    I have a .22lr marlin that I've had since I was 9 years old. I'm bought my .22 WMR when I was 35. My favorite round all time is the .22 mag, ever since I bought it. I can count on one hand how many times I've shot my .22 LR since 2012, I can't count how many times I've shot my .22 magnum since I bought it. Does at least three times the damage vs a LR. I'm not surprised at the results. Great fun video as always on my absolute favorite TH-cam channel.

  • @dondee5439

    At the 7:52 mark, the 22LR injured 84 paper plates and the 22MAG injured 212 paper plates. BIG DIFFERENCE THERE. My only concerns are if the barrel lengths are equal and not shooting from the same rifle brand/type. My armchair quarterbacking at its finest. Nothing is impossible to the person that does NOT have to do it, like me. Thanks for all you do.

    Good video. Very interesting to see the difference in the round penetration. I think I am going to do this test myself, but shooting 4 different offerings. CCI mini mag, CCI stinger in 22 LR. Then CCI Maxi Mag, Hornady Ballistic Tip in 22 Magnum. Have a CZ 452 Ultra Lux 22 LR and a Mossberg Chuckster 22 Mag as my test rifles.
    I am curious as to what will be the outcome :-)

  • @JohnLloydScharf
    @JohnLloydScharf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The 10/22 is 18.5" and the Savage is 21"and because the power is by the velocity squared, that extra 13%+ could make the difference.
    22 WMR - 40 gr CPHP - CCI Maxi-Mag 1269-1356fps out of a 4.3" barrel. 15.5-17.3 penetration in ballistic gel.164 ft/lbs.
    22 LR - 40 Grain CPHP - CCI Velocitor 1027-1069 fps out of a 4.4" barrel. 14-20.2 penetration in ballistic gel.101 ft/lbs.
    So, regarding penetration, the difference between one shot and the next, much less barrel length, could make that difference.

  • @willbarnz6960
    @willbarnz6960 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Savage .22wmr, as a bolt action, should be able to fire both the .22lr and the .22wmg. You'd have to manually load the .22lr into the breach though.
    I mention this as there may be minor differences between the Ruger and the Savage that may or may not play a role in the results.
    Nvermind.... I forgot that the magnum is just slightly larger... results of the .22lr in the magnum would be catastrophic for the casing at the very least.

    First off, are you comparing a low velocity 1000-1100 fps bullet against a 1900 fps bullet? Really?
    Secondly, your rifles are different, the Ruger loses a tad of velocity to eject. The Savage does not.
    Third... are the bullets both the same, .22lr is usually lead and WRM' are usually full jacket.
    So many flaws in this comparison... apples to oranges ..

I have noticed that the Stinger 22 shells have a warning on box--3 mile range so they are much hotter shell than the ones that killed the boy--According to Statistics. more people have been killed by 22's than any caliber on the market...

    Wished you would have included more info on what you were actually comparing. The world of .22lr and .22wmr are huge! What brands were the bullets tested? What was the weight in grains of the bullets? What was the bullet construction (hollow point, lead solid, copper washed/plated)? What was the advertised velocity of the bullets (sub sonic .22lr or hyper velocity)? Not all cartridges within a specific caliber are created equal. Without that information, it was only mildly interesting as opposed to very interesting. Love the other videos though so take or leave the feedback.

    The Fiochi FMJ 22 mag will go much farther than a hollow point. Whats type of bullets were these and what brand? I had a Fiochi FMJ go almost 2" into stacked maple plywood. The CCI FMJ was right behind it but not as good. Hollow points ( all brands) stopped at 1 1/4". I enjoy your videos all the time!!!!!!.............Cheers, Jim

    It only stands to reason that the .22WMR, with a longer case has more grain weight of powder, generating higher muzzle velocity. What you didn't mention is the bullet grain weights. Generally speaking, the .22lr & .22WMR both are available in 20-50 grain weight bullets. Even if the bullets are different weights, the muzzle velocity listed on the boxes would indicate the deeper penetration would probably go to the faster bullet. Also, as the bullets mushroom, they will wad- cut the paper & push some of it along through subsequent plates riding in front of the bullet, so the broken paper doesn't necessarily mean that the bullet went that far. I think you should have continued to peel the individual plates further backward & you would have found the .22WMR also.

    I used to like to use outdated Monkey Wards catalogs,(or sears) no need to count anything, just open up to the last page holed, and look at page number--just don't slip up and get a current catalog-not well received by parents. However, those catalogs are likely sought after artifacts from the past now!

    Hey great experiment but comparing apples to oranges. The WMR is a bolt lock up pushing all the energy down the tube.
    The LR is a blowback action and a portion of the energy doesn't go down the tube but is instead used to cycle the bolt
