      Great video/explanation.... I'm looking for the "Link in the Description" to get this kit from PLTW (I can't find it on their site either

      Are you asking about this - go.pardot.com/l/82012/2020-06-22/5mm19q/82012/1609514713qW9gRSuJ/270_7247_799_Rev2.pdf

      @@MarkJohnston Thanks Mark... but I thought there might be a "Purchase" link. After speaking with PLTW on the phone, as a homeschool parent, I'd have to pay $1k to join PLTW, and many $k for separate module training, to be "qualified" for this kit.

      @@blancemoore yeah, if your not a PLTW program school/teacher you’ll need to order directly from vex. PLTW curriculum is wonderful but probably not cost effective for homeschool. Sorry.

      Can you do a video showing programming with the old VEX sensors and tougher programming (loops, if/then, etc). Thanks!! :D

    Hey Mark! Thank you so much for your video. I really need this to start my robotics assignment. need more videos to learn from you.

    Thank you so much! I'm new to teaching Principles of Engineering PLTW this year and was overwhelmed by learning a whatever this Vex stuff is without any support. Phenomenal first video to get started. I'm so much more competent and confident now.

    Thank you Mark for helping me, I too, am teaching Robotics after a 3 year layoff, and this video walks me through how to set up VR5 with my 7th graders, thank you!

      for someone who spent about a month studying everything electronics and how to manage to get optimized performance with efficient material use for hours a day, I absolutely agree with handing ready to use plug and play components that are used on robots, as it takes a long time for a person who has no hardware experience to learn even how to properly select the proper items to use.

    • @Krazy0

      But absolutely it doesn't justify the huge sum of money, I prefer learning than just spending a whole month and half worth of family groceries on materials that I've also to think over to make something of.

      Sure, these kits aren't really designed to be purchased by individuals. They are classroom-grade quality... which, if you are a teacher, you would know how cheep stuff easily falls apart in a classroom setting. I would rather buy once and use it over and over again rather than stuff constantly breaking. To each their own.

    Thanks for the video...super helpful! I was able to get some of the controllers, but I didn't order the receivers. Do you have to have those in order for the controller to work?

    • @MarkJohnston

      Yes. The brain does not have a transmitter/receiver

    I'm curious, what is the advantage to using the downloaded software versus the online VR software?

    • @MarkJohnston
      @MarkJohnston  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am confused by your question. VR is totally separate from V5.

    • @AlexMBraden
      @AlexMBraden 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkJohnston I am new to VEX and when I was exploring all the fun stuff I had assumed that VR could be used by students to program, test virtually, then load onto a V5. Now that I am looking a little closer, I don't see the download to brain option...seems a shame.

    • @MarkJohnston
      @MarkJohnston  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand. I don't think VR was ever intended to do that. There are too many differences from a virtual environment to a real one. Once the program gets more complex, the chances that the real world robot would behave like the online one become smaller and smaller. I have used programs like that in the past (ie. RVW/RobotC) and it tends to cause more frustration than value.
