Only because the parts are expensive.. i also heard from owners that if you keep up with routine maintenance you will avoid the expensive repairs. It is not a throw away honda or accura...
*4:33** "And you also have a fold down step".. Climbs up, sees massive dings in the roof and quickly turns camera away.. Carries on as if he hasn't noticed anything. ..What a sheister!*
I miss having this vehicle. I had a 2001. It is true they have many problems. I can vouch for that, but I would like to get a 2004 and only drive it from time to time. My affordable and very reliable 2003 Honda Accord with 233,000 miles will still be my daily driver. : -D
I loveee Land Rovers, can't wait to see if you find a LR3, maybe you can teach em something about my car that I didn't even know!! But the BEST mileage I have ever seen out of my LR3 is 15.9 MPG on the highway, average with mostly city driving is 12.4 MPG. Anyways, haven't seen the interior of the Discovery II before so glad you found this!!
I own 03 ment condition se7 . Cacky leather . Best looking vehicle ever in my opinion . Runs flawless if you keep up on it . Soon plan to put a lt1 conversion in it :)
@wotan20 haha pretty much every car dealership keeps the tanks near empty. I'm not sure of the reason for that maybe to save money; but I do know that gasoline will tend to go bad after a few months. Plus I think the dealerships will fill the tank when the car is sold. At least they filled my tank up when I purchased my car.
if your bothered about fuel mpg....buy the td5 diesel model. it does 34mpg. i had a v8 disco and i could get 24 ish mpg out of it. and they dont go wrong any more than american stuff does
@Wheelman286 I'm not sure if the 4.6L uses the same block as the 3.9/4.0L, but the 4.0 is based on an engine block purchased from GM in the early 60s. And yes, my 1998 Disco with the 4.0 produces about 183 horse power and is painfully slow at highway speeds. Torque at lower speeds when off-roading is quite adequate though.
The 4.6 does share the same block as the 3.9/4.0. They were originally a 3.5 but then were made larger. A British sports car company made them up to 5.0.
I had a 2002 discovery and it was the best car i ever had, i have now traded it in for a 2008 X5 and i regret it. i mean the x5 is more fuel efficient, more comfortable and has lot more gadgets but its just not as fun, i use to drive that disco round my fields at 60-70mph and race my best mates F150 and it has brilliant fun. you try do that in a X5 and you will destroy it in 5mins.
@Rorycarguy I am not at all mechanically inclined, I'm good with electronics but I wouldn't know where to start looking for sensors! I am going to PM you the rest of these as I know how annoying all the replies can be in comments :)
@datboiwes333 That the practice is common, hardly invalidate my remark. And if the habit is for saving money, then it falls into the 'penny wise but pound foolish' category. Also, where did you get, that I advocated to fill the tank up to brim? All I saying is that the dealership should never let tank bellow ¼ for the reasons I already mentioned.
@barnie7219 Like the other commentator you missed my point. I never advocated to fill it all up. All I'm saying that the tank should never left empty, or lets say dip bellow ¼ for good practice, regardless who is the momentary owner/guardian.
this looks well taken care of it will probably last forever if it is taken care of. Unless I needed them I'd take those last row of seats out reduces weight and will give you more room.
@Rorycarguy Haha, thats America! I am not very good at driving stick, but it can happen lol. Honestly I want to get rid of my Disco3, I have just about every single warning light you can think of on, the engine sounds horrid, the air suspension decided it would stop working one day and the electric windows go up and down as they please, and I most certainly am not prepared to drop even more cash into it, especially with the $5.08 a gallon gas prices plus the cost of the premium gas+taxes!
The fact that 'All City' employees left the vehicle's gas tank empty, shows that they are either grossly careless and unprofessional, or just simply don't care if the Land Rover's fuel pump overheats and die, or suck up impurities from the bottom of the tank to clog up fuel filters, fuel injectors and so on.
The rear door has not been redesigned for North America... They could have fixed that instead of including those stupid beep noises.. It should open on the other side so we can fill up the cargo without having to run around the entire vehicle lol... They seem to forget that we park on the right side of the street... disappointing
@Rorycarguy Yeah I wish they kept the Disco3 name here and some diesels, LR3 sounds too bland and stupid like the new Cadillac models (CTS, STS, etc) I guess it makes it easier for the Americans, more complicated names may just confuse them, or startle them lol.
These are wonderful cars on the inside even though its the older model and they are wonderful cars to have but if it breaks down it will cost you a lot of moneys so i wouldn't really want to buy the car unless i have the money to pay for it and the the problems it will have.
anyone can tell me how did the british engineered such a unreliable piece of crap? The car looks good , has a nice stance and its big. Its not only unreliable but you average 12MPG which is ABSURD. What were they thinking ???
XD. 12 average?! Haha. I own one and get at least 13. never have I gone under that. The engine used, Rover bought from Buick in the 60's and slowly revised it over the years. No one said it was perfect, but if you look at engines from the 60's, putting over 100,000 on them and they'll need work. So I think Rover did pretty well. Now, as for the 12 mpg... this vehicle weighed 4500+ pounds, had all time 4 wheel drive, powered by an old motor, and had a 4 speed auto in most of them. But... it's a Land Rover and those who own one, that truly appreciate Rovers, will never get rid of it.
It is unreliable for those yuppies that don't take care of it. If you do maintenance it will last forever. Too many numpties bought this and thought they could abuse it or ignore it
@Jakeman2164 Cousin drives one he gets like 10mpg city and like 14 highway. It's hilarious. My twin turbo 300zx can get better mpg than it. They are also very reliable if the owner does the annual maintenance on it.
Most of the newer ones are very unreliable. Beautiful yes but unreliable to say the least. Horrible gas mileage 12city 15 hwy. Mine was a 1994 discovery and it had bad mpg but never gave me any trouble. Unfortunately had to sell it because when at the time I was 18 the insurance was through the roof and couldn't afford the gas anymore lol.
@datboiwes333 It's called exchanging opinions and debating them by intelligent reasoning. I've never used foul language against you, and I believe you shouldn't use toward me either. In any case, let's finish it off, just like you said. Bye.
Better looking than the newer models.
i agree
Ikr I agree
The newer ones are expensive and look like the other ones
I agree👍, even the engine feels more muscular than the newer models🤌🤌🤌
I always thought this was the most beautiful land rover.
into my second disco. I've had way more issues with my two Jeeps and am glad to be back into this
More issues with a Jeep than a Land Rover? I've never ever heard that before, even from hardcore Jeep-to-Rover folks...
Only because the parts are expensive.. i also heard from owners that if you keep up with routine maintenance you will avoid the expensive repairs. It is not a throw away honda or accura...
Parts are ok.Correct on weekly maintenance!
we had one of these - fantastic car - I was quite young when we had it and I absolutely loved the step at the back haha.
*4:33** "And you also have a fold down step".. Climbs up, sees massive dings in the roof and quickly turns camera away.. Carries on as if he hasn't noticed anything. ..What a sheister!*
I m your big fan from 🇮🇳INDIA🇮🇳, the first vedio I watched of your was Maybach 62s, I love your starting line- "Hey everybody how's it going".
I wish that I could see more of these around here.
I miss having this vehicle. I had a 2001. It is true they have many problems. I can vouch for that, but I would like to get a 2004 and only drive it from time to time. My affordable and very reliable 2003 Honda Accord with 233,000 miles will still be my daily driver.

Anyways, haven't seen the interior of the Discovery II before so glad you found this!!
just bought one with new top hat motor and aftermarket lift etc super nice.
Great video as always Kyle! Those Discovery Series II's are sweet!
these cars are so badass
@gmman010983 You're right the interior does have a lot of plastics and hard surfaces, just like GM.
Wow never knew these cars were so nice :)
I own 03 ment condition se7 . Cacky leather . Best looking vehicle ever in my opinion . Runs flawless if you keep up on it . Soon plan to put a lt1 conversion in it :)
liking that ram 3500 in the background
the 1998-2004 Land Rover Discovery was assembled in
Solihull, United Kingdom
Pretoria, South Africa
Aqaba, Jordan
Can not believe the condition of that interior....
I like the new body style they came out with the year after this one.
is it weird that this is actually my dream car....?
Corkoth55 no
Corkoth55 just wait to see the maintenance, fuel and other parts costs and the mpg and boom reality will hit you like a bitch
Corkoth55 definitely not
Me too I don’t know how I didn’t see this comment before
@wotan20 haha pretty much every car dealership keeps the tanks near empty. I'm not sure of the reason for that maybe to save money; but I do know that gasoline will tend to go bad after a few months. my all time favorite car :D
I want one when I grow up
No its mine too.. i plan on buying one very soon...i am so excited.
if your bothered about fuel mpg....buy the td5 diesel model. it does 34mpg. i had a v8 disco and i could get 24 ish mpg out of it. and they dont go wrong any more than american stuff does
Here in the states we had no other option than the 4.6l
Not one word about the 4 wheel drive system which is the point of a Land Rover. Marginal review!
I dont think he even knew what the second shifter was for. UGH
@Wheelman286 I'm not sure if the 4.6L uses the same block as the 3.9/4.0L, but the 4.0 is based on an engine block purchased from GM in the early 60s. Do Hello anyone know that you parts of this truck are shielded? or semiblindadas? Please answer me
@jason11582623 Yeah, my LR3( third generation Discovery) has a smaller V8 and it gets 300 HP.
my dream car
I had a 2002 discovery and it was the best car i ever had, i have now traded it in for a 2008 X5 and i regret it. i mean the x5 is more fuel efficient, more comfortable and has lot more gadgets but its just not as fun, i use to drive that disco round my fields at 60-70mph and race my best mates F150 and it has brilliant fun. you try do that in a X5 and you will destroy it in 5mins.
@wotan20 why have all the vehicles tanks full, it makes more sense to fill the tank for the buyer as each car is sold
What is the song on the radio playing?
Bryant1939 Billy Squire "Everybody Wants You" and then a Boston song 🎶. I dig the station
+Xelena Thirteen thank you lol
@Rorycarguy I am not at all mechanically inclined, I'm good with electronics but I wouldn't know where to start looking for sensors! I am going to PM you the rest of these as I know how annoying all the replies can be in comments :)
@MattLoaf92 True that, i hate all that beeping so much :D
I miss mine so much I'm getting another to swap a different engine into.
@talldude123 did you just completely miss the two horn buttons on the steering wheel? seriously 24 people missed those?
It's funny that when he was in the very back, the radio station was doing an emergency test.
@datboiwes333 That the practice is common, hardly invalidate my remark. And if the habit is for saving money, then it falls into the 'penny wise but pound foolish' category. Also, where did you get, that I advocated to fill the tank up to brim? All I saying is that the dealership should never let tank bellow ¼ for the reasons I already mentioned.
wotan20 has always
4:26 I think I heard an Emergency Alert System go off. If you listen carefully, you should hear it.
Oh yes! You were right!! I turned my headphones up just to see what it was. But it said it was only a test.
I had a LR D2 diesel. Auto excellent, firm suspension, but the rear passenger doors are narrow
@barnie7219 Like the other commentator you missed my point. I never advocated to fill it all up. All I'm saying that the tank should never left empty, or lets say dip bellow ¼ for good practice, regardless who is the momentary owner/guardian.
If you are at 6:43 and click back to around 0:06, it is pretty much the same clip.
bro dont get me wrong. it looks amazing and u can carry like 6 of ur buddies around easily but damn bro. this will use up ur money in terms of repairs
The British Ford Explorer.
Or Escape!!
@@Adeline9418 That's the Freelander
@jason11582623 its not about the horsepower, its about the torque for these SUV's
Great car
It's not really necessary in a city environment, but this is a nice SUV nonetheless
What about the 4 wheel drive ?????
Did anyone else notice that the radio was doing an emergency test when he was looking at the very back? LOL
J J Varney Vlogz yes ur right
Do the seats fold flat?
they don't fold flat, but they do tumble forward leaving a flat floor
My first Car 💕👌
how are these for towing an rv?
7,700 towing capacity
Does anyone know if it has an aux chord
Lol. Aftermarket stereo head units are dirt cheap, why in the world would you care?
@@aw11roman so i can play music on it
@cupramac Just have the door closed when you start it up and you won't hear shit it's no big deal.
@Rorycarguy yeah they just changed the name in North America.
@ezrawwedp in north america we only put diesels in big trucks usually. i really wish we didnt. thats why the uk is awesome..
Billy Squier - Everybody Wants You
is it still available?@Saabkyle
@jason11582623 i think its more about the torque, its only what im thinkin, idk if my statement is correcttt
this looks well taken care of it will probably last forever if it is taken care of. Unless I needed them I'd take those last row of seats out reduces weight and will give you more room.
John Kothanek any car lasts forever if you take care of it. A truly good car doesn't need constant care
@jason11582623 it got high torque .it's more needed in off roading
My father's favorite SUV
... Why didnt we get to see you lock and unlock it?
ugh... i dunno, i really want one, but i've heard that reliability is shit.
Pretty car
@carguy379 I think he meant the horn clip.
That color is not called silver it’s called “Zambezi Silver.”
Land Rover Discovery 2's were built to last & never break down
the one that got away
@Rorycarguy Haha, thats America! I am not very good at driving stick, but it can happen lol.
Honestly I want to get rid of my Disco3, I have just about every single warning light you can think of on, the engine sounds horrid, the air suspension decided it would stop working one day and the electric windows go up and down as they please, and I most certainly am not prepared to drop even more cash into it, especially with the $5.08 a gallon gas prices plus the cost of the premium gas+taxes!
Hey Kyle. Your videos are great! How about a review of the Evoque?
Lol it has the same chime as the mercedes gle 350 im using!
The fact that 'All City' employees left the vehicle's gas tank empty, shows that they are either grossly careless and unprofessional, or just simply don't care if the Land Rover's fuel pump overheats and die, or suck up impurities from the bottom of the tank to clog up fuel filters, fuel injectors and so on.
im getting a car exactly like this

maybe i;ll find out in the future... for now i'm stuck with what i've got.
The rear door has not been redesigned for North America... They could have fixed that instead of including those stupid beep noises.. only if land rovers where reliable :(
If only your spelling was reliable
You forgot to sound the horn!
who would buy an 04 discovery 2 if the much better discovery 3 was launched in the same year ?
These are wonderful cars on the inside even though its the older model and they are wonderful cars to have but if it breaks down it will cost you a lot of moneys so i wouldn't really want to buy the car unless i have the money to pay for it and the the problems it will have.
The question is will I ever looked good inside a land rover discovery
why would someone care for Fahrenheit?
@jason11582623 Its built for offroading and comfort, be happy it at least has a V8. In my country all of them are the lame ass diesel
It needs head gaskets and maybe a new radiator.
It looks fucking classic
anyone can tell me how did the british engineered such a unreliable piece of crap? The car looks good , has a nice stance and its big. Its not only unreliable but you average 12MPG which is ABSURD. What were they thinking ???
Its a 6,000 pound V8 what do you expect? lmao

It is unreliable for those yuppies that don't take care of it. If you do maintenance it will last forever. Too many numpties bought this and thought they could abuse it or ignore it
