At 13:00 into this video he stated about his radio caller being baptized with the Holy Ghost and he mentioned “folks it’s not in God’s word but Matthew 3:11 John says I baptize with water but the One that comes after me shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire ! The Holy Spirit dwells within us if we so choose not to grieve it , it’s just we don’t know much about but this video was a good try at it ! One thing I’ve learned it’s all about Jesus and we MUST try to mirror our life like his .
John's purpose was to get the people ready for the coming of the Messiah. Isaiah said of him, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God'" (Isaiah 40:3). In the Old Testament, he was compared to the prophet Elijah and it was said of John, "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse" (Malachi 4:5-6). This is what John did. He taught people to leave sins behind, to repent and get ready for the Messiah. "In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!'" (Matthew 3:1-2). He was a no-nonsense preacher who was quite blunt in his scoldings (Luke 3:1-18). John's baptism was stated to be unto repentance; that is, it led up to repentance and the forgiveness of sins (Matthew 3:11). Jesus' baptism, however, made people followers of Christ. "After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized. Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized. For John had not yet been thrown into prison. Then there arose a dispute between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purification. And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified--behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!" John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven. "You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before Him.' "He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. "He must increase, but I must decrease"" (John 3:22-30). "Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples)" (John 4:1-2). Yes, people who had been baptized by John were baptized again into Jesus' baptism. Much later Paul runs across twelve men who had been baptized by John but not into Jesus' baptism. "And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" So they said, "Into John's baptism." Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus" (Acts 19:1-5). The concept of a baptism of fire comes from a statement made by John the Baptist. "And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire" (Matthew 3:10-12 and also in Luke 3:16-17). This is the only time the concept of baptism is connected with fire. The word "baptism" means a complete immersion, and so he is talking about complete immersion in fire. From the full statement of John, we see that the fire here deals with the separation of the just from the wicked and the eternal punishment of the wicked. The baptism with the Holy Spirit is for the just, but the baptism in fire is for the wicked. Basically John is stating that he, as a prophet of God, was given authority to convert people. But Jesus would be greater than he because Jesus has the authority to both convert people and to destroy the unconverted. "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell" (Matthew 10:28). Starting with Acts 2, the baptism taught by the disciples had a different purpose than the baptism of John. Paul talks about this at length: "Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:3-11).
@@davidbridges6450 I don’t disagree with what you replied at all I know is very few COC preachers preach on this subject in the rural part of the country where I am nor do the members sitting in the pews know much about the Holy Spirit at 61 years old my time here is short and I’m trying to get Heaven and I have to have the Holy Spirit dwell in me or Satan will over take me !
he didn't say Holy Spirit baptism wasn't mentioned in God's word, but that what the caller was going to say afterwards would not be found there. try 12:34
To say that people don't understand the Holy Spirit for today is an understatement. I am writing a lesson on Sanctification. Jesus opened my eyes to say the least.
“You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.” Romans 8:9 “Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.” 1 John 3:24 I don’t know how else to interpret these passages other than to say the Holy Spirit dwells within me if I’m a true believer.
In Lk 1:17 was John the Baptist indwelled by Elijah? For that matter does Rom 8:9 mean a literal indwelling by Christ and 1 Jn 3:24 mean a literal indwelling by God the Father? Spirit (pneuma) doesn't necessarily mean a supernatural entity; it can also be metaphorical. If I faithfully keep the written commandments then it should be indistinguishable from being possessed by a supernatural entity driving me to comply with the commandments that he inspired to be written.
At the beginning he says it's a denominational doctrine that the Holy Spirit indwells me. At 34:20 he says the Holy Spirit indwelling me controls my life. The inconsistency throughout the video is a tragedy.
On of the things I see with the comments made is the fact that the historical context is always left out. The fact is that the Holy Spirit was given to the disciples during the first century church (Acts 8:14-19). The question that needs to be asked today, does this happen today?
Does the coc believe in the Holy Spirit at all? 1 Corinthians 12:13 very clearly tells us that the Holy Spirit baptizes us into Christ. It's a spiritual baptism into the body of Christ performed by God. Instead they physically baptize people in water and then say it is an operation of God when it clearly is performed by man.
Yes this is one of the most controversial issues within our fellowship. Most of us that believe in the indwelling Holy Spirit, would deny the miracles or the gifts of the Spirit would have ceased when the apostles passed.
@SteveO410beast Being placed into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit would be a miracle, i guess, but however one thinks of it, we are certainly not saved outside the body of Christ.
Thank you for teaching the Truth the discussion of the Holy Spirit can become divisive in the Church and other groups as well God bless your efforts brother Don
Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also AFTER THAT YE BELIEVED, YE WERE SEALED WITH THAT HOLY SPIRIT of promise, - Sealed is a stamp of approval with signs and wonders?? One problem! The verse says AFTER THAT YE BELIEVED they were sealed. Signs and wonders might have helped them believe but the signs and wonders didn't seal them in any way. I love listening to y'all just to hear how you twist scriptures to make them say what they don't. You take plain English and turn it into a word salad. Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby YE ARE SEALED UNTO THE DAY OF REDEMPTION. How can people that have been around the Bible that long do this.
Between those 2 Ephesians passages you brought up along with the entirety of Romans 8, I think it’s clear the Holy Spirit is with us today to seal us for redemption upon belief, bear witness with our spirit that we’re children of God, and help us in our weakness.
What’s the the promise?? The indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit. This comes to us when we are baptized into Christ, receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit.
@dwbid42 If you go back and look at the podcast Once Saved Always Saved, Don does the same thing, in fact he comes right out and admits he does not believe the Word of God!! It's there for all to hear. Though Don is a false teacher, I hope he actually has saving faith, but I am skeptical, as his salvation is based upon his works. The following applies to this podcast: . In scripture, a seal is used to: Guarantee security or indicate ownership. Secure Jesus' tomb (Matthew 27:66). Used figuratively for authentication, confirmation, proof, security, or possession. Be treasured and stored up by God against sinners. Be something stamped as authentic or as a mark of possession. It should also be noted there is a such a vast and extreme difference between God Almighty's seal, and that of man. Thus, when God says a man is sealed by the Holy Spirit, one should not normally need to say "How? I don't believe it!! Show me proof!" God is responsible for giving me His word and when God said He sealed something, I do not have to analyze, anything. I do not have to apply a reference book to provide additional explanation, nor do I have to ponder any evidence. Why?!?! Because by FAITH and WISDOM, there exists no power that can break God Almighty's seal!!!
16:00 “If God knows what I have need of before I ask, he doesn’t need the Holy Spirit to tell God what I’m trying to say” This part of the video is missing one thing… the fact that the Holy Spirit IS God. So the Holy Spirit helping in our weakness IS God helping in our weakness, through the person of the Holy Spirit. It doesn’t change the fact that Jesus is our mediator.. Jesus is God too. Jesus is the reason why we can go to the Father ourselves since he tore the veil, but that doesn’t mean the Holy Spirit can’t help with the wording like Romans 8:26 says. And why can the Holy Spirit help us? Because He knows our spirit in and out. He’s the one who bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God (Romans 8:16).
But why would the Father need any help in understanding the wording of my prayers? Matthew 6:8 states; "Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him." The Father is separate from the Holy Spirit, yes they are both posses the divine nature, yet separate from each other. If the Father already knows, why the need for the Spirit to interpret the saints prayer?
@ that could also be like saying why does the father need the son to be our mediator. I don’t know why it was set up that way but that’s how scripture describes it. Yes the father, son, and Holy Spirit are all separate but they are all God and there is only one God. They are different parts of the same body. My brain might know all things but it still needs help from my hands to accomplish tasks and both my brain and hands are still me. The father needs the Holy Spirit to accomplish certain things just like he needed the son to accomplish our salvation. That’s why the doctrine of the Trinity is so important to orthodox Christianity because the nature of God described in text is a triune God.. God is more than just God the father.
I am sad to hear God died and all we have is a book. Please let me know when His funeral will be, I would like to attend. The secular humanism filling this video is most enlightening. I am so glad we don't need God anymore. You are truly encouraging!
