Cheap car that from the outside looks incredibly basic but once you're inside, you have everything you need. A small cheap car with cruise control, android auto, bluetooth, reverse camera and A/C is absolutely phenomenal. Just because a car is cheap it doesn't mean it needs to be poorly equipped.
just bought this for my girlfriend as her first car since she just got her driver license.. and now I'm the one that use it daily since it's much easier to drive than a pajero.
I have a 2019 GT and I absolutely love it. Driven it from Adelaide to Wollongong and it was excellent. Fun to throw around the hills of Adelaide also. Great to see an honest, realistic review of these ‘cheap and cheerful’ city cars.
I've had my Picanto GT (1L Turbo) for just over a year, it is very fun to drive. The strong torque and long gearing means on the highway you have no problem overtaking or joining the fast lane without holding people up. The car is very well set up for Urban/City streets, and the turbo gives you the confidence to do things that other city cars would have you thinking twice about.
Hi Paul, you got it spot on. My wife,s 2012 Picanto 1.0 with 37000 km is perfect around town, take care on a bumpy road with four adults in. Rims are really flimsy, so don,t hit a pot hole.
Bought my 2021 Kia Picanto S automatic brand new, am now over a year and a half of driving it and would say it's the best car I've ever owned! I picked the S model over the top spec models (GT line and GT) not because of affordability but because I actually like the look of the base S model better. It's very fun to drive, handles bumps very smoothly, light steering, quiet engine, love how the cup holders in the centre console can easily be folded away and used again when needed, very roomy for a small car. It is classed as a micro range car but to me looks and feels more like a light/small car. Despite its low price it is great value for money and quite well built and great quality inside and out and comfy to sit in too, even on long journeys 👌 (travelled from Brisbane to sunny coast Hervey Bay and back one time in the Picanto without an issue). Quite economical on fuel, easy to get in and out of for me due to my disability. Love the peace and mind of the 7 year warranty and roadside assist included 👍.
Thank you Paul for reviewing the Kia Picanto, the best selling car in the ultra small/city car segment. As Aussie cities get ever bigger & as SUVs now 'rule the roost' (for now anyway), a v small 'affordable' car for shopping, commutes, parking etc, with the occasional long country drive, make kia's baby a logical buy for the A to B segment. Almost a replacement for the ever present Hy Getz.
Remember that this is the base model being reviewed. As you go up in model line then added items make the car even more appealing. I bought my wife the 2021 GT Line and she loves it.
Hey buddy, i have an old model hatchback Toyota yaris and i just love how you reviewed this small car, now i love it, that's the problem with American car reviewers, they think all these small cars are a joke so they miss out on a good opportunity, glad you're around man. I want one now.
You buy these cars knowing what they are. Simple, no fuss A to B type motoring. Love to see a review of the new 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage. We just bought a new LS Mirage, and whilst its leisurely off the line, it seemed to handle the HWY on cruise control better than the KIA. Great review of the KIA and keep up the great work all!
I took one for a spin the other day and I loved it. It's for my wife, but despite me being a 6'3" male I'm now considering one too. I was surprised how good it looked and felt. Also, it doesn't sound anywhere near as bad as a Toyota Aygo for example. It's only a bit noisy if you need to do a quick acceleration, for example if you need to overtake someone. Of course the automatic gearbox is a bit slow and so on, but the 2021 Picanto really feel like a real car. Not mopedo-like such as the Toyota Aygo for example. I really liked everything about it, except that it didn't have a telescopic steering wheel. It wasn't a problem for me being so tall, but my wife is rather short so the seating distance to the steering wheel was borderline for her.
Mad that my (almost) brand new Corsa doesn't have wireless Apple Carplay/Android Auto, nor does it have parking sensors or cameras, but this car that's just over half the price has both. They've really hit the nail on the head for a city car; no frills, not overly powerful, just does what you need it to do (get you from point A to point B) with a few modern luxuries to boot. If it's anything like the older models I can see why they're so confident with the 7 year warranty; I have a 2008 plate Picanto sitting outside and the only major work it's needed is a clutch replacing (twice), other than that just routine wear and tear stuff. Still drives fine although when the wind gets bad and you're going... the speed limit... on the motorway, you do sometimes feel like you're about to tip over
Go to the Scotty Kilmer review I've learnt heaps like my dream car BMW (big money waste) are endless money boots so as a result I'm driving a 94 celica and Mrs runs around in a used Lexus

Today my wife and I bought a 2024 base model Kia Picanto. Why? Because we sought to replicate the softer ride of our shopping trolling, our ever faithful 2004 Hyundai Getz.
i purchased a Picanto GTLINE manual mid 2020 and immediately took it on a 1000km bonding exercise thru the environs west of Brisbane and couldn't fault it. Comfort, fuel economy and performance all satisfactory. Ok passing a Bdouble requires a fair bit of forethought and 16" low profiles on coarse chip surface might be a tad noisy for some but a fun little package with 7yr wty for under 20 grand. Just got this car for 2 weeks instead the Hyundai Santa Fe Highland which I ordered in March 2021 and they never gave me the ETA. In such case I've cancelled the order and bought this Kia Picanto for this moment, until the auto mobile market supply back to normal . I'm very surprise to the features of this car which is more than I expected with a car for this price.
I had one of these for about 18mths and once everyone at work stopped laughing at me and asking if my car had shrunk, it was a groovy little car. I’m considering getting one but would likely need to use it on the highway or freeway for a lot of trips. What exactly would you say makes it suffering in such cases? Thanks!
OK for my daughters first car shortly, but I am no fan of space saver tyres! There is no reason a full size spare cannot be included as standard. I just looked at a new Kia Stinger GT, and it come with a space saver run flat!!! Those little yellow tyres in a supposed Grand Tourer, high performance car. You do not want that in a freeway environment, or hundreds miles away from the nearest country town, especially if on tour.
@@nicsmjs7170 GT-Line automatic is $19,490.00 driveaway. Definitely not that expensive, and yes you can get a Rio, a Swift or a MG3 for that price (which are bigger cars) but the price difference isn't significant. Honestly, I would take the smaller size for the awesome styling.
@@jay-uo2bi gt-line looks so much better than the base model imo and sure you can get a Rio for a few extra thousand or two dollars but that's the base Rio which doesn't look nearly as good as the picanto gt-line. It really comes down to what you want.
Paul. It seems that the BASE Picanto has a SOFTER ride because it DOES NOT run on ultra LOW PROFILE tyres. And No Alloy Curb Scratch [wish these options were available on higher grades]
The older models are impressive, you can get almost all the amenities you don't always get on higher end cars, like heated steering wheel, sunroof. My first car Picanto 2012 had both and it felt like the best city car ever, very small, very maneuverable. Can't say if its economical, but its ok.
Hi Paul, any date on when you might review new Kia 2021 Stinger GT? Also the reviews are great, find them helpful and the practical tests are what we all like to see. Keep up the good work.
For the city it perfectly acceptable. If you want a highway cruiser, get yourself something like a camry or a cerato instead. However, I would pick the 5 speed manual over the 4 speed auto every day of the week. The 4 speed just seem so unrefined. I Would like to see a review of the MG3 and see how it stack up. Most of the review here in Australia don't seem to go into too much details about the overall car.
I use it in mixed driving and found it's perfectly confident on the highway but definitely not a relaxing experience. The surprisingly accurate steering and tight suspension kinda works against it on the highway, not enough dead zone in the steering so you're constantly micro correcting. The suspension on bad highway stretches can be tiring, because the suspension on the GT is quite stiff. A Kia Rio would be a much better choice for highway car, only a tad more expensive and virtually all the same goodies.
@@joytech23 I heard the GT has really firm suspension. From memory, the GT-Line and the base model might be a bit softer, while not provide as accurate of steering compared to the GT. With the Picanto being so lightweight, I believe that an additional weak point with the Picanto on freeway driving. Even a slight gust of wind would cause the car to steer in the wrong direction. The thing that prevents me going for the Kia Rio is that the base model doesn't come with Cruise Control (which I think it appalling in 2021), yet the base model Picanto does. You'd need to go up to the Sport to get Cruise Control, which almost equates to the same price of a Kia Cerato.
@@madhardcorenick Yeah the GT suspension is quite firm in comparison to lower trims (not sure about GT-Line?). I drove the base model and it was so much more comfortable but a bit wallowy. The Picanto actually feels very stable/solid on the highway besides aforementioned lack of centre steer dead zone etc.. Wind and trucks are not an issue at all, comparable to driving something much larger. I had no idea the Rio didn't have cruise in base trims, very odd... I actually wanted the Rio GT-Line, but I did not want to exceed 20k for my first new car.
Hi Paul I think that this is the best review about Kia Picanto. I look forward to all Carexpert reviews. I know that this is off topic but will Australia be getting a new generation CX9 anytime soon seeing that the current shape hasn't changed much. Also will Kia get a 2.5 Litre petrol Turbo engine in the new generation Sportage or the new gen Sorento. Thank you for all your helpful and entertaining reviews.
Hey Ranim - thanks for watching! The updated CX-9 launches in Australia next week. And as for the new turbo engine - it may come in Sportage but it’s unlikely to be offered in Sorento.
@@introvertideas333 only test drive, will pick it up next week from dealer. The drive was ok, no pressure at 60-80, when you drive around 80 it’s 3000rpm. Haven’t try free way above 90. The feeling with the wheel is good in a small car.
I have a GT Line Picanto. My only complaint is that after only a few weeks of purchase, the door seal on the driver’s side has split. I am still waiting to hear from the Dealership if Kia will be willing to replace it. I have never had this happen in any other car I have owned in 30 years of driving.
Hey Paul, great review, and thanks for doing the volume model. As a part of your reviews, would it be possible to comment on if the vehicle can take a full size spare. This one for example obviously has the space saver, but can it facilitate a full size? Also, would that bring the boot floor up to the height of the folded seats. Just a thought, as many of us in rural Australia need the full size spare, and it would open up our choice to know if the car can accept a full size if the owner wants to pay for it. I hope this makes sense. Cheers.
Here in Pakistan I am thinking to buy this one or to get a sedan which cost around 2k dollars more than that ..and that's car also look and feel amazing comes with dual air bag 4/5 crash rating ..comes from a Chinese brand and one from Malaysian.which cost same as picanto .. but I like hatch back more ♥️..so maybe I go for Kia or otherwise alsvin which have a sun roof sedan .. sadly all of them include 2 air bags only but in Europe they give 6 :-( but I am happy lol at least now we got options here too before we have only honda Toyota or Suzuki which quality sucks here compared to global models

Looks like Kia has stepped in and filled the gap that Toyota had with the old Yaris...smart move, as I think this will create brand loyalty with the young drivers who will opt to buy the Picanto over the pricier Yaris...Kia is starting to look more and more “ Toyota-ish” than Toyota 😳

I just looked at a new Kia Stinger GT, and it come with a space saver run flat!!! Those little yellow tyres in a supposed Grand Tourer, high performance car. You do not want that in a freeway environment, or hundreds miles away from the nearest country town, especially if on tour.
Wifey has a 2011 Picanto 3 25k 1 brake pipe 1 foot switch for immobilizer been good car ,still have it .
The GT-Line just looks so good! It's so worth it.
But so expensive for a small car
Great Job!!! enjoyed your presenter abilities and information giving!!! top 10 of youtube reviewers, near Scotty Kilmer!!!
Installing a HikeIt X9 throttle controller (and leaving it in Auto mode) makes the Picanto much more responsive.
@@CarExpertAus That is great news Paul.
Thank you. Can't wait for the reviews :) 😀
Great video! Could you please also review the Mitsubishi Mirage and the MG3. Thanks
I like the picanto but I bought an ignis instead. Has any review compared them?
In Latin markets Picanto got a 0 star, over here they at least include autonomous braking which helps 😅
I own a 2017/2018 White Kia Picanto and I totally love it. I had the roof and the 16 inch mag wheels painted black. I also added sunroof :D
Love it Very fun to drive. Yep drives like a go-cart. It is also like a motorcycle with doors.
0-100 in 11s... Not tooooo bad! A lot of older cars are like this, I could live with this 😅
If you want you can get the GT which could be a bit faster But it’s manual
I'm genuinely surprised to see aussie s buying city cars I thought it was mostly tourer suvs and trucks well also full sized sedans
Just got one this morning. 2021 GT-Line auto
@@introvertideas333 only test drive, will pick it up next week from dealer.
The drive was ok, no pressure at 60-80, when you drive around 80 it’s 3000rpm.
Haven’t try free way above 90.
The feeling with the wheel is good in a small car.
@Rochelle Lewis it is not bad. It is a small car only.
The suspension not as good as Corolla for sure.
1.25L that’s it. But easy to park.
I have a GT Line Picanto. My only complaint is that after only a few weeks of purchase, the door seal on the driver’s side has split. I am still waiting to hear from the Dealership if Kia will be willing to replace it. I have never had this happen in any other car I have owned in 30 years of driving.
great review !
Awesome number plate
Please do a review of the 2024 Kia Picanto GT-Line car!
Great for the price. Personally I'd spend 5k more or so and get the GT Line.
Man, no centre armrest kills it for me
Good review
Hey Paul, great review, and thanks for doing the volume model. As a part of your reviews, would it be possible to comment on if the vehicle can take a full size spare. This one for example obviously has the space saver, but can it facilitate a full size? Also, would that bring the boot floor up to the height of the folded seats. Just a thought, as many of us in rural Australia need the full size spare, and it would open up our choice to know if the car can accept a full size if the owner wants to pay for it. I hope this makes sense. Cheers.
Good job mr paul, we request you do review toyota fortuner also that facelift looks pretty cool
Please review the GT :)
Awesome review paul, exactly matches ur word with the car, its good love this car, got one 2019 model, but 450 sth to service this car. Not so budget car. rips u off one way or other even its cheapest in oz.
Who are you getting to change the oil and filter for $450? For me its less than 200
Great , except for no arm rest.
Here in Europe the Mitsubishi is named Mitsubishi Space Star
For one of the cheapest cars on sale, it has more cupboards than a 80k 79series landcruiser.
Same size as my first car, Ford Festiva
Tiny :-D
Simply the best
Looks like Kia has stepped in and filled the gap that Toyota had with the old Yaris...smart move, as I think this will create brand loyalty with the young drivers who will opt to buy the Picanto over the pricier Yaris...Kia is starting to look more and more “ Toyota-ish” than Toyota 😳
The Picanto isn't a new model. Been around for 20 odd years I'm sure.
@@jackllewellyn746 Picanto been around since about 2004, Yaris/Echo 1999, but were as Toyota has recently been increasing the price of there “entry” level car ( use to be the bench mark for this) Kia has been keeping there “entry” level car low, and I think now is the “bench mark”...Chinese manufacturers not included (MG).
just drove the 2023 version. with so many modern cars i see without headlights on at night....and this has an option to turn them off as well! why? the minimum setting should be auto! this is what new toyotas have. common sense.
Here is the list of features KIA Australia ripped off from this model which is available in other market just shocking!!!!:
1. keyless entry
2.keyless start
3. Lane keeping assist LKA/LKA
4. Heated seat
5. DRIVER FATIGUE WARNING
6. tire pressure monitor
7. Digital Auto climate control
8. Sunroof
9. Auot stop start...........
I have the my19 picanto gt with a stage 2 chip gone from 74kw 177nm to 100kw 225nm at the wheels its now a pocket rocket 0 100 7.5 seconds for a micro car its fast.
Which tune did you use?
I wonder how it would hold up over 5 to ten years.
Far better than a polo remember vw up it failed here in Australia
If it's anywhere near as good as the older models, pretty well. I have a 2008 plate Kia Picanto sitting outside right now, 180k miles on the clock and the only "major" problem I've had with it has been with the clutch (replaced once by the previous owner and once by me), but that's not unreasonable considering how old it is and how many miles it's done.
The Picanto has been in Australia for 5 years already, and the car has a fantastic reliability rating.
Hi Paul, I m interested in buying the new Peugeot 2008. Can please do a review for it
Review KIA Sportage next?
Will wait for the new one to lob 😁
wondering why would you buy this over honda city ? Given the quality of interior and features in the city. But then I wonder why people even buy an MG over city.
Can you please do review on the Triton GSR ?
Hi Paul, could you please review the 2020 BMW 330 d M Sport.
they dont sell the mitsubishi mirage anymore
where can I find the $15,190 price for this car?
When I hear or read Picanto, I think of picante sauce.
I love the design, but the black looks crap to my eye, the white red or that grey colour just does it for me
Thanks
Picanto GT line please
Tengo un Picanto, es más que suficiente para ir de un lugar a otro en la ciudad.
Excellent car
Your durometre test says it all really......
Which is actual fuel comsumtion ?
Paul, Can you please review VW MultiVan 😀
