From what he says about his childhood it sounds like he could have easily become a minuteman if they had been around to show him he could defend his parents stop raiders from pushing people around.
But people have an irrational hatred for Preston. I get that he sends you on a lot of missions, so do the railroad, BOS and institute. If you have three quests queued up he doesn't send you on another one.
I think he just liked that he could take what he wanted without havivg to grow or build it like the raiders did to his family and their things, why would you spend your life fighting to protect a farm and some people when a few luck raiders might jump you and kill you before you know whats going on? Then they own the food and any valuables in the place and only had to use a few bullets to get it then they do the same again
ya, i can appreciate that hard-case attitude, sooner or later you get sick & tired of getting screwed over & watching everybody whimper. probably why a lot of people end up in gangs in real life. fortunately i don't live in a world were i live as fodder for the criminal element. but in fallout i can respect that outlook.
Maybe your character decided that telling a raider you're from a vault? I mean he'd just be like 'what fucking seriously? I'm standing up for a shitty snot nosed vault fucker?! " and he'd turn hostile?
Nah Gage is the one who truly respected you as an Overboss. If you took down Colter and did retake the park I think Gage won't care about whether you were a soft-boned Vault dweller or not
Only raider I killed in Nuka-World I felt bad about killing. I wish you could convince him there's a better way, but in the end, he might be a smart and practical raider, but he's still a raider.
i was so conflicted in this dlc i like gage quite a bit and his story is heartbreaking if you go the good route meaning slaughter raiders. betrayed twice poor guy
I romanced him with my sarcastic asshole male character and the result was legitimately one of the most adorable relationship I've ever seen in a game.... haha .. "Damn Boss"
I wish there was an option to keep him as a companion. He isn't an evil man and isn't as black-and-white in his views as Preston is. I understand why Preston leaves, but Gage? Ugh. Such a better character.
I think he's pretty evil based on his actions, its just he's better written than most fallout evil characters who are cartoonishly sadistic with zero nuance.
I loved Gage, I thought he was a really complex character and a refreshingly intelligent "bad guy" from a character more like one of the gang leaders...one sided and stereotypical. But then again I am playing my Warlord "raider king" build.....
Amornar Exactly. He was a very refreshing break from the typical raiders who dont think much beyond getting drunk, high or both and pillaging the nearest settlement to get more caps so they can do it all again. Hw actually envisioned something more for himself and the raiders of Nuka World.
Me: Aw this dude isn't so bad Gage: After this, we are going to take over the settlements that you have defended and worked on so much Me: *Pulls out Gauss Rifle*
This is why I didn’t build up any settlement except Sanctuary when I decided to the overboss/evil Nuka World ending. Don’t know these people, haven’t done quests for them or built beds for them or lovingly crafted 20 turrets to defend them. So it doesn’t bother me as much to take their stuff
For me as this is the last dlc I feel like the raider ending makes sense. Your character experiences so much through the game that by the time they get the nuka world radio signal they want to take a from everything and the nostalgia of their past life calls to them, only to be trapped by raiders breaking what humanity you have left. Gage in my opinion guides you through becoming a raider but not losing your humanity.
"Most people are pushovers, they give everything they have to raiders just to live another day" Gage. "I better put on my newsman fedora. A raider camp was overrun by a single man. Eyewitness reports say that he was wearing Enclave power armor and armed with a chaingun."
Listen to my plan: I'm going to get max affinity with Gage and then betray him later by doing Open Season, because I just can't be the bad guy. Damn me.
I agree. I play this game the way I'd play it in real life. I play the "Good Guy". Trying to rebuild the Commonwealth. I think the BoS are a**es in this game, so I chose the Minutemen. Maybe the MM need to re-organize, but ultimately they want good for the Commonwealth. After building a bunch of settlements, I don't want to kill everyone with these Raider gangs. So I will eventually kill all the leaders, after I get as many perks as I can. BUT... I'm getting the feeling that we can't unlock ALL Nuka World settlement items UNLESS we go bad. Is this true? Can anyone confirm this? If so, that kinda bites. Rewards bad behavior.
+MrFox1701 no actually, you open Nuka world settlement items when you visit the separate sections of the park. For example, if you didn't visit Safari Adventure yet, then the settlement items of Safari Adventure will be locked until you discover it. I'm not sure though about Raider stuff. I'm the general of the Minutemen too, and I did spend a lot of time with settlements like the Castle and Sanctuary, so I'm not going to side with the raiders. Maybe in another play through I will. But yeah, I play like you: play as if it were real life.
I love Gage, he's my favorite companion, so far. After I conquerd all the parks, I raid all the settlements in the Commonwealth. But I didn't kill the settlers (exept the two by Greentop Nursery; I have more than enough charisma to persuade them to leave. especially named settlers, and I don't raid Abernathy farm I like them.) Sure Preston hates me now, but why should I care? xD In my next playthrough I avoid the Minutemen as long as possible, and take all the settlements with the Raiders first.
exactly. I started a new play through just for Nuka World, and this time I completely stayed away from Concord, it's way better not dealing with the Minuteman while you get everything ready. I'll basically be an actual General, when finding them later.
I have played Nuka World with my main character first. (I have so many save games so it doesn't matter) But yeah, I want to see, what happens if I stay away from Concord (and any other faction) First Raider, than all the others xD btw, can I kill all four factions? I mean, if I play with RR, I have to kill BoS and Institute. What is if I attack the Minutemenm and I'm not their general? And last but not least, when main story is finished I could wipe out the Railroad, right? (I hope, I can do this oô)
The playthrough I'm doing now, I'm probably going to go ahead and do everything in Concord except report in to Preston after taking out the big critter. That Perception bobblehead is just too tempting a prize, especially in the early game. But, as long as you don't complete his quest, him and the others just hang out in the museum the whole game--no Minutemen.
Gage is one of the most amusing, genuinely post-apocalyptic characters, and a bad-ass. Yep, he's a good companion. I just wish they'd given him more lines, his repertoire is shamefully limited compared to the companions of the regular game. Lazy bastards...
This is literally the first time in any video game where I felt bad for betraying the bad guys. Man, Preston was PISSED when he learned I started converting my settlements to the raiders. I betrayed a group to save the Minutemen and vice versa while doing so. He vowed to never be my friend though he will still work with me. I must admit, I felt bad for that but just as bad when I turned and had to betray the raiders. Here's something neat, when you free the slaves, you get max with Valentine and get a chance to work his personal Eddie Winters quest. When I went to Eddie Winters' "suite", I opened the door, realized Nick wasn't with me, turned and walked away after he noticed me "What the---?! Don't you fucking think you can turn and walk away!" then he opened fire while coming after me, Nick arrived just around the corner as soon as Eddie started to fire at me and shot him dead with no dialogue swap with him. Nick then continued the story by walking outside and it was quite the exhilarating change to what I'm used to seeing. Some people for whatever reason don't like Nick, I absolutely love working with him and glad that they dedicated a DLC for him.
I always bought the settlement from people never killed I always wore a mask if I had to fight the minutemen and always missed them I did for my role play I rp as a general who might kill a few civilians if it saves a lot more and I did this for my rp to see inside the head of a raider to help the minutemen and yet Preston he still hated me
To me it sounds like there should have been an option to tell Gage about the Minutemen and try to convert him to their side. The first thing I thought of when he revealed his backstory was that he could have really benefited from the Minutemen.
@@Veeooom raiders are human trash making life miserable for everyone. The Minutemen do their best to help everyone. You probably prefer the Stupid Evil approach to Fallout games.
Felt bad for putting Gage down, but despite having a brain in that head of his, he'd still shoot anyone for fun like the raider he is. Plus nobody shoots my friends, but me!
Gage is rotting in an umarked grave somewhere near Fizz top Grill. Took over just enough outposts (humanly I might add) to get Power Play to happen so I can get Pack Alpha and Ace Operator and then proceeded to kill all the gangs and reclaim my settlements. Didn't stop Preston from hating me but at least he doesn't send me off on 2-3 defend settlement missions every time I go near him.
Humanly...How is driving people out of their homes and into the wasteland in anyway humane? All that means is that they most likely died of hunger\dehydration , exposure ,or where killed by raiders\ animals obots. I am not trying to give you a hard time. Just saying the raider path is in no way humane.
termsofresistance I have every single settlement in the game built up(12 Water minimum 8+ beds, 30+ Food 80+ Defenses), and every settlement I took over had 2-4 inhabitants all of which could have easily walked the like 200 feet to the next closest settlement. Would killing them have been more humane? I mean I'm just saying this wasn't a new save game or anything, this was a save were I have 300+ hours played and have provisioners linking every settlement in the game, hell even the ending route I choose both the Brotherhood and Railroad are still alive. Most of the settlements are not even a 2 minute jog from one another. Way I see it 2 settlers got kicked off there land, walked like 150 meters to the next nearest settlement which has 4 people inhabiting it and like 14 beds and more than ample food and water and they just move there end of story.
I think my main problem with Gage and his idea of having the 3 raider gangs take over the commonwealth is that it is not really all that forward-thinking. What happens when you die? Your the strongman leader who basically is keeping the 3 gangs from going to war over resources. Admittedly, Gage will also probably have died by that point but there will be no long lasting legacy to leave behind you. At least with the Minutemen you are restoring a semblance of a unified territory instead of playing guard dog on raiders to keep them distracted and preventing them from attacking each other.
Robert du Bois I know this comments from a year ago but I just wanted to put my thoughts into this. Honestly I think gage doesn’t care what happens to them after his death. I think he just doesn’t want them to turn on each other while he still has things to gain from his plan. Because keep in mind he is a still a raider, a smart one, but a raider nonetheless.
Simmons Gage is far more likable than Preston. After all, I can actually talk to Gage without getting another damn random settlement mission shoved into my pipboy.
Von Neely I hate the raider leaders though. If i am the over-boss than why are they sending me on stupid dirty work missions. If they wont do stuff for their own gang then why should i as their superior. It makes no sense.
Gage is an interesting character. He's a raider that doesn't like chems? However it seems like 95% of this games (stereotypical) raiders seem to do drugs and drink booze.
He despises hedonism from the sounds of it. Hates raiders who take everything too fast, caps, chems, booze. He despises the lack of long-term planning brought on by such a mindset. I use chems for combat tho... hell even when I'm addicted, I don't get their effects whilst addicted. I'm not going to smoke and inject gold into my veins for fun like those "Fuckin' raiders..." do.
Dimetropteryx I took one looks at the slaves in nuka world and was just like ‘meh’. Hell I even executed Harvey for leading me there. None of my fallout characters turn out good because I don’t feel compelled to cater every settlers need anyway. I think it’s because to me the raider way seems easier for ‘settlements’. Simply take 8 outpost and then ‘employ’ the others to supply those ones. Then the only things you really need to build are the transmitters and booze stands. Funnily enough I always join the brotherhood when I do raider play through. So I usually end up seeing a fight between an outpost and a vertibird sometimes.
You can be a raider in Fallout 1 & 2. You can join the Great Khans in Fallout 1 and the Slavers at one of the towns I forgot the name of in Fallout 2. I didn't get that far in fallout 1 and I killed all the slavers in fallout 2 for around 1k caps? From what I remember at least.
Am I the only one who loved Gage cause he loves all the sarcastic options ? Also one of the few companions who actively flirts with the MC after they are romanced.
I get why certain companions are tied to certain factions totally makes sense. but given a real world situation i bet if one worked hard enough (along with a thousand different factors) you could get Gage to turn to the good guys. He isnt as sick and evil as other raiders but he is a raider and raiders are evil.
That sucks so much. I really had plans to be neutral. Well, I guess I can just remind myself the General of the Minutemen would never betray innocents, and we have to help those in need and protect the Commonwealth. Still, I wish I could be gray in this matter.
Honestly, I think that if people like Porter Gage were more common in the world of Fallout then they would rule the world. Smart, calm, and absolutely cutthroat. Nobody could fuck with them. With that said, I'm glad that they're not. A world of raider kings, no matter how well organized, is a world of tyranny.
It's a world of strength! Of power! Storm the gates, take what you want! As opposed to a world of cowboy hats lining up artillery strikes that land 60s after you throw a flare, and when you return as the General of the Minutemen, full outfit, they tell me "Hope you're not trouble...", ungrateful asshats. Gage would have a field day.
I used my main to beat Nuka World the first time and didn't even get to max affinity with Gage before she lashed out in disgust against The Disciples after listening to Dixie's holotapes. I had no idea at the time that it would turn all raider factions hostile including Gage at the time, but just rolled with it; it was quite the blood bath, raider bodies everywhere. Just for RPings sake the slavery was really a deal breaker as far as the other two factions were concerned anyway. I'm planning to start an all new character with a much greyer set of morals to play through the second time and actually pick up all the little quests.
Yeah, Dixie is a messed up piece of work, I mean they all are. All I want to know how the Disciples can live in the lair inside Fiztop, with all those dead bodies and whatnot, that place must stink to high heaven. xP
I've been playing a ton of Fallout 4 after getting the GOTY edition, and I had a thought. Technically there is kind of a way to rehabilitate him in a round about way. Porter Gage has a strong mind set of the strong take what they want and the weak provide for them, he also keeps in mind the big picture so he is open to new ideas if they benefit him. What if Porter Gage and some of the other raiders were converted into Privateers with you as their leader. They would have an agreement between themselves and your settlements, protection for resources. The now turned Privateers wouldn't raid any peacefull settlements anymore, but there would still be plenty of raider hideouts in the commonwealth. As part of being a Privateer their main job is to hunt down and kill/chase out any raiders that could threaten their charges in exchange they are provided for by the settlers and they can keep the loot they get off the raiders. For Porter Gage this would be a great long time investment, it would reduce inherent risk of danger and provide a steady flow of supplies and payment.
So i guess that Gage here took lessens under benny. if you're gonna kill someone, you look them in the eye. he's making you look him in the eye when you go on your rampage, so you ain't a fink. ya dig?
Sure, he's wiser and thinks a little harder about the world than most of his buddies do, but at the end of the day he's still a raider and would still gladly loot, pillage, and murder. I'm working my way through Nuka World right now, and by the time I'm ready to start Open Season and bring the full wrath of the Institute down on these raiders, he's the one I'm starting with.
I pick the good ending and killed all the raiders before talking to him. Then i've been to the appartement and he was waiting and he was available as a companion so i used him to discover the park. I achived max affinity with him and let him in nuka world. That way he never turned on me ...
At this point in my game, I only have two rules when it comes to raiders. I don't take prisoners. I don't leave survivors. I really REALLY hate raiders.
Gage is far worse than all of the other raiders. He is smart enough to do something good with his life. As well as knowing what he is doing is wrong. He is intentionally choosing to take an evil path in life. It is to bad that he can't be redeemed.
Why can't I free the slaves? I have enough scrap to build a robot army, enough caps to hire every gunner in this side of the Commonwealth, and loyal underlings who would follow me into death. The slaves aren't even necessary anymore.
you know it's kind of funny that Porter Gage has that eyepatch because I remember taking that off and he had both eyes which is kind of weird but funny.
It's possible to leave him alive if you manage to not agro him while you're killing all the raiders and finish "Open Season." However you can't take him along as a companion anymore. Still, he's still alive at least.
I had the same experience with him that you did my first few times, but after I got all the trophies I decided to go back and redo everything without having preset goals on my mind. for some reason on that pay Gage just stayed up in fizztop, so I figured as soon as I went up he would fight. nope, he stayed help. so far my favorite bug.. hoping it lasts!
Shame you didn't comment on the romance with Gage like you did with some of the other followers :D I would've liked to hear your thoughts on that side of his personality.
I don’t remember all the details but back in 2016 during my first playthrough i went the minutemen route and I had gage throughput the Nuka world DLC maxes affinity and conquered the other parks. Now for a little head canon explanation. In my first game I did all the DLCs and was steadily building various types of automotrons for my settlements and since I got the best ending of all factions except the institute being alive the BOS was still active in my game so in my head canon tensions between the minutemen and the BOS were rising due to the increase use of technology. Seeing the coming war my character made a shady move. I took gage and outfitted him with BOS power armor and a mini gun while I put on my own suit and graves a flamer and attacked the slog killing as many settlers as possible and framing the BOS in order to get a justification to go to war I sent porter away and went to work. I took a vertibird to the pridwin, killed Arthur Maxson and escaped and led a battle in Boston air port between my settler forces and the BOS... you can guess who won that engagement. Then I went to the castle, bombed the pridwin killing all those poor poor squires and won the battle cause of course you do. And when all was said and done I still destroyed Nuka world and betrayed and killed gage with a mini nuke TLDR, in my game my lawful evil character used gage to his own ends to get a war with the BOS, then killed him and the rest of the raiders to erase any evidence of his crimes.
There's a mod on the PS4 that gives the ability for Porter Gage to stay friendly with you even after Open Season. I plan to try it and see how that works.
I seriously love him. One of the Best companions in all the console games besides dogmeat and hancock! No one is black and white I really like this about this guy. Smart tough bad good selfish but knows his place and what's best for others etc etc My play through is a complex one because thats life. Ive got a multiple companion mod and I'm running with gage dogmeat and Hancock. I'm a overboss, general of the minute men, child of atom, knight of the brotherhood, alley cat etc. I sided with the opperators and pack. Split the common wealth between myself as an over boss and the minute men. I bought all the settlers off their land. Ive played this game as close to my own real life decisions as possible. Nothing is black and white and theirs no reason why different fractions can't coexist. I am however ready to take over the BoS to halt it from being so extremist and I look forward to ending the institute. After those two goals are accomplished I am going to be extremely satisfied with the world I shaped for my little team of survivors. This is by far one of the best games ive experienced just based on all of these decisions I was able to make.
"when the raiders came through, everyone rolled over" He says in a game where a single stray shot can send a settlement of two guys with nothing but pipe pistols and plain clothes in the middle of a field wedged between a radioactive bloodbug nest and a huge supermutant camp into a rage fueled shootout with a heavily armed person in power armor and their sentrybot companion. Everyone on the commonwealth is an aggressive little rage machine when when cornered , unless scripted otherwise by the all-powerful loregods. i think gage was just being angsty and in his later years thought he could explain it away in the form of "not wanting to take anyone's crap anymore" or whatever
And here I was hoping you could arrange a a team up between the raiders and the Minutemen. The Raiders become basically a Black Ops branch of the Minutemen, doing the dirty ugly tasks they can't or don't want to be associated with, in exchange for caps and drugs and the like.
And the pack are just there for a good fight. Honestly, it could've worked out. Granted, Preston would quite rightly be PISSED, but better to have them and not need them than vice versa.
That ruins what the Minutemen stand for though. Honestly it’d be better for the minutemen to take Nuka World and turn it into something that rivals Diamond City.
It should've been his final personal quest. You fail, he stays a Raider. You succeed, you might convince him to be more than a Raider or live in Diamond City.
to be fair, they did improve on that trend a heck of a lot with 4's main questline. I'm impressed by just how well they managed to make you feel like YOu're Hitler NO Matter What.
@@funnyvalentinedidnothingwrong even with the minutemen, you still nuke the institute, loosing out on so much technology that surpassed even what *pre war* America had
great character. sad thing is he was betrayed by his boss when he was young and now even closer to his boss, you learn all you do then betray and kill him.
I still like McCready more... at first I killed Gage and the others, on another gameplay I teamed up with him. I'm not sure which is better because I don't exactly know if the prizes in the nuka-cade get worse if you kill everybody because some prizes are not that bad
Prizes in the Nuka-Cade are completely unaffected by whether or not you side with the raiders (and in fact you can get them all without doing any quests whatsoever, in theory.)
Romance in general is fucking waste of time and effort. Especially this human trash Porter Gage. He's not even handsome nor charming, can't really understand what Bethesda was thinking with this thing.
It may be mods I'm using, but in my game I've dismissed Porter at Egret Tours Marina and he stayed there, so... Mods I've used (that could've changed that) are *Everyone's Best Friend* and *Companion bugfixes*.
I love Gage! How can you kill him? 😭 He and Hancock are my favorite characters in the game (followed closely by Nick). Sure he's not what most people would consider to be one of the "good guys", but he's nothing but kind and loyal to the SS from the get-go, and his sweet side shows even more when you romance him. Taking over Nuka World and the Commonwealth with him and the gangs is probably the most fun I've ever had playing the game, tbh. (Maybe I'm just evil deep down, lol.) Truth be told though, I did choose the "good" ending to Nuka World in my first playthrough, not knowing that it would automatically turn him into an enemy. Fortunately for me, he glitched after I killed all the other raiders and never turned hostile. I couldn't talk to him anymore, though. He just hung out in Fizztop Grille for the rest of the game, but I was fine with that. 😂
For those of you wondering, there's a mod out there where you skip the whole 'raiding your own settlements' and keep them. It skips that part, gives you the benefits and it actually makes sense? You get to keep preston, you get to keep the raiders happy - barring the one that messes up. You get the both of two worlds.
As a general of the minutemen I feel like I’m evil even when rescuing people from raiders I realize that those raiders are doing what to do to get by even when crushing nisha under my boot I felt like I went to there level I would expect if my character was real he would have extreme guilt and ptsd from what he has done in the name of “Good”
It's technically possible... if you intend on doing "Open Season" dismiss him and be really careful not to agro him until you're done with the quest. That way he'll still be alive, and non-agro to you, but you can't get him to join as a companion anymore. That's the best you can hope for without a mod.
I'm glad I watched this now. I romanced Gage, and knowing he'll turn hostile if I kill the faction bosses makes me have to reevaluate what I'm going to do. Gage is a very interesting character- I get the feeling he's very much what MacCready would have turned into had the Sole Survivor not happened along when they did. Smart, competent, loyal, desperate for someone he can truly trust (or love, honest he's quite sexy in his own way), but twisted by horrific circumstances and hard choices into the most dangerous of Raiders. Dangit. I may never finish Nuka-World if I have to kill him.
Woman player's thoughts (mine at least) watching Oxhorn's video: "At the end of the day, he's still a filthy Raider" - Yeah, I dunno, he's also rather hot, I think I'm gonna keep him. He's smart and strategic, and definitely not an evil, drug-fueled pervert, so he's pretty likeable. Please, spare me your morality lecturing... "His armor is pretty sweet [...] give it to Cait; it looks really good on Cait" - Why the HELL should I give it to Cait? It looks rather good on him! Cait is an annoying companion who's constantly telling me not to look at her ass (believe me, Cait, I wasn't looking...) Who are these videos for? Is this a morality school for boys?
Aura Zero Chill, pretty sure he meant it suits Cait just cause she's the other... Er... Bad character? Or you know, violent. I don't really know why Oxhorn stresses so much on Minuteman ideals in his videos, if I had to guess its because he likes to dive deep into the world and how its infected the inhabitants and morals of the inhabitants in fallout. I'm also not sure why you put emphasis on it being a morality lesson for boys, I don't really think saying raiders are bad is exactly groundbreaking and I think you're getting a tad too much worked up over genders, especially considering you where going on about how hot Gage is it's a bit hypocritical to act as if it's bad for Ox to say Cait looks good in something even if he did mean she looks hot in it or whatever.
Nope. This is a morality lesson for anyone who likes the idea of becoming a Raider Overboss. Or anyone who joins the Brotherhood. Or the Institute. Or [insert non-Minutemen faction here]
I’m going a BOS/raider play through because they are quite similar and it’s kinda fun. There are some choices I never want to make but I follow my character and do it anyway
I had to kill the Pack. I loved the Disciples gear and especially their knife, holy crap! What bothers me the most is how heavy everyone's gear is. You don't have to have much on you and each piece of Disciple clothing is AT LEAST 20 pounds. The armor itself is 40+, Gage's is even heavier, though the points are wonderful, it just bothers me that you can't carry nearly as much as the average commonwealth gear and weaponry as you'd want.
Since my playthrough roleplay was a ''good player'', I easily raised Gage's affinity by doing lockpicking for every 2 hours (nearby Fiddler's Green estate), modified weapons and armor and even got in power armors from time to time. I did a couple of radiant quests for the Nuka World raiders (not collaring scavengers in Good Neighbour) and a few main quests with him (up to Home Sweet Home) to boost it up and he actually didn't seem to give a shit that I did tons of radiant quests for the Brotherhood of Steel, Railroad and the Institute though I avoided the Minutemen radiant quests at that time as this is one of the things he despises. Also I bought him over to murder the original settlers living in Covenant since they had no purpose anymore. After I got his perk, I killed him then stripped him off his armor and now my player character is wearing it as it's a pretty great ballistic armor
Ox:"I would like to know what you guys did with Porter Gage!" And I quote, my instant response,"Oh, pfft I'm gonna DO him." (if ya know what I mean😉😘😏) except I said DO a little differently. There's something wrong w/ me I swear.😂
I wish there was a way to convince Gage to leave the Raiders and join whatever faction you're aligned with. He really doesn't even seem to be that bad of a guy, just a bit misguided since being a Raider is basically all he knows. It would be really nice if, after spending some time with the Soul Survivor, Gage starts to have a change of heart and realizes the evils of being a Raider and enslaving innocent people. I would've loved to have kept Gage around and had him as one of my top soldiers in the Minutemen.
Anyone know, is it possible to maximize Gage's affinity out in the commonwealth? I play a good character, and want to wipe out pretty much everyone in Nuka World. Can I get his affinity up by going about the commonweath and pickpocketing stuff from gunners and such?
“What, you worried I’m gonna turn on you” says the leader of the Minute Men and with the open season quest open
Hmm hmm hmm should have seen his face when I kicked his head into the pond. It was like "what was I thinkin teaching this bastard my perk".
I usually screw minute man over and go on a murder spree of all my built up settlements after killing the power and then give it to the raiders

I'm petty dissapointed you couldn't tell him about the vault and pre-war when he asks you what's behind you.
Maybe your character decided that telling a raider you're from a vault? I mean he'd just be like 'what fucking seriously? I'm standing up for a shitty snot nosed vault fucker?! " and he'd turn hostile?
I think he would be like "yeah, and Im a deathclaw"
Nah Gage is the one who truly respected you as an Overboss. If you took down Colter and did retake the park I think Gage won't care about whether you were a soft-boned Vault dweller or not
@@laurene988 You could go farther and tell him you're from before the war. In a way, the Sole Survivor is like the Fallout version of Captain America.
@@laurene988 Really late but Colter comments on you wearing a vault suit, meaning the raiders would assume you’re a vault dweller.

High school drama, LMAO SO TRUE 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I had Gage wear a Pirate Hat, because I really like the Captains Hat from Far Harbor. We were two pirates storming the gates of Nuka World.
Robert Johnson Poetic and epic. Marvelous
I had old Longfellow with me to nuka world. Lol
Longfellow is the old, wise and disciplined navy captain. Gage is the younger, cunning and ruthless pirate captain
i have him dressed as the minutemen general, coat and hat. It fits him so well that's even scary.
To bad you cant convince him to join you. He is a great character and really level headed, you would think he´d stick to the best options.
I wonder if someone might make a mod for this
Only raider I killed in Nuka-World I felt bad about killing. I wish you could convince him there's a better way, but in the end, he might be a smart and practical raider, but he's still a raider.
These were missed opportunities smh Bethesda
There's a PS4 mod that allows Gage to remain a companion after Open Season.
Sadly understandable he helped shape nuka workd
i was so conflicted in this dlc i like gage quite a bit and his story is heartbreaking if you go the good route meaning slaughter raiders. betrayed twice poor guy
He shouldnt open fire at me. If he would just surrender, i would most likely let him go.
Can you pacify him?
they aren't his friends
he just doesn't want to be in the middle of a crossfire between 3 gangs
Bradknightable I know right?!?!

Nah, he's pretty evil. Beyond his charisma, he has lost empathy for others and has no problem raiding and killing for fun.
@@then35t18 Nothings black and white. Most people, including Gage, are somewhere in the grey zone.
@@lordvoldemortsrighthanddea1740 False. That's just moral relativism lol.
Hes a prick lol hes fine keeping people as slaves
I think he's pretty evil based on his actions, its just he's better written than most fallout evil characters who are cartoonishly sadistic with zero nuance.
when I found out we had to kill Gage I loaded my save and took all the weapons away from them and then had a fist fight in the Nuka World pond
vernier moon that sounds hilarious

Thats how real men handle their buisness
Good on you
I'm thinking of doing something similar but instead spawning a bunch of synths to kill the now helpless raiders.
Amornar he’s so practical and mellow
Me: Aw this dude isn't so bad
Gage: After this, we are going to take over the settlements that you have defended and worked on so much
Me: *Pulls out Gauss Rifle*
"Say syke right now."
I went Butcher Pete on Gage instead
This is why I didn’t build up any settlement except Sanctuary when I decided to the overboss/evil Nuka World ending. Don’t know these people, haven’t done quests for them or built beds for them or lovingly crafted 20 turrets to defend them. So it doesn’t bother me as much to take their stuff
@@renenash2610 same I restarted a new game to do this
I did the jobs for em so I could build at settlements and basically installed a bunch of mutfruit bushes and water pumps so it was “worth” taking
Yeah, I think this is what Nuka World meant to be. But Bethesda's garbage writer made it into a tedious dungeon grind.
I kept my humanity and slaughtered them all, and besides Gage, didn't feel the least bit bad about it.
You mean Bethesda's great writing, please stop lying thank you.
Damn me.
Nice plan
thanks, good sir
+Thanos Thrylos nah not really he can play the game however he wants. Same with you.
I changed Gage's clothes and removed his eye patch, gave him hair. It was funny, he looked like a young Johnny Cash.
@Ruben Feneser underrated comment
"You are carrying too much and cannot run!"
No such thing as too much.
especially with the strong back perks, just bag what you want and high tail it to the settlement of your choice

I love Gage, he's my favorite companion, so far. After I conquerd all the parks, I raid all the settlements in the Commonwealth. But I didn't kill the settlers (exept the two by Greentop Nursery; I have more than enough charisma to persuade them to leave. especially named settlers, and I don't raid Abernathy farm I like them.) Sure Preston hates me now, but why should I care? xD
In my next playthrough I avoid the Minutemen as long as possible, and take all the settlements with the Raiders first.
exactly. I started a new play through just for Nuka World, and this time I completely stayed away from Concord, it's way better not dealing with the Minuteman while you get everything ready. I'll basically be an actual General, when finding them later.
I have played Nuka World with my main character first. (I have so many save games so it doesn't matter)
But yeah, I want to see, what happens if I stay away from Concord (and any other faction) First Raider, than all the others xD btw, can I kill all four factions? I mean, if I play with RR, I have to kill BoS and Institute. What is if I attack the Minutemenm and I'm not their general? And last but not least, when main story is finished I could wipe out the Railroad, right? (I hope, I can do this oô)
The playthrough I'm doing now, I'm probably going to go ahead and do everything in Concord except report in to Preston after taking out the big critter. That Perception bobblehead is just too tempting a prize, especially in the early game. But, as long as you don't complete his quest, him and the others just hang out in the museum the whole game--no Minutemen.
Yeah, I just bought out the settlements in order to get through. Gage is awesome
Gage is one of the most amusing, genuinely post-apocalyptic characters, and a bad-ass. Yep, he's a good companion. I just wish they'd given him more lines, his repertoire is shamefully limited compared to the companions of the regular game. Lazy bastards...
4:56 So... What Gage is saying is "The Game was rigged from the start."
New Vegas reference
8:00 I love it when Wastelanders don't understand Pre-War things
Dr Mobius You can get the Nick Valentine quest in base game
Dr Mobius I love Nick and rather enjoy the detective work element you can explore with him, especially when it leads to Far Harbor.
Cloroxcleansthesoul Thats one way. Doing his detective cases in the base game helps too
I always bought the settlement from people never killed I always wore a mask if I had to fight the minutemen and always missed them I did for my role play I rp as a general who might kill a few civilians if it saves a lot more and I did this for my rp to see inside the head of a raider to help the minutemen and yet Preston he still hated me
To me it sounds like there should have been an option to tell Gage about the Minutemen and try to convert him to their side. The first thing I thought of when he revealed his backstory was that he could have really benefited from the Minutemen.
Rikusgirl001 the minutemen are just trash

I did a railroad raider build. Doesn’t care for synths that much but wants the institute and every scientist to burn.
All that means is that they most likely died of hunger\dehydration , exposure ,or where killed by raiders\ animals
obots. I am not trying to give you a hard time. Just saying the raider path is in no way humane.
termsofresistance
I have every single settlement in the game built up(12 Water minimum 8+ beds, 30+ Food 80+ Defenses), and every settlement I took over had 2-4 inhabitants all of which could have easily walked the like 200 feet to the next closest settlement.
Exactly. Great point.
I guess what it really comes down to for me is I *already* control the commonwealth through the Minutemen. What do I need raiders for?
Robert du Bois And the Minutemen are gone at the game's start precisely because they turned on each other.
Yes, but I am now in charge and retraining will be necessary.

I know this comments from a year ago but I just wanted to put my thoughts into this. Honestly I think gage doesn’t care what happens to them after his death. I think he just doesn’t want them to turn on each other while he still has things to gain from his plan. Because keep in mind he is a still a raider, a smart one, but a raider nonetheless.
I'm sorry but to me he is just the raider version of Preston Garvey.
True, but every faction does that. I call it "Commander Shepard Syndrome" and it's a very annoying trend in gaming these days.
It is annoying indeed.
Simmons they even have the sama initial.
I took one look at the slaves in Nuka World and decided to kill every last raider.
Would have been great if you could have kept Gage after that.

I did the same with my minutemen character, and only my minutemen character
there is a mod
I need to buy this fucking DLC so I can finally be a raider for once in a Fallout game.
You're thinking of The Den in Fallout 2. That's where the slavers are.
Radioisotoke well you could help raiders in Fallout 3s Pit
Also in 3 you can be a slaver. NV you can be so evil not even the fiends would mess with.
Radioisotoke soooooooooo worth the money.
“Can I ask you something boss?”

Bethesda really dropped the ball on not having a rehab quest for Gage. I like his pseudophilosophical views.

I really wanted to see if you could convert him but whenever I did open season, he glitched and didn't say anything else
Porter Gage is a great character and one of my favs in fallout 4, and Nuka world is a very good DLC that got me to embrace the Raider live style.
I like Gage, he has a good head on his shoulders and he *isn't chatty* unlike most other companions
That sucks so much. I really had plans to be neutral. Well, I guess I can just remind myself the General of the Minutemen would never betray innocents, and we have to help those in need and protect the Commonwealth. Still, I wish I could be gray in this matter.
I take 1 settlement from the mintute and Preston hates me and turns on me
I just took as many as I needed to complete the quests and stopped there

you take unaligned settlements and it doesn't make Preston hate you. only if you kill minutemen.
If you want gray morality just play New Vegas. If you haven't already you'd love it trust me.
Flavored Colorz What did you expect?
I like Gage. He's such a likable guy which is strange since he's a raider. He also strongly reminds me of Kellogg.
Yeah, the Disciples are pretty ruthless, I pleased them the most just so I wouldn't end up being slowly killed.
IMO, this is like the blades/Paarthurnax battle arc. there is no in-between

So i guess that Gage here took lessens under benny. if you're gonna kill someone, you look them in the eye. he's making you look him in the eye when you go on your rampage, so you ain't a fink. ya dig?
did gage really say "I says to myself"
kylie caperton probably as a slang street Guy

Gage is far worse than all of the other raiders. He is smart enough to do something good with his life. As well as knowing what he is doing is wrong. He is intentionally choosing to take an evil path in life. It is to bad that he can't be redeemed.
yes but so is your character i you can choose to steal murder butcher and extort people for money
It’s kinda sad U never find out how gage lost his eye..

In my game after I kill all of the other raiders, porter gage doesn't attack me .He just wont interact anymore.
It's possible to leave him alive if you manage to not agro him while you're killing all the raiders and finish "Open Season." However you can't take him along as a companion anymore. Still, he's still alive at least.
When I first heard his name, I don't know why, but I pictured Porter as a ghoul. I was so disappointed that I didn't get to keep him ;-;

I took gage and outfitted him with BOS power armor and a mini gun while I put on my own suit and graves a flamer and attacked the slog killing as many settlers as possible and framing the BOS in order to get a justification to go to war
I sent porter away and went to work.
And when all was said and done I still destroyed Nuka world and betrayed and killed gage with a mini nuke
TLDR, in my game my lawful evil character used gage to his own ends to get a war with the BOS, then killed him and the rest of the raiders to erase any evidence of his crimes.
There's a mod on the PS4 that gives the ability for Porter Gage to stay friendly with you even after Open Season. I plan to try it and see how that works.
I seriously love him. One of the Best companions in all the console games besides dogmeat and hancock! No one is black and white I really like this about this guy. Smart tough bad good selfish but knows his place and what's best for others etc etc
My play through is a complex one because thats life.
Pity Cait didn't have any special unique dialogue for Nuka World. She and Porter Gage would get along so well with each other
His voice actor is awesome. I love his voice
I actually wish you could convince Porter Gage to change sides. Would have been fun as hell.
It should've been his final personal quest. You fail, he stays a Raider. You succeed, you might convince him to be more than a Raider or live in Diamond City.

what we learn from this: cait and porter gage are basicly the same person and would be best friends.
That's why you give his armor to Cait.
great character. sad thing is he was betrayed by his boss when he was young and now even closer to his boss, you learn all you do then betray and kill him.
I still like McCready more... at first I killed Gage and the others, on another gameplay I teamed up with him. I'm not sure which is better because I don't exactly know if the prizes in the nuka-cade get worse if you kill everybody because some prizes are not that bad
Yeah me too.. He's a sweetheart deep down...
macreedy is really good he gives me free random ammo when i talk with him
MacCready is great, he doesn't get pissed when I take chems and he has a chance to give fusion cores :)
Prizes in the Nuka-Cade are completely unaffected by whether or not you side with the raiders (and in fact you can get them all without doing any quests whatsoever, in theory.)
Not being able to send him anywhere else kind of makes sense even if it sucks, kind of wish that was the case for Old Longfellow
I honestly love Gage so much. I always romance him. He's perfect.
Max affinity without romance, then wreck him after I kill the other bosses!
Same
I wish you could find connor and it would be porter Gage's max affinity mission I would love to see what connor's reaction would be
I love Gage! (Maybe I'm just evil deep down, lol.)
Truth be told though, I did choose the "good" ending to Nuka World in my first playthrough, not knowing that it would automatically turn him into an enemy.
You get the both of two worlds.
i hate being good guy i was really happy that i can join raiders now
Psycho Punk666
bad guys for lyfe
As a general of the minutemen I feel like I’m evil even when rescuing people from raiders I realize that those raiders are doing what to do to get by even when crushing nisha under my boot I felt like I went to there level
I would expect if my character was real he would have extreme guilt and ptsd from what he has done in the name of “Good”
When I killed the raiders,Gage was just standing at Fizztop Grille, telling me to meet the leaders, even though they are dead.
A funny bug.
Is there any why to spare Gage? I want to the kill the raiders, but he's really likeable.
Slippery gaming maybe a mod?
Woman player's thoughts (mine at least) watching Oxhorn's video:
"At the end of the day, he's still a filthy Raider" - Yeah, I dunno, he's also rather hot, I think I'm gonna keep him.
Cait is an annoying companion who's constantly telling me not to look at her ass (believe me, Cait, I wasn't looking...)
Who are these videos for? Is this a morality school for boys?
Kylie Coyote he has some better dialogue then some of the vanilla companions lol
You have an odd taste in men. But hey, every girl likes a bad boy.
Or [insert non-Minutemen faction here]
Fanfiction Writer that's exactly how Bethesda and the creators of Fallout intended it to be.
Ox:"I would like to know what you guys did with Porter Gage!"
And I quote, my instant response,"Oh, pfft I'm gonna DO him." (if ya know what I mean😉😘😏) except I said DO a little differently.
I hit the flirt button on my guy character, I've called the triangle button "the gay button" ever since 😂
Anyone know, is it possible to maximize Gage's affinity out in the commonwealth? I play a good character, and want to wipe out pretty much everyone in Nuka World. Can I get his affinity up by going about the commonweath and pickpocketing stuff from gunners and such?
Satoshi Matrix yeah
My name is Gage so all my favourite youtubers are saying my name. I feel famous now!
Oh. You killed me. Not sure how to feel about that.
+Gage Nott I killed you and theese raiders.
