Insightful video! One of the reasons I am currently studying for the CySA+ exam is because of watching your video on how to pass it. Hope to see more videos on how to further cybersecurity career
I'm going for the Net+, CySA+ and the Linux+ because I'm doing a minor is cybersecurity for college. If I have these three certifications, I'll only have two do four other classes to get the minor. So that's my motivation! Also, if anyone is reading this and is going or planning on going for a Cybersecurity degree then you'll likely be required to get these certifications anyway.
Both are a no brainer. One is more general security concepts that any IT professional can use, especially system and network admins. The other is more specialized in blue team concepts.
From what I’ve read Cyber Security Analyst + is more of the “Defense” side of detecting penetrators. And the PenTest + is more offensive and trying to find weak links..?
Got sec+, Net+ and even BTL1. I’m an information security analyst and have been so for 18 months. Wanting to move to a fully remote position paying me better. Wondering if CySA+ will give my resume the boost I need in this market the way it is. Is it gonna do anything with this market the way it is?
What home lab would you recommend setting up to ideally practice comprehensively everything that is needed to pass the CYSA+? Obviously a computer with Kali Linux, Metasploit and Wireshark....what else would you recommend home-lab wise? I just acquired my Security+ so I have a way to go, but I would like to slowly (but comprehensively) be preparing myself for it.
a vulnerable web app to practice offensive security is fun and helpful to re-enforce the theory, something like webgoat, metasploitable2, etc. But tbh you don't need to go that far indepth for CySA+, never mind Sec+. You only really need to be able to analyse outputs, recognise IOCs/attacks and make suggestions on mitigations. I would also recommend tryhackme if you're very new to some of these tools. It gives great instruction for your first time, then you can explore in your own lab after getting the basics.
So the Security+ is a great foundation, while the CySA+ builds on it? Question, once you have these certifications, is adding another cert like the Certified Ethical Hacker worth it or is that just overkill at this point?🤔 Great video, by the way!😀
Security+ is a cert that tries to cover all security domains. Then the more advanced certs will be more specific to a certain security domain. Like the CySa+ is a cert specific to Security Operations or the PenTest+ is a cert specific to pentesting.
I got the security+ in September 2019. I am studying for cysa+ now its a lot of overlap. I am shooting for taking it in 6 weeks study time. Can you make a video about your current job?
Please can you answer me this, I just wanted to know how likely u recommend a person to purse his career in cyber security, only taking certifications of CompTIA CySA+ and Security+ without having any experience or background of security or networking terms.? How one should start learning this cyber security ?
I'm enrolled with a certain large online university doing my cybersecurity degree, and I've asked my program mentor to move all my certifications from being at the end of my degree plan to more immediate. I also pointed out clearly that I want my CYSA+ right after my Security+ which is the class I am doing right now. I've already done the A+ and Network+ and I have many years of IT experience. His response is that the CYSA+ is a tough one and if he gives it to me too soon then he'd be setting me up for a failure. What do u think?
I'm looking to make the jump to security from QA/test automation. I have a CS degree and some limited experience in vulnerability analysis. Ideally I'd like to be in a pentest role, but would be interested in doing vulnerability management in a SOC or something where I get to receive/triage pentest findings or react to potential attacks. Would I be safe to skip Sec+ and go straight to CySA+ since I have relevant experience? I'm not too interested in Pentest+ as there are better pentest certs.
Hi. I did CISA and have 7 years of IT Audit experience. I am new to comptia certs and planning to do cysa+ before cissp. Is sec+ really required in my case?
I got my Security+ back in 2015 and have been keeping the cert updated with ceus. Ive been working in the Navy in IT the past 5 years and want to know if it would be worth pursuin CySA before i get out. I have 4 months left in.
Great video! I'm a sophomore in college and have the Security+. I was going to intern over summer but due to the corona it looks like its not going to happen. I plan on going for the CySa but I heard people say having CySa and sec+ without any experience doesnt look great. any thoughts?
At the very least get a good Network foundation currently working in the IT field having a strong Network Foundation is important so while if you pursue security + you will not have knowledge gaps when taking the test.
Hey John, I would recommend checking out the exam objectives for the Sec+ and seeing if they align with what you already know. If so, you should move on to the cysa+!
Check out my post where I break down the key differences between these two exams!

I recently passed my Security+ exam and I was wondering whether to take the Cysa+ next. Great video for decision making.
great info! Studying for my sec+ during this quarantine
Thanks alot for those video's recent month i got my security+ certification now I'm studying for CysA+ lets gooo!!!
I’ve just completed my security + and this is exactly the question I’m looking at, my end goal is to get into a cyber security analyst role.
Same here
did yall end up getting one ?
@@ap1000482 not yet but I have an interview coming up.

Hey Colin, just getting around to watching this video. Excellent as always buddy. Hope you're well
I would definitely say do security + first to get the basics cysa+ goes more in depth and covers different topics
Great compassions!! This exactly what I wanted from this video. Thanx!
Good info! Starting to study for Security+ and your videos have been helpful in pointing me into the right direction!

Currently hold Sec+ and GCIH. Still struggle to get a InfoSec job.
The security+ is a must in govtech. It satisfy the 8570 baseline .
Thanks for the video. It answered all of my questions.

That’s what I read as well.
Glad to know!

I would go for casp+ or CISSP if you have the job experience, CEH is not a great idea if you have CysA+
Just dont pursue any EC-Council, waste of time and money unfortunately. PNTP or eLearnSecurity has much better content/price ratio.
Hi, thanks for sharing this lovely video.
May I ask how long it took you to study/pass the Cysa+ after the sec+?
2 months
Which is better ccna cyber ops or cysa+ ??
Thank you brother
Thank you for making this helpful video
Great information, thank you. I’m done reading for sec+. I’m getting ready for the exams. I have to experience though.
May i know the period of time you took to finish the course?
Thank you for sharing this!
Should I take the CS0-001 or wait for CS0-002 coming on Apr21?
Personally i'm trying to get the CS0-001, specifically becuase Jason Dion says the 002 test was much more difficult.
I got the security+ in September 2019. I am studying for cysa+ now its a lot of overlap. I am shooting for taking it in 6 weeks study time. Can you make a video about your current job?
Hi Collin would u recommend taking the the new 002 over the 001 exam?
go with 001. It is easier than 002.
Please can you answer me this, I just wanted to know how likely u recommend a person to purse his career in cyber security, only taking certifications of CompTIA CySA+ and Security+ without having any experience or background of security or networking terms.? I am told networking is important and ability to read coding. Part of CompTIA networking deals with security, so it is a starting point.
That’s my plan right now is to obtain my CYSA and pair it with my sec +

WGU?

@@oculosprudentium8486Was it not WGU? They’re a great online University.
No you don't need both. If you have CySA, then go for CCNA and Pentest.
Hi Colin,
What did you use to study for Cysa+?
I'm looking to make the jump to security from QA/test automation. I have a CS degree and some limited experience in vulnerability analysis. Which choice did you went for after all 😂?
I have ceh and ECSA certifications,do I need cysa+ and sec+?
Hi. I did CISA and have 7 years of IT Audit experience. I am new to comptia certs and planning to do cysa+ before cissp. Is sec+ really required in my case?
I’m sure you’ll be fine but I’d say just get both. With your experience you should make quick work of the sec+ and it’ll only help you.
Me too.. watching this video make me want to line it as
Security plus
CySa
CISSP

Curious how your situation went man. What did you do? What happened when you went job hunting?
Bro do have Linux+ Certification? study tips for passing it?
What are tour thoughts on pentest+?
How hard would it be to get a job with network+ security+ and cysa+ with no security internship experience?
Exactly how much coding do you do in your field ?
For the most part you don't do coding. You use command line terminals and network troubleshooting.
S+ Stare plus
Did you get bachelors as well?
Does he even blink?

U can pass it without experience. I pass those exams last year
How long did it take you to get the security plus can you tell me your study tips etc

If I have a degree in Cybersecurity, would you still recommend BOTH Sec+ and CySA+? Or would you recommend just one of those?
Hey John, I would recommend checking out the exam objectives for the Sec+ and seeing if they align with what you already know. If so, you should move on to the cysa+!
straight to comments cant look in eyes
No you can't skip the security + the security+ is the baseline
