The Rawlings REV1X was $400 and that's a lot of dough! Watch the whole video to get my full opinion. My thoughts were everywhere when I was breaking this glove in. At first I loved it then I hated it then I fell somewhere in the middle. Although it was easier to find problems with the glove it is 100% a high quality glove. Plus it's really cool to see how different this is compared to normal ball gloves.
    Thanks for watching guys!

As a product designer and developer, I'm surprised Rawlings went this route to actually market an "innovative" glove. A baseball glove is one of those products that feels like trying to reinvent the wheel when approaching a new design/material. At the end of the day, it's still a ball glove. And when you wake up in the morning, full leather will always be the true, preferred ball glove as it has been for centuries. New technology will never surpass the tradition on this one. I bet the player who liked it so much so quickly got a pretty check under the table.

Rawlings is one of the biggest leather tanneries in America... The MLB balls will never change from leather and Rawlings is likely gonna hold that contact for the league until the end of time, its not about cutting material cost, its always easy to think that a company is just cutting corners to save a buck and that is true that companies do that all the time.
but for a company like Rawlings that owns there own leather tanneries sourcing hides isnt vary costly to them at all and if im not mistaken Rawlings actually sells hides to various other companies so the cost of producing leather hides isnt an issue at all for Rawlings when there making money off of excess and making money from the products they produce out of the leather themselves.
The fact is that Rawlings is still the biggest name in gloves, if anyone is gonna innovate and reinvent the baseball glove it would be Rawlings, the fact is Rawlings has the money to waste on research and development of products outside the box, that other smaller and less historically significant brands simply cant afford.
For baseball purest the all leather pro preferred and HOH gloves are always gonna be the way to go, but for a young highschool or college kid that wants to look cool and flashy on the field and isnt concerned with glove performance/durability as much, the Rawlings Rev gloves might be for them.
Outfield gloves are big and heavy! I have no doubt that elite Rawlings athletes have expressed a desire for a lighter glove hence Rawlings development of the hyper shell and rev series of gloves...
are they really what players desire though?... i dont think so, i dont think they truly meet the demands and abuse of elite players gear...
my point though is that, I dont think Rawlings is sitting there thinking how can we cheapen our high end gloves, how can we take our gloves that are the standard among elite players/worn by more MLB players then any other brand and make it less expensive to create... the fact they needed to likely create all new machines and/or outsource the plastic materials likely takes away significant cost savings youd think theyre making from the Rev series
but I do think Rawlings is asking themselves how can we increase performance of our products for elite players... and weight savings happens to be a factor for all high level sport equipment. so its no surprise that Rawlings the biggest name in baseball would be experimenting and thinking outside the box when it comes to product development.
And lets not forget, a few years ago Rawlings had a strangle hold on the industry basically Rawlings and Wilson were the only brands making high end elite level leather gloves... but now you got a hand full of small brands making really good gloves not to mention what the glove cowboy has done to revamp the glove departments of brands like Easton and Matucci...
Simply put Rawlings aint the only gloves in town anymore and theyre looking for ways to separate themselves from the rest of the pack again... and again Rawlings can afford the research and development cost of new "innovative" products that none of the others companies really can.

    • @TysonHook-22-
      @TysonHook-22- 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@fishygaming9907 Rawlings is one of Americas largest leather tanneries, back in the day Rawlings use to use the legendary Horween leather which is Americas oldest tannery but for years now Rawlings has owned and operated there own tanneries and even sell off excess to other companies (outside of baseball)... the hyper shell and Rev series of gloves likely cost Rawlings more money to make as they actually likely have to source the materials from other companies and possibly have to create new tooling machines, hire and/or re train workers for the new products.
Heres a thought... maybe Rawlings is the biggest name in baseball and can afford research and development that most other companies cant... maybe like in every other sport the reduction of equipment weight happens to be a performance benefit to the elite players using the equipment... maybe Rawlings and Wilson arent the only two elite level high end leather gloves on the market anymore these days, maybe Rawlings is looking to separate themselves from the rest of the pack and regain market shares by innovating in ways other baseball companies simply cant.
Are the hyper shell or rev series of gloves for me? not at all, but I welcome the innovation from Rawlings and maybe theyll eventually make the perfect light weight elite level glove, until then ill stick to my pro preferred and HOH's but ill continue to pay attention to rawlings latest and greatest "high tech" offerings and maybe theyll strike gold eventually by creating a new glove standard for elite players.

This trend has been happening in the market by several of the big label brands. They have been substituting plastic for leather on the back of their gloves, and marketing it as "innovative".
If we used plastic instead of leather, the gloves would cost us much less to make. It is also costing them much less to make, and instead of lowering the price, they raise it! Great marketing scheme if they can get the ball players to buy into it.
For Tigress... we will stick to leather.

Also, we don't know how it going to be in the later use of the glove so i might look good when you first get but when you use the glove when it starts to become flat and like a pancake. Just my option I don't think it will be worth getting it because when you pay 400$ for a glove you want what you paid for and idk If I would but that glove for that price but that's my option.

Hi, I am introducing baseball equipment-related reviews and videos from foreign TH-camrs to Korea after obtaining permission.
In Korea, rev1x has not been launched yet, so many people are curious about it, but I fell in love with your video. I think he introduced only the parts that people were really curious about.
If it's not rude, can I translate your video and introduce it to Korea? I don't have any other intentions, but I think many baseball players in Korea will like this video and I think they must watching it. And I'll promote your TH-cam channel a lot in Korea. let me know. thanks!

I’m the same way with gloves actually I like it stiff, but with an outfield model that’s not really ideal. That’s why I think it makes more sense for infield gloves in general
