Wow, I never thought I'd find someone who also feels that KH1 is better than KH2. The combat wasn't the greatest compared to what we have now, but it did world exploration better than any of the other games. KH3 was kind of a return to what KH1 did.
Yeah it feels like KH1 is overshadowed a lot of the time 😪 Everyone wants the KH2 feeling back while I'm still chasing that KH1 high 😄
Another KHI True Kingdom here. I agree with a lot of what was said in this video. KHI is a consistent 8.5-9/10 across the board in my opinion. I was so happy to hear appreciation for KHI camera angle as so many people feel it is not good, even in KHI supporters. It helps the worlds feel more, and the enemies feel daunting. KHII for me, feels like a stylish power trip. Which it is cool, and fun, and stylish, but it removed that exploration from the world around you to an exploration of combat. I don't feel like the essence of Kingdom Hearts is its combat though, I think the essence of Kingdom Hearts is in the journey, with all the worlds you go to and all the characters you meet.

You definitely won me over by loving KH1 because that’s exactly how I feel. Interesting that you pointed out the camera angles, never thought about that but it makes sense! KH2 is in between S and A but I can’t deny the love I felt for Roxas, Twilight Town, and the music score ❤

We'll see when I replay them 🤔 I think if memory serves correct Days story was amazing obviously but the combat wasn't that good and the middle of the game drags on forever. Then Recorded story was meh but I remember the combat, platforming and minigames were hella fun.
I am definitely a lover of the card mechanics of chain of memories. I do not get the people who say the mechanics are bad. I totally understand if people don't vibe with what chain of memories is putting down, you do you, but the complexity and depth on offer in the card system is insane. Every time I've come back to it I've enjoyed it more. There is so much room for strategy with how you build and play your deck. My only wish is that there was more to challenge you in the end game. Also, the pixel art is the GOAT.
FACTS! Maybe its the A.D.D. but I loved the card system. Yeah every time I play the GBA verison I switch my deck strategy. There's SO many different ways you can go about play style especially when you start including Heartless cards. Very slept on battle system. And I agree with wishing there was more bosses to fight at the end. Like if they re-remake COM they should balance the sieghts and add maybe a new room for each world after you beat the game where its bosses require more thought and strategy with your deck. Something like this secrecy boss is immune to all attacks except Summons and that boss only takes damage from critical hits or just stuff like that. That would push it into an S tier game.
KH1 is the true king. Earned my sub and I can't wait to watch you replay them all. I'm about half way through mine now and it's been wonderful.
I appreciate that! I have to finish my FF1 playthrough first since I only have like 2 or 3 episodes until its done. Then I wanna start KH again. Part of me wants to play/react in cronological order instead of release order to see if it offers a different perspective. What do you think?
@@CerberusUnlikeMike IMO, chronological order only works after playing order of release. The reason being -- the story was written according to order of release. Now that you know the story, it'll be so much better playing chronologically.
If you decide to play through Days when going through the series again, there are a few things I'd recommend that make the game actually fun to play (or, at least, as fun as an action RPG with 8-directional movement and janky controls can get)
1. instead of playing on DS, or emulating the game normally, you should use Melon Mix, which is a modified version of MelonDS specifically made for KH:Days, it does stuff like make the game wide-screen, and putting a minimap in the corner so that you don't need a second screen showing at all times.
2. Understand that a large portion of the game is actually spent setting up your abilities in the menu, bringing the right spells, the right stats, the correct setup for the mission you're entering is half the game, and the consequences of bringing the wrong setup is to be stuck doing something un-fun for an exceedingly long time, an example of this is on the missions where you must defeat Emerald Serenades, these missions are PAINFUL if you don't bring a blizzard spell, or a keyblade that can inflict freeze, since it will just keep flying in a loop, and without freeze your only option will be to do chip damage as it passes you, and it takes FOREVER to do it that way.
3. Understand that each spell is unique and that, despite the naming convention, none of the spells are upgrades of other spells, for example, Cure is a burst heal that you'd use just like in any other KH game, but Cura is a regen spell that gives healing over time, which is only useful if you're taking damage consistently, and Curaga is an AoE regen field that's really only good in multiplayer, another example is Blizzard being a basic damage projectile, but Blizzara being a tracking projectile that can hit slow moving enemies multiple times but struggles against things that move fast, and Blizzaga being a mine that explodes when things get close

Nostalgia is one of the most important aspects to what a true king game should be. I think that’s why I can never leave games like RuneScape and kh1. When you grow up with something you’re so fond of it’s kind of like part of your soul and personality at that point.

Hey I appreciate your opinion and thanks for being so respectful about it! I actually ended up moving KH2 to low S tier a little later in the video. I love 2 but since its usually everyones favorite game I end up have to explain why its not mine personally.

Re chain of memories should be D for dog doo doo. Considering not finishing that game lol.
The only reason its not lower is because I still enjoy the story and Axel, Larxene, Marluxia, Namine and Replica Riku are the high lights for me.
in no universe is KH3 and Fragmentary Passage even in the same zipcode as 2. I get that you dont wanna say the same thing as everyone else, but the A tier in totality is just some goofy shit.
The case for 1 being top dog on the other hand is actually legit; it's the only coherent story in the series, its to date the best characterization of Sora, its got the best level designs, and they actually contribute to the story, no fucked up pacing issues, interesting boss design that requires different strategies, and its pretty much as good as you could reasonably expect the first attempt at a game like this to be.
I respect that. I actually ended up moving KH2 into the S tier a little later in the video cause I came to realize wait a minute A tier is not correct for me.
Its not that I want to have a different opinion than the masses and go against the grain. KH2 being my least favorite main title is genuinely how I feel. The point of the video was based on my memory how would I rank these games now, then I'm going to go through the games again and rerank them to see if my opinions changed.
Based on my first experience of Fragmented Passage it felt like I enjoyed it more but I acknowledge later in the video that I expect that game to move down a tier.
As far as my opinion on KH3 being better than KH2 that would need its own whole video lol. I probably will do that after im done with all the playthroughs if my opinion ends up not changing for sure.
