I agree. The seeds were always there, but I do think we conscientiously or unconsciously seek out partners who will help our dreams to flourish. I think a lot of people are upset because they did not give their marriage within ‘The Firm’ enough time to adjust. I was thinking she would need 3-5 years to get used to a new marriage, role, baby, country & in-laws before throwing in the towel. They were already one foot out the door.

BUT, the royal family own a lot of land and they actually give back around £140m back to government, and actually, it would cost the taxpayer around £2 more if we were without the royal family.

Meghan, not being a royal and being an American probably told him that he didn't need to put up with the royal restrictions since he would never be king. The thing that SHOCKED me about the interview that no one talked about was the fact that all four of them - Harry, Meghan, William and Kate - have been SIGNIFICANTLY involved in raising awareness around mental health issues in the last few years, yet Harry couldn't turn to William and Kate when Meghan was having mental health issues because "they" can't have them or show they are struggling? I feel kind of bad. I mean Harry didn't choose the spotlight he was just born into it and having to mourn your mom's death as a kid with millions watching you isn't easy. I understand his complaints and it's hard to really fully understand how privileged you really are. Being royal doesn't just mean being rich and living in a palace there is a lot of unwanted attention and pressure too. I don't agree with all of Harry's statements but I'm not going to bash him for anything either. I want to see both perspectives which I don't always manage to do, but why not try to understand him or the people that disagree instead of saying cruel things to them. I just hope that he can settle into his role and live happily.

He ruined relationship with his brother and sister-in-law, then his father, yelled at his aunt for predicting the future, ditched his best friend with whom he had been for years, then Princess Eugene who he had great relationship with, than more friends, then his family and then the entire nation. The RF was never worried about Harry stepping down since they knew he had no interest but he literally befriended most of whom he had recently loved.

We are way beyond the need for a monarchy. They hardly influence anything anymore and the things they do influence are not great.

Their main contribution to the UK and Commonwealth countries is tourism. Before Covid tourism was one of the most important industries. Still is. It boosts the economy hugely. In the case of the UK millions want to see anything royalty related. Tourism creates thousands of jobs, supports businesses, hotels, restaurants, car rentals, transport etc. Tourism improves the infrastructure of a country. Many people end up buying property in countries they visit. It benefits the Arts, and Sport and promotes cultural exchange between countries.
The British tax payers pay approx £5 per year towards the monarchy. Why resent them so much for that amount? They have their own wealth. I'm sure Parliament could get rid of them but many Commonwealth countries still want the Queen as Head of State. If they were so useless I'm sure they would vote to remove them.
I like the monarchy. I find their rituals comforting. They represent continuity in an increasingly chaotic world.

I've meet prince harry about 5 years ago at a nightclub in London and he was the funniest, kind and humble young man for being a prince, at least that's I thought, cause the image of the royal family for me it so serious and i thought they saw others below they shoulder and for my fortune I was so wrong with him. and one of the things he said to my friends an I was "I wish I was in your stocking" referring to how he would like to go out and do the things of a normal person and not carry so much weight on his shoulders. It was very cool for me to listening of what he said but at the same time I felt sorry. Anyways.. great guy and happy for they soon royal wedding.
So why make it more difficult for his brother, who equally struggled with responsibility.

Probably because his brother turned around and started pushing him out. All of the convenient leaks coming from Kensington Palace. William has a tight leash over the staff at Kensington and they are NEVER allowed to speak to the press without his approval. Ever noticed that with every single headline Meghan made, there was always a "my palace source told me?"
William is letting his staff leak private/classified into on Meghan and most likely, that's why he and Harry started falling out. And deciding that his brother is no longer trustworthy, Harry stopped relaying info to Will and the Kensington staff.

If you modernise it too much, you will modernise it out of existence. Our Royal Family do use Twitter and such social media outlets, but it is all very well-controlled and dignified. I agree with what you say that our Royal Family has survived many crises, including two world wars, when many other monarchies just folded. But in my opinion, this has been successfully achieved by adaptation rather than modernisation. There is a subtle difference between the two.

I am British and I found the interview very upsetting. In a year when so many people have lost everything - their savings, jobs, health and even their lives, when whole families were locked down in small apartments with no balcony, let alone a garden, they complained to Oprah that no one taught Meghan the National Anthem or how to cross her legs or how to curtsey. He lamented that his family cut him off financially but he walked away with about £30 million in trust funds - which all came from family as he didn't earn this amount. Seriously, people cannot feed their children and they complain from their 16-bathroom mansion. I was shocked tbh.

I am so proud of this young man, and I'm 100% sure that Diana is even prouder. I've dealt with severe depression, anxiety, and panic attacks most of my life, and I'm closing in on 60 now. The only relief I get from medication is for panic attacks. My brain doesn't react in any way to antidepressants, and I've been through 20 meds or combinations of meds with no change at all.
