The Las Vegas Golden Knights is an NHL expansion team. They didn’t move from anywhere. The Bay Area still has the SF Giants, the NBA Warriors, and the 49ers, along with the San Jose Sharks (NHL). The mayor of Oakland was recalled in the November election and they are having a new election for mayor. Increased crime was the issue, but other issues, including the loss of a MLB team indicated a lack of investment in the city.
When I was a kid, I was an A's fan. Sure, I was a Brewers fan first, but that just made it more epic when the A's came to Milwaukee and my dad said he had tickets. I didn't even care who won, I just wanted to see all my players. Rickey Henderson was and still is my favorite player of all time.
As a Californian all I have to say about the A's and Raiders moving to Las Vegas is, good luck with that. Attendance was low because football and baseball failed to invest in quality on field product. And they left because they wanted to make all the profit while getting a free ride by the city or state paying for a new stadium.
I’ve been an A’s fan since late 70’s. Them moving is the most painful thing to experience besides family/friends dying. Being there on the last game felt like a funeral with 55000 people. I hope nobody else has to experience the same fate.
This is the 4th move in the 124-year history of the franchise. From 1901 to 1954, the A's were in Philadelphia, where they won several World Series. They moved to Kansas City and became the Kansas City A's until they moved to Oakland in 1968. Oakland takes a back seat in the Bay Area to the other sports teams from San Francisco. Oakland is one of the smallest sports markets with Major League franchises. The Oakland/California Seals were part of the NHL's first expansion class in 1967 but could not develop a fan base. They moved in 1976 and became the Cleveland Barons, which folded in 1978, merged with the Minnesota North Stars, which are now the Dallas Stars. For the record, The Golden State Warriors also originated in Philadelphia as the Philadelphia Warriors in 1946 before moving to San Francisco in the 1963 to become the San Francisco Warriors. They played at the Cow Palace in the SF suburb of Daly City before moving to Oakland in 1971, becoming the Golden State Warriors.
This is kind of different than the raiders move. Raiders fans from all over the country, and even the world, travel to Vegas for games. Which is easier because there are only 9 home games every year and each game is sort of a big event for the city drawing in tons of tourists. I can’t imagine the A’s drawing in much tourism for the city except maybe if they can make it to the World Series. So what do the Vegas tax payers get out of this? They want to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in their tax revenue for a new stadium to watch the A’s, a team that probably doesn’t have many initial fans in the area? Not sure this makes any sense…
The move from Oakland to San Francisco is a big deal because culturally and economically Oakland has struggled a lot more and is always looked at like the more dangerous and poorer city next to San Fran. Although they're just a few minutes away from each other over the bridge. Since the Warriors have moved to San Francisco the atmosphere is still good but way more corporate
You guys definitely need to look into the Montreal Expos (⚾️), Seattle SuperSonics (🏀), San Diego Chargers (🏈), etc. Greed was the main reason these teams left, even if they were moving to another city that had a smaller market or lack of a fan base. Also, you should look into the Sixer’s drama (not talking about this embarrassing season) into the new arena!
My childhood Team who’s Works Series games I attended so many times in the 70’s. They are now gone for good . Going to Vegas . Very sad for Oakland & The Bay Area .
At the top of California's troubled cities: Oakland. NFL and NHL already have 32 teams each. MLB and NBA have 30 each, so I could see an NBA expansion to Vegas. The south needs an MLB expansion team, as there are none in Tennessee & North Carolina. (San Diego will have the 30th MLS team this year.)
Las Vegas' NHL team is the Vegas Golden Knights. The did not move from anywhere. They are an expansion team. The NHL team which just moved is the Arizona Coyotes. They moved from Arizona to Utah and as of now they are called the Utah Hockey Club. They will get a real new name sometime soon. The A's should change their name in my opinion. Start over in a new city with a new name.
It's hard to believe with all of its history... but the Yankees tore down Yankee Stadium and built a new one that opened in 2009. They built it a block away from the site of the old stadium and built it to look like the old stadium, but with more room and all of the upgrades you'd expect in a modern stadium.
The difference between USA sports and Euro sports, is USA is truly an experience. You go to these amazing stadiums and are blown away; you have everything you want in a safe comfortable environment. And accompanied by great cities that offer a great time. And than there's Manchester or any Euro city. Nothing to offer, boring, and the cities they are located in are as boring as watching paint dry. If you claim that American tourists are going to flock to see a sport, we really don't give a shit about, good luck with that.
California is the most populous and richest state but they have too many baseball, and basketball teams. The sports market is over saturated. Not to mention the hockey, and soccer (football) teams as well. There is no way that the A’s could longer compete against a much more richer Dodgers, Angels, and Giants team and still expect to attract new fans who would buy tickets and merchandise. The smartest thing to do was to move to a populous state like Nevada that has NO baseball team and to a city like Las Vegas that attracts visitors from all over America and the world. Virgin market for baseball.
every sports team seems to be leaving Oakland, California first it was the Oakland Raiders now the Oakland Athletics now it's just College teams no professional teams besides Golden State Warriors
I went to an A's game in Oakland about 7 or so years ago and what a joke. The area sucks, the environment is terrible, the food was terrible, the stadium was just a giant chunck of concrete with a field of grass in the middle
Yea but like the video said there is little to no economic benefit for the city and workers the rich owners just want to save a few hundred million and rake in all the profits while citizens pay for it. If they don’t pay they threaten to leave
The A's will be moving to a minor league stadium in Sacramento until a new baseball stadium is built in Las Vegas. That's where the problem lies. The greedy owner, JOHN FISHER. -- nobody wants to work with him. Not the city of Oakland, not the city of Sacramento, not the City of Las Vegas, not the city of Salt Lake City. -- He didn't want to spend money on a new stadium, and he has more than 3 occasions to do so! But he wants the stadium to be 100% taxpayer funded. -- He's forced to spend money this off-season so he wouldn't get penalized by MLB to not spend money for years. -- in the last 2 seasons, he's treated the fans like absolute garbage! In the last year in Oakland, what'd he do to thank the fans of Oakland after +50 years? Oh, just tripled the ticket prices. Despite having the lowest payroll, and one of the lowest wins than any other team!
The City of Oakland HAS to have set a record. In the span of about 4 years, they went from having THREE professional sports franchises - A's, Raiders and Warriors. AND...they were all in ONE location. Fast forward to present day and they have managed to let THREE professional sports organizations ALL leave Oakland. Going from THREE professional sports teams to ZERO is shameful.
Golden State Warriors moved across the bay from Oakland to downtown San Francisco in a new arena. Still in the same metro area.
I'm pretty sure it's closer to Oakland

I went to an A's game in Oakland in 1998. The Coliseum was an old eye sore of a stadium even back then

Giants are also originally from NY
@@user-cs4fg1rm5k I know this, but we're talking about Oakland.

3:42 the mayors now been indicted by the FBI she’s going to jail😅

Maybe… they’re playing in Sacramento California next year….
Poor Oakland

Nobady is attached to the stadium in Oakland. It has been a dump for a long time. But the city wouldn't build a new one.
Yea but like the video said there is little to no economic benefit for the city and workers the rich owners just want to save a few hundred million and rake in all the profits while citizens pay for it. If they don’t pay they threaten to leave
WNBA is getting a new team the Golden State Valkyries they will play where the Golden State Warriors play
Vegas also stole away the Aces and they promptly won some championships
Its never going to be built in Vegas. The A's will stay in Sacramento. Vegas will get an expansion team perhaps.
I went to many Yankee-A's games in Oakland. And aside from Tampa, it really was a shit stadium.
The A's will be moving to a minor league stadium in Sacramento until a new baseball stadium is built in Las Vegas.

That means Sacramento or Las Vegas don't want to work with John Fisher.
Been an A's fan my whole life and already stopped following. Not routing for a team in Vegas.
I dont blame them who wants to stay in oakland.
A’s fans! What a ridiculous thing to say!
Are you guys athletic supporters ?
Ill try to laugh.

Vegas isn't a baseball town!
The Vegas AAA teams have been well-supported since 1983.
