    Thank God for the MPC Renaissance. I just hook the beat up, hit export audio, then drag the files into logic for mixing lol Great video. I use to have an MPC 2000 classic back in the days and storage wasn't an issue for me but technology hadn't advanced yet so I was use to the floppies, but now it would drive me crazy lol

    yo, been makin beats for 7 years now and have been studying hip hop ever since i got hooked on it as a child...the first cats i ever heard on the beat were : LORD FINESSE, BUCKWILD, DJ MUGGS , AND DJ PREMIER and i got obsessed with beats... i just had to try and make some hypnotizing shit like that myself. my friend told me about fl studio and pro tools back then. i had never even seen a mpc before except glimpses of them in videos and barely knew what the fuck they were...so i started making shitty beats on fl studio teaching myself everything i know today just by experimenting, i had so much fun wich kept me going even though i struggled from time to time...my beatmaking started getting pretty nice and i started getting that proud satisfactional feeling when playing my beats.
    after many many sleepless nights of obsessive beatmaking i started getting curious of using hardware... i did some research and thought i would try it out mainly because i wanted something fresh to work with and was getting frustrated with sitting at my computer...it didnt feel true.
    my friend hooked me up with an sp555 and i struggled so much with that thing...i ended up selling it and buying an mpc 2000 classic and a whole new world opened up for me, it was frustrating at first with the low memory capacity and floppy disk shit and no built in effects like a dat but the freedom of just turning off ur computer and start jammin with cut up sounds made me smile...
    i stopped using fl a couple of days later and began my mpc journey, i bought my sp555 back to use it as a fx processor and expanded the memory on the mpc and we have been happily married ever since....
    with DAT i felt like a spoiled little brat that had too much and was never satisfied.
    with my MPC i get more creative because of the limitations, grittier sound and at the end of the day i learn to appreciate my beats more.
    peace from the land of ice and snow!

      Great story, it's resonates with me very well because I too started with FL and was frustrated. The mpc changed my whole production and music creation concept for the good. Thanks for sharing your story! Be Blessed.

    I have the MPC 1000 with just the CF reader and it is undoubtedly fire. Loading samples straight from the PC using the USB on the back is super easy. Recording in from any source is super easy. It feels great to play (had to get the fat pads). These machines are old but they are truly a pleasure to use.

    • @Altruwest
      @Altruwest  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JazzMatic1967 Hey Fam, I've only used the MPC 5000 a hand full of times and I thought it was cool as far as some of the features go such as built in synth, built in ADAT out, Built in Hard drive. I always wondered why they went for 16 bit instead of 24 Bit, that was a mistake in my opinion. I also expected that they would expand on the software integration with that system, similar to what they started with Aksys on the MPC 4000. I also thought that the initial sampler software it came with was very weak compared to the MPC 4000. They of course updated the software with a ton more features but it I cant really speak on it overall since I only used the first version of the OS. Despite its shortcomings versus the MPC 4000, the MPC 5000 was still very capable as a sequencing sampler and is still viable for production today.

    great video bro!!! i currently use a mpc 4000 but started with a 2000 then got me 1000 nd resolved into the 4000 i also use a motif along with it... my short cut into recallin patches is name the sequence number on motif with name of track, the midi data will recorded on mpc but the instrument is playing from motif therefore i hit record on motif as an attemp to record but i just tap a key just so that when i save that bank on the motif it will keep each track in order nd doesnt jump back to default when rebootng motif.. i also name the sequence on mpc with the same name nd save program aswell this way ive avoided everything u mentioned because its def frustrating... i remember having the mo phat and having to write down the names nd numbers to each sound it was crazy..

    Loved the video, brother. Quick question: I am a beginner. Everyone keeps telling me to stay away from the older MPC's and stick with the newer models. However, I love the sound of the 200XL. I am thinking about purchasing a refurbished 2000XL, but I am worried that I will have trouble in tracking out the drums, samples, basslines and sequences created in the MPC and properly tracking it out to Ableton Live. Can you drop any advice, thoughts or comments?

    • @Altruwest
      @Altruwest  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey fam! If you get an XL, get one with the 8 outs and the MCD reader. Tracking out is simple if you have a multi channel audio interface that can support at least 8 inputs. Using an older MPC can be expensive but rewarding.

    What I do is... whatever I do on the MPC 2000 when I am finished is sample the individual track sequences to SliceX in FL Studio. So every sequence and sound plays the same within FL Studio like it did on the MPC.

  • @khylank6757

    So I'm thinking about getting either a MPC 2000XL or maybe like a MPC 4000. I would prefer to get a 2000XL because I like just the idea of it as well as the sound, but I am a bit worried about the memory. What's your opinion?

    • @Altruwest
      @Altruwest  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      32MB of RAM is fine for sampling records and drums. Make sure you get
      the XL with a Hotswap MCD drive as mentioned in this video. The 4000 is a
      sampler you get if your interested in making instrument/keyboard
      patches as well. Its sampler RAM and Storage make it much more of a
      workstation than the XL.

  • @battlemode
    @battlemode 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I generally sample everything with the MPC rather than use file transfer. All the MPCs will have a distinctive (if subtle) sound owing to their varying hardware and unless you're after straight out fidelity you're crazy to miss out on that little variation in the sound you get with each machine. For me it's less of an interruption on your workflow that jumping into a menu and plucking them from a computer.

    • @Altruwest
      @Altruwest  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, sampling your sound is much more organic and provides you with a bit more unique texture.

  • @themdmisthemtrx

    The 25hundo is a beast! The only issue I’ve experienced is that it doesn’t take the latest cf cards with over 4gb storage! I bought a 16gb San disk cf card to store more sounds recently but the mpc couldn’t read it so I had to get the older standard cf cards and those worked fine. This is somewhat annoying but I’m not too bothered by it because dj premier still keeps a library of floppy disks for his mpc 60 and still produces some crack so who am I to complain about cf cards !!

    • @Altruwest
      @Altruwest  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely can relate, I had to order some original SanDisk CF cards for my old MPC 2000XL. 4GB is a ton of storage if you're saving beats only. If you are using it as a hard drive replacement to store all of your drum libraries as well, it can be problematic.

I went into my setup on the mpc and boosted the DB to +12 and it still kinda sounds not as loud as other people's beats i hear online like soundcloud ect.. any suggestions??Thanks for your time G.

    • @Altruwest
      @Altruwest  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +DjFingers Flores Don't get so caught up with Loud, as loud doesn't necessarily mean better sounding. Most people achieve loudness through subtractive EQ, compression and limiting. In some cases people use so much limiting that the song no longer has dynamics and punch, which is not what you want in your mix. Don't chase loudnes, but go for dynamics, fidelity and balance, those are far more important than loudness.

    Is there any way to export maschine files to mpc im using a mpc 1000

    • @Altruwest
      @Altruwest  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +CHANNEL VALIS The easiest way to do it and preserve the sound character from the Maschine is to sample them in to the MPC. Many Maschine sounds use effects such as EQ, Reverb, Compression, and other built in effects. Transferring the wav files alone would not give you the same sound. I always sample sounds from my Maschine into the MPC because Maschine allows me to quickly apply an effect to a sound with a very hands on workflow. I send the new sound out of my outs 3-4 on my interface directly into my MPC and record them as new samples.

      it's better to spend the extra dollar on classic stuff, then to buy china crap for half the price. Just my honest opinion. An mpc 2000xl btw, can be had for less then 600 dollars and is still way better then a NI. You don't need to start classic and break the bank.

I paid $2500 in 1998 for my MPC 2000 Studio Plus. Today, an MPC 2000 Studio Plus can be purchased on ebay for $200-$300. Just make sure the screen is not bad. Hi , is it possible to get that warm kick sound from previous Akai (60, 2000) with the1000 mpc?

      All of the samplers will sound slightly different especially depending on the frequency content of the source. The 2000xl for example cannot represent certain high frequency content as well as the 2500/1000. I think if the band limited sound of the older MPCS appeals to you, run with it and get the real thing! I understand we all want convenience but remember that your art and your vision are worth fighting for.

    9:10 OMG That is exactly what I do with my korg workstation. Instead of using its internal sequencer. I use the MPC 2000's. But my workstation allows me to create saved blank songs with patches, mixes, effects, etc. Recalling that mix is as fast as loading the disk in the workstation. Plus everything is 100% accurate. Unlike the total recall mixes BS I use to deal with on expensive af analogue consoles. I'm glad I'm a middle mf. I grew up in the hardware era and experienced the daw era since that cakewalk BS. So I have no issue with doing either one.

      That method worked wonders for over a decade for me. Glad to hear I'm not alone! 🙏🏿

    I hate the 2000xl and 2000 models they are so overrated and overpopulated out here the 5000 model is so underrated

      I only used the 5000 a few times. I started on the MPC 2000XL so it will always have a sentimental value to me.
