Looks like a good day fishing! I love using the drop shot for bass, bluegill, and catfish as well. If you want to orient your bait to the bottom without actually putting it directly on the bottom, you can't beat the drop shot. Great vid my friend, good luck on the water.
That was a good day. I first learned this rig while deep sea fishing for snapper. I think most people around the world call it a Paternoster rig. It's such a useful rig, right? It's so much easier to work with. Not sure why more people don't use it. I even used a version of it with my handlines.
Man that place looks super chill to fish. I just recently got back into fishing with my wife and son and we've been catching a ton of bluegill. Last week we went out and caught about 17 bluegill taking home about 4 of them. Great videos like this inspire us to go out and enjoy the outdoors.
Hey, thanks for stopping by. It is a nice place to fish. It's in the hill country here in west-central Alabama. The hole river changes about 20 miles south of where you see me here. It's the bottom end of the Appalachians. I've refined this method even more, fishing in deeper waters for bigger bluegill. The great thing about bluegill is once you start catching lots of them you'll always have bait for bigger fish if you choose to pursue them.
Thanks for a great video! I'm new to drop shotting but I am a believer. I miss moving water. I cut my teeth fishing a small river in Wisconsin. Man, we hauled in the bluegills and bullheads like crazy!
I wanted to tell you, this was the first video of yours I watches. It made me want to sub, which I did. Hard to describe but it just felt real. I haven't seen another of your videos that compare for me personally. Not sure what your take will be on this but I felt you deserved the feedback. Thanks!!
yea where i live i fish the delta, lots of redear, bluegill, channel cat, large mouth ,black bass, stripper. i just watched your trailer video very cool gave me some good ideas for a trailer for my boat.
Yeah, it's the simplest most no brainer way to fish for big bluegill. I've had even better luck drifting drop shot in deep water out in the middle of the river channel.
Well, thanks! I appreciate it. I love making these videos. I try to get out two to four of these a week. Sometimes it's fishing. Sometimes it's mud motor building. Sometimes it's product reviews. Sometimes it's whatever I can come up with.
It's simple: Set up a compost pile and let God bring them in for you. Here's my playlist on black soldier fly larvae: th-cam.com/play/PL33pk1OEpFSolqoVAn8RAF58tFXr-G5Xv.html
+Tanner Bailey You know, I have had a chance tp try bigger props. The guys over on the Swamp Runner Forums mention these larger props are make more torque than speed. If I run up the RPMs to say 5000 to 6000 RPM, a larger prop might be the ticket. Also running higher RPM I'd need to upgrade to a billet flywheel, billet rod and stuffer springs.
+Collin H I do have a trolling motor. It runs out of battery too fast. Remember I ran down stream 5 miles to put out jugs on a certain creek mouth, then back up stream to drift fish the old dam then ran back down stream to pick up the jugs. There isn't enough time in the day to paddle or use the trolling motor to cover that distance. I built a pirogue in 2007. It's basically a kayak. Again travel time too slow not leaving enough time to fish. Also current I could never paddle against the current and wind to get to my spots. it was pretty much a down stream trip or no trip at all.. Oars are more efficient than a paddle, and a jon boat hauls more gear than a kayak. This was the best choice for me.
Fly fishermen catch lots of bluegill. You always tie a leader/tippet to your fly line. My lead core line is much heavier as fly line, and I catch many bluegill on my handlines.
+Tanner Bailey Well it depends on how much money you want to spend. A simple stage 1 build would include a header/exhaust upgrade, high-flow air filter, and a carburetor rejet. That should cost less than $100 in all. This basically remove the restrictive intake and exhaust the EPA puts on these things. Beyond this higher compression, high RPM and more fuel burn is the key.
+Black Warrior Lures. The thing is that most people don't have an ironton as engines listed as something there parts will fit and that's what I'm was hoping that you maybe could possibly have some where I could be looking for the parts
All these motors are clones of Honda. That Ironton is a clone of a Honda GX390. just buy the GX390 or GX390 clone parts. The only difference is Northern Tools has thier brand on it as opposed to Harbor Freight or Duncar or Lifan and anything else. It's called Original Design Manufacturing. The Chinese company producing these will put your name on it if you want. You can buy these drictly from China is you like: www.alibaba.com/product-detail/6-5-22hp-air-cooled-petrol_1925038294.html?spm=a2700.7724838.30.1.c80SYD
+Tanner Bailey Actually there are a ton of manufacturers producing these engines: www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=420+cc+engine+
Glad you liked it. I also find that 8 lbs test line works best in my waters for any kind of trolling or drifting. That way you have more strength to pull free when hung up. Slinky weights are the most effective in preventing hang ups. How to Make Slinky Weights: th-cam.com/video/kM0BszO-DaA/w-d-xo.html

Glad you liked it. I wish we had more small rivers down here. Everything is all dammed up, but we adapt and learn new techniques.
I wanted to tell you, this was the first video of yours I watches. It made me want to sub, which I did. Hard to describe but it just felt real. I haven't seen another of your videos that compare for me personally. Not sure what your take will be on this but I felt you deserved the feedback. Thanks!!
Thanks, man! That was very encouraging.
I never thought of drop-shot for bluegills, thanks I'll give it a try.
Yup! It works!
I drop-shot for them all the time!
Yup, it's just a matter of downsizing the gear for it.
Instead of feed wheat could you use cracked corn to make to the black fly mash ?
You can use any grain.
Love it man. Gonna try drop shotting to target some 1 pounders next week.
Yeah, man, it works well. Give it a shot, and let me know how it work for you.
I never heard of dropshot as a kid, either. It's just what we did fishing from piers and boats in the salt - on the West coast.
Yeah, in fact, the first time I saw this rig was on deep sea fishing trips. I think most of the world calls it a Paternoster rig.
yea where i live i fish the delta, lots of redear, bluegill, channel cat, large mouth ,black bass, stripper. i just watched your trailer video very cool gave me some good ideas for a trailer for my boat.
Glad it helped.
I use slinky weight now instead of egg weights. A lot fewer hang ups.
yea gonna try that
Dude.... I love the 3-4 finger gauge. You're legit
It works!
im gonna have to try this summer for crappies and sunfish and catfish
+Joseph Kiefert Yeah, it works pretty well.
Just wish I could find some bsl so i can try it out
+Joseph Kiefert I might offer these this spring once they start to colonize.
Ok, didn't want your honey hole. Found out where the Black Warrior River is! Tight lines!
+Ratdog 305 You in Alabama?
+Black Warrior Lures No I am in Ohio, getting ready to catch some nice fat fall bluegills. Tast awful good in January!
nice! Good luck, hope you do well.
Where in Ohio dude? I'm in Northfield, about a half hour away from Akron and Cleveland(each way) that looks like an awesome spot
Sorry, private pond that my buddy only lets me fish.
your one of the only guys ive seen drop shot for bluegill besides me, and i catch some big ones doing it.

this is the first video that I have watched of you and I sure like the video so I'm going to subscribe!!

Well I sure will be watching all of your videos from now on!
I've seen those type of engines in Thailand used on those little boats. What's the actual name of that motor?
This is an SPS Thai Longtail. I bought it from MudMotorKit. He imports them from Thailand. mudmotorkit.com/
Oh wow that's pretty cool 👍👍 Thank you for getting back to me and I appreciate the info 👍
@@stardust1621 Yeah, I love my motor. Had it since 2014.
Black Warrior Lures Yes it definitely works like a charm 👍
Very nice - relaxing. Enjoyed the video. You handled your frustration way better than I would have. :o)
Thanks! It's a relaxing place to fish.
How do you get that fly larvae? I've been thinking of breeding wax worm's for bait but your idea seems easier. tight lines man. good video

I have found some parts I thank are going to work have you ever tried larger props?

+Black Warrior Lures do they have props with a new pich to them? Aka more rust
+Tanner Bailey i would ask Mr. Dobbs at Swamp Runner. he imports these so he may have props with a different pitch.
Where are you fishing?
+Ratdog 305 You want me to reveal my secrets? Black Warrior River below Bankhead Dam
why not invest in a small trolling motor? Im suprised you didnt go with kayak fishing.
+Collin H I do have a trolling motor. It runs out of battery too fast. why use fly line? will scare bluegill
