And that very same No. 95 Aston Martin team wins its division at Le Mans 2014 with Kristian Poulsen, David Heinemeir-Hansson and Nicki Thiim. Can't imagine how emotional it surely was for the Aston team and Poulsen which was part of the ill-fated 2013 team... What a way to honour Simonsen's memory. Already 1 year, R.I.P Allan...
I'm in Le Mans where Danes have felt this and true motor sports fans have been very saddened by it, some gutted. But its motor racing, with its risks,& we should know that.It does not take it away from the fact that Allan has been lost. The family, friends & team will have much sorrow. We can only appreciate Allan & what he was doing.1955 Le Mans led the move to better safety, let's hope the reason for this crash can be found & thus support more safety. Thank you & RIP Allan.
We danes have lost a great pilot, my heart skipped a beat when i saw the accident. My condolences are with his family and friends, i'll miss you Allan Simonsen. R.I.P
My mother has known him since he was 8-9-10 years old .. And now she sees him never again! Can't believe I never gonna see him again! You were and will always be the best racer Allan! R.I.P But can't still believe our family never gonna see you again :'(
Sad to lose a young man this way but fortunately this is so much rarer than it was a few years back. Good to see Tom taking his 9th win and sharing hugs with veteran multiple winner Ickx.
Rip allan le gros booum!je suis d,allonnes a 3kms bien entendu.le gros choc de la part de l.aco.une pensée a toi .bye.deja 8ans.tu nous quitte je crois que ton bolide avant de gros problemes de tenue de route.
This is a very sad day for Denmark. We have lost one of the best racecar drivers :( I'm personally gonna mis Allan. Have met him serval times.. RIP Allan. You'll be missed
"This isn't just a thousand to one shot. This is a professional bloodsport. And it can happen to you. And then it can happen to you again." - Michael Delaney (Steve McQueen), from the 1971 film, "Le Mans"
Man whats wrong with you guys. Making the most disrespectful comments like this. So what you don't like racing. This guy did, he had a passion for what he believes in. At least he died doing what he probably wanted to do since he was young. While a lot of people out there will die working at McDonald's.
i raced enduro karts for 15years, with speeds well over 100 mph, we as racers understand the dangers involved , i've lost friends & it's never easy to go through, It appears Allan got caught out in the corner and the car snapped out on him , they will find out if something broke or if a tire failed, they were running the soft compound, My heart goes out to the family & team,We do this sport for the passion & history of it, & our own personal reasons. It is what makes road racing what it is.
"Following the ACO’s media statement concerning the tragic death of Aston Martin Racing driver Allan Simonsen, and at the specific request of his family, the team will continue to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in tribute to Allan." From Aston Martin's official website
Hey allesbesserwisser or whatever. Got a couple of questions. One, how is him making Dutch cheese better than participating in one of the most prestigious races better for his family? Yeah I thought that didn't make any sense either. And two, maybe just as the others have said they are paying their respects to a highly skilled driver, and I for one admire these guys. They have a passion for racing and both them and their families understand the risks of what's involved. Also, just FYI the Lemans or any racing will NOT stop just because we don't watch a clip on youtube. So do us all a huge favor, pull your head out of your ass, take a deep breath and live in reality. That'd be great. Thanks
Alles, I most respectfully point out that these drivers never had guns put to their heads. They all chose this sport of their own free wills. Racing is dangerous even in the best of circumstances. By the same token, we who follow the sport do so not to see men die, but to see men triumph over adversity and danger. Sure, there may be some who watch for the crashes. But not all of us do. Please, don't paint with a broad brush.
R.I.P from new york our thoughts and prayers go out to simonsens family very tragic.... prauers go out to other racers to stay safe and finish without furthefr tragedy
Really sad to see something like this happen 2 major driver deaths in the last 2 weeks (Jason Leffler, NASCAR, Allan Simonsen 24 Heures). My thoughts and prayers go out to both their families
They made the 908 Hybrid4 between the end of the ILMC and the WEC debut. They were testing it by canceled the projects due to very low sales. Also: the 908 was much faster than the R18. It won 5/7 races in 2011 and one of the two it didn't win was won by a Peugeot 908 HDi FAP.
2009 saw 36,000 fatalities on public roads in the US. Also in 2009, there were 22 fatalities on racetracks in the US. I don't know why you think racing is dangerous when, statistically, it is 1,636 times as dangerous to drive on the public roads.
And that very same No. 95 Aston Martin team wins its division at Le Mans 2014 with Kristian Poulsen, David Heinemeir-Hansson and Nicki Thiim.
