Excellent review my guy. Your analysis definitely nails the core differences of this game. It’s my favourite of the 3 on NES. Maybe you could check the SNES and Genesis games next, I’ve heard castlevania IV is FANTASTIC. Cheers!
To me, this one would be strictly superior to 1 if some stage gimmicks weren't a little extra. Sypha's path takes you through a very long boat stage with two bosses and eventually a level with the meanest jump in Classicvania. Alucard's has you watch blocks fall for roughly 6 hours. I think the american version is fine, at least for those looking for a challenge. It even features a more involved "second loop" with a handful of new enemies, including Flying Skulls that are a worse version of Medusa Heads (which would have been fun to see in a Symphony of the Night-styled game)
This game gets massive hype and top rating; too bad its mostly just people viewing it through the rose-tinted nostalgia glasses. The difficulty level is WAY unbalanced, with the game throwing every cheap shot in the book at the player. The north American version in particular is brutal in its uncompromising difficulty.
Im loving the retro reviews honestly, super cozy. Hope you do a christmas marathon or something

Top tier NES game no doubt, and one of the best (if not the best) Castlevania game
