. Wouldn't know what I would do without my 3dConnexion Spacemouse.
Originally I had the little portable one and used it on Google Earth. Yes! It is fantastic on Google Earth! This was before I even started using SketchUp. Now I have the Pro version and it is indispensable. Being a drone operator I wish someone would create a driver that would let you fly a drone with this mouse. A puck can do just as much as two controller sticks, and much smoother. That being said, I do have one problem with the driver. In the preferences I prefer to have the Motionmodel set to Target Camera. When I start SketchUp the Motionmodel always defaults to Object. I have to manually set it to Target Camera. I'm not sure whether it's SketchUp or 3DConnexion that is not saving the change, or if it is simply a Permissions problem. Other than that this mouse is one of the best accessories I have.
Aaron thanks agin I always watch all of your videos. I like the way you show how to use Sketcup. I was wondering if you are left handed and if you are not was that also a hard thing to master?
I am right handed. I won’t say that getting used to the 3D mouse was easy or quick, but it was not painful… a couple days of dedicated use and I was decent at using it. After a few weeks it was close to second nature.
The SpaceMouse has been a necessary tool for my SketchUp modelling. Thanks, Aaron.

Great advice Aaron. Always go with your instincts. I have always changed the scroll wheel so zooming in and out makes sense to me.

Thanks Aaron, nice video. I ordered the smaller one today, I would love to see you go through the other options as well, especially the radial menu.

Which one do you use? I’m wondering if I should have gotten the larger one?

Happy thanksgiving friends!

I cant get mine to work. The extension doesn't install and I have updated the drivers...
Where's the links to the mouse?
Head over to www.3dconnexion.com to see what they have to offer!
A three d mouse is pretty nice to use. To bad sketchup makes you buy the more expensive programs to use one.
Actually, 3DConnexion mice work in the free version of SketchUp (that's the most NOT expensive version we can offer).
