Imperial playing by Kocsis, as always and precise and tasteful conducting by Fisher, as usual. The nuances and colours of the orchestra are dazzling. My trouble stems from this concerto itself, so lisztian (despite a wagnerian start), meaning alternating genius fulgurating troves and truly pompier Meisterstücke.
It's even funnier if you knew that Liszt intended that melody as a joke. "Das versteht ihr alle nicht, haha" (none of you understand this) is meant to be sung to the tune.
Never was a big fan of Liszt’s music. Brilliance, dramatic, daring; except in most cases I am not moved. I find my mind and thoughts wandering because what I hear does not engage me. His concepts and themes seem derivative and somewhat contrived but fall below inspirational. They simply do not resonate in my soul after I listen. I suspect it may be that his nature and personality lacked the spiritual depth and breath of say a Chopin, or Schumann who were his contemporaries. This has been my experience since I first heard his first piano concerto close to fifty years ago. Not to disparage him but chiefly a matter of personal taste and musicality. PWG
@Wildboarhunter As you know Chopin was fatally tubercular and depressed from it. Liszt had genius as well, and was a friend to Chopin. Schumann had organic brain syndrome which was mistaken for Bipolar depression time has shown
Superb! Kocsis is an amazing pianist!
Это великолепное произведение и исполнение. Браво! и спасибо за пост.
Great Liszt , great composition.
Insanely good!

0:17 - 0:20 Principal theme of the E flat Major Concerto! Ivan Fischer without score! Really amazing!
Ezt így kell játszani! Kiváló!!
At 8:48 in comes Tamas Koo, cellist. I love this part.
Me too, Nancy! Beautifully played and blending seamlessly
Wonderful. So sorry to hear he has had heart problems. This playing is extraordinary.
Fantastic!
Desde que escuche la primera vez me enganche con El Suspiro ,en la película Una Llama Mágica ( Jorge Bolet ) espectacular fin de films 🌹
i love this piece so much, Liszt are ahead of his time. 12:18 i love this 3:17 is good to
Wonderful! Thanks alot
Kocsis Zoltán az 1970-es évektől a földkerekség egyik legjobb zongoraművésze s legkitűnőbb karmestere. Egy újabb "Beethoven", mint előadóművész!!!
very good!
awesome!!!
1986?? Amazing. Even Richter is not so good in this music. The first oboe began wrong, but the performance is outstanding.
Could you name what Richter is not good at? You must be kidding....
@@miroslavmminev Richter was a giant. But Kocsis in that music convince me more
What's the problem with the beginning of the first oboe? It's absolutely all right.
@@miroslavmminev Richter was not an etalon.
@@OsvaCola Richter was not a giant,so many pianists better than he.

Could you name the year and venue?
Budapest...1985...
Music Academy Budapest
4:50 - 4:51 min. 🤔nobody else realized?'
LOL. One minute of silence for that poor string.
Funny Liszt Concerto No. 1 theme from Kocsis as the orchestra tuned.
It's even funnier if you knew that Liszt intended that melody as a joke. "Das versteht ihr alle nicht, haha" (none of you understand this) is meant to be sung to the tune.
Yes! From what I've seen of Mr Koscis in interviews, he had a very playful sense of humour 🤍
Only Cziffra is so good! magyar also!
Yes! Cziffra was and still the best forever.
Sorry, but Cziffra was not serious enough. Too much like Liberace.
Strange ending.
how?

@@elmiramuradova561 I assume this is Russian? You’ll have to translate to English, thank you. PWG

I believe Liszt’s first piano concerto is one of the greatest masterpieces of the ninteenth century, whether we like it, or not!
It just is!
