We did just win a conference championship in the hardest conference and win the Rose Bowl against the Baker Mayfield led Sooners. Again, I know it’s not a natty, and I know we’re not up there yet with Bama or Clemson, but that still puts us ahead and in a different league than pretty much every other team in recent history.

Getting a hurt Auburn instead of Bama dulled the shine on that trophy. Then the biggest downside of the playoff is nobody remembers the first round and it doesn't mean much without a NCG. That OU win would have been a banner win in the BCS era, it was a great win. Part of this is because there have been so many ass kicking in the first round by Bama and Clemson that it's seemed too easy.
