I have that Longines in blue - a beautiful, very accurate, but slightly difficult-to-read watch. After the very useful chronograph and energy-reserve complications I list the moon phase as my third fav. It reminds me of fairy tale magic realism. I would LOVE to see what NOMOS would do with the moon phase.

Teddy, getting back into luxury watches after an 18 year hiatus. I happened to come across your videos. Being from Elyria myself (a western burb of Cleveland) it was very enlightening to hear of the origin of Ball watches and it's respective history. I never knew about the train wreck where one of the locomotives was headed out of Elyria. Sad day for sure, but Ball to the rescue!

I own the Ball Trainmaster Moonphase with the silver dial on a brown strap. The watch is stunning and the lume is amazing. The only downside is it's 40mm I wish it was 42 or 43mm but I made an exception as I really like it.

Well timed video with the super moon last night. A few thoughts...
    1) Surprised you didn't bring up the Zeppelin Hindenburg. I have the silver dial/silver case. Oddly enough, my favorite part of the watch is the day of the week complication. Yes its quartz but still a beautiful moonphase dress watch for a great price.
    2) You're the 2nd reviewer who's called the moonphase complication "useless." I might use the term lesser used as this is a wonderful feature for those that follow the night sky or otherwise enjoy knowing what phase the moon is in on any given day. Certainly not useless.
    3) Really good selection. The Glycene looks amazing for the price.
    4) Finally, anyone that buys one of these better have a watch winder or a very small rotation. Setting the moonphase every time you wear it would be a pain.
    Enjoyed the video. Thanks.

For a lot of people, moonphase isn't a useless complication. Especially for tide watchers, anyone that studies the Jewish calendar, farmers, biodynamic wine producers, astronomers (of course), and people who love astrology (whether or not you agree that astrology has any merit). But mostly, I think it connects us with the cycles of time in a dynamic and beautiful way, puts us in conversation with the rhythm of the seasons. Just as a mechanical versus a quartz watch is "useless", simple utility never makes something good.

I happen to really like watches with astronomy themes and a moonphase is the most common one. Most seem to make it pretty minimal on the dial though. I like the Ball. Lum on the moon disk is a really neat idea and makes it stand out. The Christopher Ward also puts it front and center and would be the moonphase I'd choose of the ones presented here (yeah could they lose the brand name on the face). The Moonphase watch I really want though is the Arnold and Son Perpetual Moon in black dial. It is over twice the price of the most expensive watch here. If you look it up, you'll realize why when you see the movement side.

You certainly provided some great options. I'm leaning towards just the moon phase complication with any of the other calendar features; but who knows. Certainly that Ball watch is a great option with how the moon lights up. Ah, so many to consider. This is going to take some real thought and trying on watches to pick one.
