    Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
    It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
    We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

    We switched to 2 psi check valves on the nozzle bodies and a minimum set pressure of the machine to 10 psi. 2 psi check valves open in a range from 2 to 8 psi, why, I don’t know. This helps us run slow and start out slower. We had an issue like you did where half the tips would open, burning some crop and leaving strips of weeds. Seemed to work for us beginners. Have a great day!

    We only use a forklift to for changing tires on our Deere sprayer. With us 3 20 yr olds we can get one swapped around in about 20 minutes. But we also use a 3/4 air impact. As for that head trailer I would say you’re probably at or exceeding capacity, if it’s just something to store it on you’ll be fine. But I wouldn’t road it more than necessary.

    When switching sprayer tires iv found that using a fork lift to get in on the hub is best, then rotate tire to where its close, use 2 long pinch point bars under each side of the tire to get it on the lugs. Having 2 allows you to pick one side up a little more than the other to rotate as your lifting if you need to fudge it a bit. Sounds like a pain to manually lift it with bars but it actually works pretty slick. Everybody’s got their own way and tricks they like but that’s mine

    I know you love to answer farming questions. Ok, don’t laugh at me, yes, I’ve been watching farmers on YT for several years, but still don’t understand the difference between a field cultivator, vertical tillage, a “digger” (which Larson’s run in Minnesota after tillage & in front of the planter). & a ripper. I know that rippers have long shanks Minnesota runs bc they have very sticky wet ground & it just opens the ground but doesn’t turn anything over. I know what vertical tillage does. Is that also a cultivator?

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Okay buckle up: a “digger” is a field cultivator. The difference is just slang. For some reason, those guys up in Minnesota call them diggers. A mulch finisher is a field cultivator with a disc gang in front. They do pretty much the same thing as a field cultivator, but with the added disc gang. Those tools are used in the spring ahead of a planter. A vertical till is a glorified disc. To be technically correct, it is a disc with narrower blade spacing and set at a less aggressive angle. Their primary goal is to downsize crop residue and disturb the soil to a slightly less degree than a true disc. Most new VTs, like ours, are usually adjustable. They can be ran aggressively or more passively depending on the goal. You can run those in both the spring and the fall, but they are primarily fall tools. A ripper is a general term for a heavy tillage tool used in the fall. Most of the time, a ripper has disc gangs and big shanks. They move a tremendous amount of soil to incorporate residue and break up and compaction. The goal is to dry the ground as quickly as possible in the spring by revealing as much bare soil as possible. Theoretically, the heavily tilled soil should also allow water to permeate better, though it also opens the door for a lot of washing. There are a lot of different types of rippers, so the name is very broad. We have a disc ripper and an in-line ripper. I hope this helps some…

    • @chrissyfrancis8952
      @chrissyfrancis8952 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aTrippyFarmer YES it does! It’s the slang that confuses me the most! Makes total sense that Minnesota uses rippers bc their soil (they call it gumbo)is very dense, black, sticky & WET, tough to drain. They get a lot of snow/rain, just lays in the fields. Alabama, Florida & Texas fields are sandy, they just VT to chop debris then build furrows ahead of planters bc it’s light & dry. Ohio, Illinois, Indiana & Iowa are in the middle. Every field is different everywhere, so is every farmer from no till to deep till. SO interesting. Nothing like prepared dirt ready to plant, even in my little gardens. Thank you.
