My goodness - the filthy river near the rod and path was a tender mercy. Never thought of it that way!

I am so grateful that I went back to listen to this lesson even though I was pretty sure I had already. There are points made that I don't recall ever hearing before that really empowered me. Thank you so much for your inspired insights! They strengthen me daily.

This lesson, dealing with scriptures that I’ve read many times, is particularly meaningful to me currently; an explanation of my current life experiences. Thank you so much. I’m trying diligently to hold on to that rod in this difficult time of my life.

Thank you for such a beautiful presentation. I just love the profound insights. I love the vision of the Tree of Life. I believe this vision was meant for all of God's children.
I especially love what was said about the dark and dreary wilderness. I love how Bro Griffin said it's a neutral space. I too see it as a crossroads of sorts.
I have come to know the Savior more during my time in the dark and dreary wilderness. I am sure I will be there again at some point in another season, however, I do feel that for each time I am in that place, it is an opportunity to learn something new, and even reinforce lessons learnt from other times I was there.
The dark and dreary wilderness is a necessary part of Lehi's vision. It is here that I have come to know the depth of the Savior's love, and how far he will go and has gone for me. It's very personal. The scriptures talk about how the Lord supports his children from moment to moment. I know this to be true from my time spent in this space.
There is value and progression in the dark and dreary wilderness. It is an opportunity to be close to God despite the uncertainty. This is just my take on it. I still have alot to learn about the vision. I think learning and understanding the vision could take a lifetime, only because there is so much to understand.
God bless our wonderful teachers Bro Halverson and Bro Griffin, and God bless everyone at SC ❤️.

Excellent as always! You are my favorite LDS teachers.
I believe both clinging and holding fast to the iron rod are appropriate descriptions on how to stay close to Jesus Christ and His words.
When the floor falls out from under us, like when someone dies unexpectedly, or a child is abducted, clinging to the rod could mean how much we truly need God and His word. When we are about to give up, we need to cling to the teachings and doctrine of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, so as to keep going.
Now, when life is going along with normal day-to-day issues, holding fast to the rod means, in one way, to be consistent and sincere in reading and studying and applying the word of God. Including during those moments in life when things are going fairly smoothly and perhaps we feel we don’t need God’s word as much.
    I absolutely love this lesson!

In my mind, if I know the ppl showing scorn are in the wrong, then the very fact that they disagree with me tells me I am doing right and take their scorn as a compliment instead of being ashamed.

When climbers attempt Everest, they MUST hold the anchoring ropes. As they get higher (harder) they can only take one step at a time to keep going toward their goal (the top). I see many parallels between Lehi’s dream, T & T’s lesson and those Everest climbers.

I love the dictionary meaning of cling, to hold tight. Like cling wrap, a secure seal so it preserves the contents and it doesn't spill or spoil. I think if we consider the meaning of cling this way to hold tight to the iron rod we will be preserved and not be spoiled along the path even thru the darkness!

    HOLD FAST
    is a classic tattoo
    across the fingers
    of British sailors from
    the days of wooden
    ships and iron men
    when clinging to ropes
    and sails dozens of feet
    above a pitching deck
    in deadly seas... a time
    to HOLD FAST because
    your life and the ship's
    mission depend on it

Thank you for the wonderfully inspiring presentation given on Lehi's Dream of the Tree of Life. As Taylor mentioned in Nephi's interactve/ instruction with angelic help, Nephi saw that those who continually held fast to the Iron Rod until they reached the tree of life and "came and fell down and partook."
A sweet reminder entered my heart that all along the journey to the 'Tree of Life' and the 'Path' the 'Rod' represented the Savior. I pondered over the phrase, 'and they 'came forward' and 'fell down' and Partook' of the fruit of the Tree..
Did not the Son of God,( In my opinion; so well represented in both Lehi and Nephi's dream and vision) 'Came' to a Garden...'Fall Down' because of the enormous weight of the Atonement and 'Partook' finishing His preparations unto the children of men...
Lehi and Nephi's experience became much more sacred than I could have possibly imagined.
Thank you, Taylor and Tyler, for your preparation and inspired insights!

I'm quite new to the Book of Mormon Scripture and the Prophets of Mormon. However, I'm learning, and the dream that I see Nephi having of the river, is the Nile River. Perhaps the Grand Ethiopian Dam even. But Nephi was definitely seeing Africa, and the Promised Land. He's seeing Africa, the dark and dreary wilderness. Please don't think that Nephi was in America, that God wasn't showing him visions of the Promised Land, and visions of the New Jerusalem. I am a Prophet and Messenger of God. I pray that this revelation I shared is well received and pondered.

As far as clinging being fear driven, Bible says tht we are to Fear the Lord You God. I do understand what you are saying though contrasting us holding on. We are doing the action when we are holding on. There is a Christian song by Casting Crowns that says in part......paraphrased here, when times are tough, stop wasting your energy clinging to God, but rather let him hold you in his arms. Kind of like the footprints poem. When you look behind you and see only one set of footprints in the sand during your worst days, it's not that God left you, but rather carried you through. Just a thought

I wonder why the fruit, that represents the love of god, is somehow presented as the end goal of a long and dreary journey. Aren’t we always supposed to be able to feel the love of god?

The man dressed in a white robe only turned a wilderness into a waste and darkness for many hours. Lehi by contrast beckoned his family to come to the tree and partake of the fruit. The man dressed in a white robe was evil.
